Steve didn’t hate a whole lot of things.
Truthfully, he was a pretty agreeable person in most situations. Stables needed cleaning? Fine. Thief needed to be chased through the streets? Fantastic. Grab the King something arbitrary when the servants were busy? Great.
Fancy events that brought people from different territories into the kingdom where he was expected to bow to every Lord or Lady, Duke and Duchess or any other form of nobility and make sure nothing went wrong? No, he fucking hated them. It was pompous and quite stressful. He would much rather be doing patrol or training squires or, hell, even cleaning out the stables. But having been promoted to the King’s Knight Captain meant he had to lead the other knights and guards to protect the King and Queen of Sygon in every situation…even an irresponsible, frivolous party.
He was lucky that his best friend, Bucky, was in the kingdom between missions. He trusted the spy in these kinds of situations not because of his stealth or charisma but because he was a noble before he was an assassin. That meant he was better at all of the schmoozing and getting information from noble pricks. If anyone could sniff out danger before it happened…it was Bucky.
The man looked good in his military suit with a high collar and plenty of metals decorating his chest. He had his hair swept back into a high bun with just a few curls draped down to frame his face, making his steely blue eyes even more intense. It was obvious the women were impressed as they fawned over him with their fans flapping and their eyelashes batting playfully.
Steve couldn’t help the amused smile that crossed his face, standing to the left of the King as he sat in his throne greeting guests. His armor was freshly polished by his squire and sparkled in the bright lights of the chandeliers of the throne room. Bucky had made absolutely sure that his hair was perfectly parted and coiffed and that his beard was groomed sharply.
Based on the way the noblewomen shot furtive glances out of the corner of their eyes at Steve, he could tell Bucky had done a damn fine job. Steve bowed when it was necessary but had his eyes concentrated on the crowd that mingled around, the musicians in the corner with their instruments and the various acrobats that were dancing in the spaces between the chandeliers from thick ribbons in the kingdom’s colors.
He knew Bucky and the few other spies of the kingdom were walking around keeping an eye out in their fancy clothing too. Steve could see the bright red head of hair of Natasha as she laughed at something a portly, baby faced nobleman had said. It was a bit much, he’d tell her later while they were relaxing over a drink.
Every now and then, an announcement would be made when some new royal or important person or couple arrived. The party would momentarily stop for their names to be said before the music would start back up and the party would continue. Steve was both bored and stressed all at the same time.
One of the other knights, Lang, walked up in his armor, bowing respectfully to the King and Queen before standing next to Steve. “Need a break?” he whispered, bowing at the royal couple that walked up. “I can take over while you get some air or a drink.”
Steve let out a small sigh of relief, placing a soft hand on the man’s pommel. “Thank you, Lang, I owe you one,” he smiled, leaning down to tell the King what was happening only to be waved off.
He walked down the stairs to the outskirts of the crowd so that he didn’t have to be stopped by interested women or nobles who were looking to mingle. His eyes skimmed the crowd, noting faces and remembering their titles, kingdoms and importance. Even though he knew it to be hopeless, his hand couldn’t help but press against the copper pendant that hung against his breastplate.
He slipped down a hallway, glancing around to make sure he was alone. His fingers gripped the pendant and brought it to his lips. “I wish you were here, sweet one. This party would be much more entertaining if you were,” he whispered into the stone. It glowed softly, letting him know the message had been sent. He smiled, kissing the stone gently before turning back to the opening to watch the party for a few moments.
There wasn’t a day that his heart didn’t ache for you. He had, originally, thought it to be a lingering side effect of the potion but he knew better. It had been nearly three months since he had last seen you and his mind still wandered to the night the two of you had spent together. The feel of your skin, the way your face looked when you were on the cusp of orgasm, and the sweet sound of your laughter when he said something amusing or sweet. All of it was still so fresh and there wasn’t a day that either he or you sent a message.
Sometimes those messages would be funny stories that had happened or, more often than not, they would be sweet or longing words. He could hear how much you missed him in the timbre of your voice and the sincerity of your words. It seemed you needed no potion to fall for the knight, which made the distance that much worse.
