People with depression score higher on tests of realism. Intelligence is positively correlated with mental illness and suicide. What this indicates is that if the mind understands too much about reality, it wants to destroy itself. Human life is existential horror.

A Thought on Irrational Fear in the USA

The media has worked very hard to stir up fear across the nation and it has worked. People are terrified that Donald Trump won. People are afraid of being rounded up, arrested, tortured, deported or otherwise having their rights taken away, despite Trump having no interest in any of these actions.

I remind you all that the USA is a nation of laws. You have a constitution that ensures you all have rights that can not be taken away. The President is not an all-powerful Dictator who does as he wishes.

The only threat I see to people’s safety at the moment is the ‘I saw the other side doing this so it is okay for me to do it’ attitude. There is currently violence occurring on both sides. Trump supporters, Hillary supporters, Sanders supporters, third party supporters and people who support nobody are all receiving death threats, are all being assaulted and bashed.

Everyone needs to start reminding each other that, in countries like the USA, everyone has a right to hold a political view and attacking someone, or wishing death on someone, is not a valid response if someone holds a different view or your candidate loses the election. Show the media that they do not have the power to make you afraid.
