Not through any fault or choice of her own, but simply because her soulmate happened to be born with black eyes, dipping her world into swirls of gray without a proper eye color to break it up. But her world is plunged into color the moment she meets Brooke, and Brooke in turn gets to see something other than sky blue. And so they're steeped in color, until Brooke's status as a student studying abroad catches up to them. Months upon months of gray-out plague them, until they can finally reunite. Again, and again, and again.

Now, their parents are sending them to narrate in the same world as a sort of mandatory bonding trip in hopes of stopping their endless fighting.