The music stopped and all activity in the party halted. Steve broke from his thoughts to step forward so he could see who had just arrived. “Introducing The Lorekeeper and Dragon Sorceress of the Elven Kingdom,” the man said even while Steve’s eyes couldn’t stop staring as you walked through the great doors.
You were wearing a long, flowing gown that covered your arms and went all the way down to your feet. It was a warm shade of blue made with white intricate designs. Around your midriff was a tight, dark blue, satin corset that made your shape that much more dramatic. You had your hair pulled away from your face so that everyone could see the sharp points of your ears, decorated with all manner of gems and metals. Across your forehead rested a ring of silver that dangled a triangle of overlapping silver metal scales.
Steve’s heart hammered in his chest and his stomach twisted in so many emotions all at once. He was drawn to you even now, as if you had some kind of magical pull that he couldn’t ignore. His feet took him further into the room that was still quiet even as you walked through the crowd. People moved to make a passage for you to the throne where the King sat looking like he had eaten something rancid.
It was the Queen who stood up with the brightest smile on her young face. She walked down to meet you halfway, which, while odd, made sense considering. Queen Mayven’s pretty face was bright when you offered your hands so that she could take them into her own. “Lorekeeper, you honor us with your presence. I did not expect you to come to our humble kingdom when I sent the invitation!” the Queen said for every person to hear seeing as the musicians hadn’t started back and the people around were curiously looking at you.
“Queen Mayven,” you said in that ethereal voice that made Steve’s desire rise to the surface. It was inappropriate to think of all the different ways he could make that regal voice change, especially considering the location, but he found that he couldn’t help himself. You took one side of your dress and gracefully curtseyed to show respect for the royal. “It is my pleasure to check on your health as well as visit your beautiful kingdom.”
The Queen waved her hand at the musicians, who started up a jaunty tune and it was like the spell had been broken because everyone went back to what they were doing. You followed the Queen up to the throne and Steve quickly headed back to where Lang was standing. To his credit, Lang saw him coming and made himself scarce with a quick nod. It seemed he didn’t want to be anywhere near the possible drama with a powerful spellcaster and the irritated King.
“Ah, Sir Steve,” the Queen smiled, sitting down in her chair at the right hand of the King. “Good timing.”
“Sir Steve, what an honor it is to see you again,” you said, offering a delicate hand that was decorated with rings and perfectly pointed nails painted to match the blue of your dress.
“Lorekeeper, it is a pleasure to see you again,” Steve said while taking your hand to feel the cold that naturally radiated from you. He bowed deeply to lay a kiss on your knuckles, enjoying the delicate tremble that surely only he could cause in your fingers. When he came back up, you were looking at him with a knowing look in your sharp eyes. He felt himself shiver at the mischief and longing in that gleam.
The moment ended when you pulled your hand away, leaving too much space for Steve’s liking. “I am pleased to see you in such good health, Your Majesty,” you said when you turned your attention back to the royal.
“All because of your potion, Lorekeeper,” King Rathias cut into the conversation, voice rough and obviously full of disdain. Your eyes cut over to him, expression never changing from the sweet smile, but there was a hardness to your gaze that made the room just a bit colder. “We are very fortunate that you decided to help us.”
“Fortunate that you sent your best knight to retrieve it,” you chuckled, the tone sweeter than it should have been. “His determination to keep his promises was the only thing that earned him the potion.”
The Mayven looked at her husband, confused. “Darling, didn’t you send the tome I suggested?”
Steve felt his haunches go up when a corner of your mouth quirked upwards and a dangerous glimmer lit up your sharp eyes. The King hesitated a bit too long, revealing more truth than his words ever could. It made the knight have to steel his face to keep from revealing his thoughts. He had known that you only took knowledge as payment…and yet sent Steve with gold.
The awkward, uncomfortable silence was broken by you. “No matter, I’m sure it was just a grand misunderstanding but your knight came through in the end,” you glanced at him with an expression of a fox who had just filled its belly with chickens from a pen. “You should be grateful to have such a devoted knight as Sir Steve.”
