for those unaware today india experienced one of its biggest protests in half a decade. there were protests all over the nation for various causes but the major one was in delhi. all we asked for was the resignation of the education minister because he's failed the students of this nation time & time again. but we were met with brutality, the police had barricaded the main site of protest (jantar mantar). metro stations were shutdown, the public was restrained from reaching the protest site and all the adjoining areas had signal jammers to make sure the crowd had no access to constant updates. they had us blocked from all the sides. they were lathi (baton) charging students from one side & releasing tear gas from the other. you couldn't walk 100 m on streets without having a tear gas shell thrown at you. there were many students, women & kids bleeding — some from their head. some couldn't walk anymore. the police had removed their nameplates & acted with full impunity to resort to unprecedented levels of violence. they were pelting stones at us, beating up people for no reason, forcefully detaining them and attacking us constantly with tear gas & rubber bullets. they wouldn't let you exit either. the crowd was peaceful & looking out for each other yet they were met with violence. i made a friend who was all alone & she asked to join me & my friend because a policeman wouldn't leave her alone. he constantly prodded her for personal info, invited her back to the jeep saying they have food there, wouldn't stop following her around. you couldn't call or ask anyone for help, we were left to fend for ourselves & be on a constant lookout if you did not want to be beaten up to death by police. all for what? asking a resignation? shame on this country.
Youth-led movement calls on education minister to quit in one of India’s largest anti-government rallies in years
More than 10,000 protesters braved tear gas and baton charges in their largest challenge yet to PM Modi's government.
For context, india has been under a fascist regime since 2014. The government has been exceedingly hostile to all minorities, but specially muslims. They have also tried their level best to topple public education in India. This started with the NEP, or the National Education Policy, which is literally the worst piece of legislation on education I've seen in my life, and they have continued making life miserable for students through extensive censorship, violently pushing down protests and somehow making the already terrible bureaucracy worse. As a response to the lastest of these mishaps, activist sonam wangchuk went on an indefinite hunger strike until the government took accountability for its incompetence. After days of silence, on the 21st day of his protest, Wangchuk was forcibly removed from the protest site and nonconsensually detained in a hospital. This protest was people peacefully asking for the right to protest. This was the result.
This has been a long time coming. To all indians. Vote, protest, foster this dissent. Don't give in to the apathy.

“rd fights its way out of the egg. The egg is the world. Who would be born must first destroy a world.” - Demian, Herman Hesse
I didn’t expect the main benefit long term to reading Hesse would be weeb-related, but it turns out that the Japanese really liked Demian. To be fair, it is the rare European Good Literature that (positively!) has a Japanese character in it, so maybe that’s part of the appeal?
Dance of the Rose Brides 🥀
I’ve already seen my fair share of jokes about this, but I genuinely cannot think of anything which would make a middle school class harder to control than a beloved teacher seen being brought into a creepy black car and just falling off of the face of the Earth for months.
Stratt will not be able to be within twenty miles of that school ever again, lest she get recognized by someone, and I headcanon that the kids gave her the name ‘Carmen Santiago’ while trying to figure out what the heck happened.
The rise of overly dark Magical Girl shows, which contain suffering for no other purpose than to display said suffering, largely stems from a complete misunderstanding of what Madoka was, and what made it great.
Madoka spends two and a half episodes setting up a happy, cheerful, Magical Girl show, and then spends eight and a half episodes rejecting that premise, showing that hope only leads to despair, that a wish will lead to a curse, that things cannot fundamentally improve, and that trying to make things better will only bring suffering upon yourself and others. This is what derivative "tragical girl" shows were about; the suffering of young women for its own sake, as if that was the point of Madoka, as if the suffering was the entire point.
The last episode, however, has Madoka herself rejecting the show's entire premise. She's told hope leads to despair, and exclaims "If someone says it's wrong to have hope, I will tell them they're wrong every single time.". She's told that the very foundation of the universe leads to suffering being inherent, constant, and that the only thing one can do is to endure said suffering as long as one can bear, before falling to despair and inflicting the suffering one has experienced unto others; she's told that any wish will become a curse, yet ends the show saying "All those Magical Girls who held onto their hopes and fought against witches, I don't want to see them cry—I want them to stay smiling until the end. If any rule or law stands in my way, I will destroy it. I will rewrite it. That is my wish, that is my prayer.""
Walpurgisnacht had been set up as the most terrible witch to ever exist up until that point, and the viewer had been led to believe they'd fight to the death against it, and inevitably lose—as a Magical Girl seemingly always does in the Madoka universe. Madoka does not fight her, Madoka shows compassion, simply stating "It's okay. It's okay now, you don't have to hate anyone anymore, you don't have to curse anyone anymore. I'll go back, before you took that form, and shoulder that burden for you". There was no fight, and Madoka simply took on her despair, as she took on everyone else's, allowing them to once again have hope.
