The Sector was indeed a change from the city for the most part, but long grass just made the hunter think of snakes. Twisted bunches of them. So she intended to cut her scout short, there was plenty else to see. That was until she thought she heard something eerily familiar.
Only a few tones, but that’s it it took. The last time she’d heard that was in a graveyard, a tiny music box had fallen from her coat as she was knocked down… Knocked down by the figure that was now rising from the grass. No time to even debate if she was hearing things.
She took a step backwards, a hand coming to rest on the handle of her pistol under her feathery cloak. It wasn’t the first time she’d seen someone she’d killed in a different plane of existence, but it still took a moment to sink in. Maybe this was like that specific Nightmare. She fought the incredible urge to look skyward and kept the silver mask fixed on him.
And despite the mask, he’d recognised her instantly. The scent of the moon
“That’s right, Father.”
She’d never forget that beast atop the bridge, nor his presence. If only she’d met him sooner.
“Do you remember why I killed you?”
Why was he killed? Oh how he wish he could pretend he didn’t know. Fractured though his memories were he was not stupid; he could piece together the truth. He didn’t want to admit it, but he knew. And so he replied with a half lie.
“Because it was the Hunt.” he spoke. He continued, a slight smile on his face as he repeated why, perhaps to make himself avoid the truth - that he gave in and became something monstrous.
“Aye. It was just... the Hunt.” he paused for a second, looking for the right words; “Hunters hunt, as a friend once said. In Yharnam that’s how things have always been.” He moved around the Hunter, sniffing into the air. she was rancid with the smell of iron and something else... something was just off with the blood coursing through her body.
“You’ve changed, smell like a regular of the mob. But a bit different too. Off. I wonder what you’ve done to become like that. ...Wonder what you’ve seen...”
