Was “STAB YOUR EYES!” a thing in the 90s? A Nicieza-ism?
I know Cable says it more than once.
Comic Book Page Technical Specifications
This is a post for comic book artists preparing their pages for their publisher or colourist. I’m aware that many pros still don’t know some of this stuff, often because the bigger publishers have production teams who will take the incorrectly sized or shaped pages and adjust them before passing on to colourists or for print. However, this a) is giving more work to people that you can easily do yourself and b) reduces the amount of control you have over how your work is printed. NOTES ON FABIAN NICIEZA’S X-FORCE
In August 2016, I was working as an editor at Comic Book Resources and kicking myself for not having put together something to celebrate the 25th anniversary of my favorite comic book, X-Force. So, while it wouldn’t hit at the 25th anniversary exactly, I decided to start working on a massive analysis about Fabian Nicieza’s run on X-Force. 25 years and a few months, that would be fine. But then things changed behind the scenes at CBR and I realized that the amount of work it would take to really write this thing would not be cost effective for me, suddenly. And then in April 2017, I left CBR. The piece, which I briefly considered turning into a legit book-length project (WHICH I STILL MIGHT DO, SO DON’T JACK THIS RESEARCH… I’m too trusting right here, oh well), was done.
I reread the first 43 issues of X-Force, took a crazy amount of notes about what I think it does superbly, and then dropped it.
So… here are all of those notes! I cleaned them up, just a little, and they are maybe too in-depth or specific. But. If you love X-Force and these characters, this annotated look at their relationships in those 43 issues may be interesting.
And maybe I’ll write the book someday?