That's why the ending of that silly meduka meguca copypasta does make me cry every time; we pray, never to forget, that being Meguca was suffering. It's not anymore, there are struggles, but there always are in life; the Magical Girls who held wishes in their hearts prevailed against the very concept of the show, with the ending showing that you can make the world a better place through love, compassion, and the power of a wish. The twist in Madoka Magica isn't episode 3, where the first explicit death is shown—it's in episode 12, in which it shows itself to have been a completely normal Magical Girl show all along.

"乾の剣" — Sword of "Ken"
A note from director Nakamura Kenji:
"He has a habit of having one shoulder exposed whenever the "Shape" is revealed. He is quite aloof and loquacious before the events unfold, but suddenly changes demeanour to a more serious/sharp one when the Mononoke appears.
"The sword features a vulture motif, possessing a great ability of foreseeing and seeing through things.
"His existence serves, honours and purifies human sentiments, and shouts '葬斬' ('souzan'; chinese character meaning 'funeral strike') when he slays the Mononoke."
july is going to feel like this
to be quite honest july has mostly felt like this but we keep moving forward with hope in our hearts and a fruity drink in our hands
I love seeing people dissecting how Eridians being ambush predators and humans being persistence hunters ends up affecting how Grace and Rocky interact and I think this goes for what they think is “cute” about the other.
Grace coos over Rocky “loafing” because to him that’s a sign of rest, trust, and vulnerability (even knowing full well that Eridians sleep on a pin cushion with everything spread out). Eridians probably take being low to the ground as a sign of aggression- like you’re trying to hide and get the better of them.
Rocky loves Grace’s bad dance moves because to Eridians, being splayed out and making yourself as big as possible is trust, rest, and vulnerability. He’s making himself well-seen. But if Rocky ever tries like- walking on two legs or shows his underside to Grace while walking Grace freaks out because on EARTH, making yourself big is the sign of aggression.
So everyone loves the thought that Grace didn’t add curse words to the translator, because he’s a teacher, and doesn’t like cursing. However, I’m going to argue that Grace WAS willing, but ROCKY told him not to.
Here’s my argument.
Grace has cursed before. He’s been bitchy and stubborn and willing to insult people, such as when he called that guy a staggering waste of carbon, and in the book itself! When he first saw Blip-A in the book, he said, “Holy shit!” He doesn’t curse as a general rule because of his work, but he’s not a teacher when he’s with Rocky. He’s just a guy, and I’m not seeing Ryland Grace censoring his best buddy.
However, as someone who has learned a second language and gone through several language classes, there is a general consensus that cursing in one’s mother tongue just sounds and feels better than cursing in a learned language. There’s more history and thus emotion tied to it. Now, Rocky doesn’t speak English—the words are being translated for him. However, he does still hear the words output from the computer.
Thus, I see a scenario where Rocky lets out a slew of curses, then hears that the words haven’t been translated and demands Grace puts them in. Grace just puts his hands up and starts entering words, supplying the best translation he can. They have to spend ages on it, because curses are layered in connotations and cultural faux-pas, and a lot of Rocky’s basically translate to various versions of ‘ass’ or ‘asshole’ because of how vulgar the eating process is.
Finally, after like half an hour working on this, Grace presses play.
“…Rocky change mind. Eridani sound better. Get rid of.”
“WHAT.”
if i were james ortiz i'd post a single tiktok saying "simon" in various intonations of the rocky voice and then turn off my phone for a week
So the thing is boobs really do be jiggling. If having breasts has taught me anything it is that the ladies frolic. I don't even have that large of boobs but every time I go down some stairs all I can think about is that stupid quote about boobing breastily down the stairs or whatever it is because God Damn.
But anime and video game boob jiggling is like. The most uncanny valley shit I've ever seen nine times out of ten. You would think people this horny about tits would have actually looked at some but I guess not.
What we really need is some pervert to compile the ultimate visual guide to boob bouncing physics that's just like 500 hours of meticulously organized videos of breasts of different size and shape and under different fabrics bouncing around from a wide variety of physical movements so horny game devs can finally get it right and I don't have to be creeped out by women who appear to have surgically implanted softballs in their chest under skin made of rubber bands.
This one was made by working backwards from the idea of a hostage note.
One of the many downsides of the Hail Mary being a suicide mission is that Armando is likely only equipped to keep astronauts alive for as long as they're useful to the mission.
Obviously this is going to be reflected in the amount of painkillers and general medicines he's been supplied with— enough for three astronauts to last several months to a few years max— but also… there's really no point in keeping any of those astronauts alive after they stop being useful to the mission.
Grace finds this out when he gets to a certain point in his starvation on the journey to Erid and, instead of offering medical advice, Armando announces that Doctor Grace is far too sick to continue being of use and so it’s recommended that his fellow crew members euthanise him to save on resources.
That is. Not a good day for shipboard morale.
