so this is kinda beautiful (how beautiful? I don't know.). not exactly what I would have expected from Florence + The Machine at this point, but I'm certainly intrigued about what the album will be like.

can we talk about how much I love Leisure Cruise? and how I just realized they'll be in Boston (middle east upstairs) in 9 days?
been listening to this almost literally all day. definitely need to go see the mountain goats when they come to Boston in a few weeks.
2 of monsters and men realizations
1. I have the icelandic version of "my head is an animal," not the u.s. version. several songs are different; this is bothering me a little.
2. "love love love" is a breakup song, whoa. I never actually listened to the lyrics and one night I think I fell asleep after listening to it on repeat while trying to finish a paper or something? anyway, my point here is that I never really listened to it and just assumed it was a happy song. it's not.
anywho, I'm excited for their concert next week. hopefully bri is too.
yep yep
just re-listened to the dirty projectors' new album to make sure that I wasn't dreaming its existence, but luckily it's excellent. "swing lo magellan," if you're curious.
a few unrelated thoughts for the blog I forgot I had
1. every couple of months, I re-discover how excellent an album "graceland" is. if I was forced to pick my favorite album of all time at gunpoint (clearly a common occurrence), it would probably be my pick.
2. the new tallest man on earth album was disappointing. too vaguely peppy and not the emotional raw-ness that I love from him. I mean, it's okay. just not what I'm looking for from tallest man on earth.
3. the new metric album, on the other hand, is fantastic. if anyone doesn't listen to metric yet, they really should. feel free to start with this album.
4. I really need to get tickets for m83 and of monsters and men. (yay portland).
Amanda Palmer Fundraises For Her First Studio Album Since 2008
Sorry I've been MIA for a bit, tumblr. but this should hold you over for a bit; I know I'm excited!
This band, Racoon, is a recent discovery of mine (and by recent, I mean really recent - like an hour ago). They're Dutch and pretty excellent. "Love you more" is apparently their best known song (I have no idea), but it's a gorgeous, lazy, happy song. Clearly, I need to listen to more of their stuff.
Because I can't post just one Magnetic Fields video, here's "I Don't Want to get Over You," one of my all-time favorites of theirs. Not an official video, but a kind of cute/weird animation. It works. Or you could just listen to the song.
Guess who's seeing the Magnetic Fields tonight?! I can't even describe how excited I am for this concert. This is one of my favorite songs off of their new album (though "69 love songs" will always be my favorite of their albums), and the video is actually super cool. Plus it makes me smile and be a little sad at the same time. (note: how I feel about the Magnetic Fields as a whole).
Okay, disclaimer: I indirectly know the guys in this band, The Modest Proposal. (they're from around where I grew up and friends of friends.) I looked them up on spotify on a whim the other day, and was pleasantly surprised to see their album, which I quite enjoy. I know this video (of a live outdoor concert) is pretty subpar, but they're a lot of fun to see perform, and they're super nice guys. Also this song gets stuck in my head easily.
Got this from someone on twitter; this is my favorite of their stuff. I apologize for the completely terrible video, but the song itself is kind of catchy.
Ben Howard's "Promise." Hauntingly beautiful, and the youtube description of it as a "night time song" is completely accurate. I love the idea of the driving footage in this video, though it does get a bit old after five minutes. Still a gorgeous song though.
As some people have heard me say too much the past couple days, I really adore Hey Ocean!, particularly this adorable song. It just makes me happy. So listen and be happy, please.
This is a video a certain someone suggested that I post awhile ago...sorry about the delay there. But it's fantastic. Just Colin Meloy (of The Decemberists, obvi) playing The Crane Wife 1, 2, and 3. My favorite part is when he asks for suggestions and, after hearing requests for Crane Wife, asks which one and people respond, "all of them!" So he complies. Gorgeously.
I know, I know - I'm super behind in posting (Tallest Man on Earth, summer playlist, Girls, tUnE-yArDs, etc.). But I just got through a hellish week and am now on spring break, so that deserves one of the happiest songs of all time - "You Make My Dreams Come True" by the classic Hall and Oates. Sure, I could have posted that scene of JGL from a certain movie, but this video (albeit terrible quality audio and video - sorry!) is so 80's and awesome.
You should post some steezy Tallest Man on Earth. That is all. No wait, love is all. See what I did there? <3
oh yeah, good call. I could honestly post, like, everything he's done and not feel bad about it. but I won't! I'll pick some faves and put them up later today.