“We very much are,” the Queen said, voice trembling slightly. “He is now the Captain of the Royal Knights.”
Your eyebrows went up, obviously impressed, before you looked over. Steve could feel the red starting to form on his cheeks, which, while embarrassing, was apparently very appealing if your words were anything to go by. “Congratulations on your promotion, Sir Steve, it is well deserved.”
“Thank you, Madam,” Steve stammers out with a quick bow to hide the red of his face.
“Of course, well, perhaps I should do my duty and mingle amongst the nobles. Would you mind pointing me in the direction of the washroom first? It has been a rather long journey,” you say sweetly.
The Queen was the first to speak up, gesturing to Steve. “Please, allow Sir Steve to escort you!” she responded quickly.
Steve feels the weight of your look and again, his breath is taken away by the beauty of your features. “Of course,” Steve immediately said, stepping down the stairs to offer a gloved hand. “Allow me, Madam.”
You curtseyed to the couple before taking the strong hand. Your fingers looked so small compared to his and though your hand felt delicate, he knew better. You grabbed the side of your dress to reveal your blue, flat boots that had buttons up the side and walked down the stairs to Steve’s side.
People were watching but that didn’t stop you from placing your hand on the crook of the knight’s elbow. He guided you around the crowd and to the hallway that he had previously been in to send his message. The two of you walked further into the castle, headed for the washroom, but never made it that far when Steve quickly opened a door and pulled you with him.
The door was closed and you found yourself trapped between the sturdy wood and the broad knight. You didn’t look afraid, however, just amused. “Why didn’t you tell me you were coming?” Steve demanded, raking his eyes down your form to take it in up close.
“Truth be told,” you started, easily running your hands up the breastplate of his armor to fiddle with the pendant. Your eyes flicked up to connect with Steve’s in an almost tangible manner, it sent a thrill through the knight. “I wasn’t planning on it…until you sent me that message.”
Steve took in a deep breath, lips thinning out at her cheekiness. “You got ready in enough time to show up right after the message was sent?” he asked, skeptical.
Your hands run up until they can finally run across the sides of his beard. “I have a spell for any inconvenience…remember?” you said with that snarky tone. The feel of your fingers brushing his cheeks sent a thrill of pleasure through his body until he couldn’t hold back anymore.
He dove forward, kissing you like it had been forever. You wrapped your arms around his neck, pulling him in so that his armor brushed against the fabric of your dress. Your mouth opened immediately so that his tongue could remember the taste and feel of you. “I missed you so much, sweet one,” he huffed between kisses to your neck.
Your chest heaved as you hummed in appreciation of his attention. “I missed you too, Steve,” you whispered breathlessly, hands clinging to his metal shoulders. “More than you can possibly know.”
You yelped when you were forcefully turned and your front shoved against the door. “I think I can guess,” he whispered into your ear, nipping at the sharp point playfully. “I bet your pussy has been rather distracting lately without me to fill it.”
You moaned at his words, pressing your ass against his codpiece insistently. “No one else would do, Steve,” you say, voice strained with your front pressed against the door. Steve pulled your hips back and kicked your feet wider apart all the while with one hand still pressed to the space between your shoulders. “I couldn’t even try to find relief with anyone else.”
He hums in agreement, flipping your skirt up and away from your ass. “So I did properly ruin you for anyone but me,” he smirks, running his hand across the soft material of your undergarments until he got to the band. He ripped them down until they fell to the bottoms of your boots. “Didn’t I, sweet one?”
“Yes,” you breathed, a delicate tremble starting across your body when he shook his gauntlet off. It made a dull clank as it hit the rug under your feet. “Please, Steve, I need you.”
“I know, sweet one, I know, patience,” he commanded, running his fingers between your thighs until he found your clit. You jumped, hiding your moan against the back of your hand as he made firm circles across the bud. “I know you want to be stuffed full, you just need to let me prepare you first.”
You couldn’t keep all of the noises quiet as you went on tiptoes to give him more room. He shook his other gauntlet off to the floor so that he could wrap that hand around to take over playing with your clit. His other hand ran fingers across your folds until he found what he was looking for and pressed one thick digit into your pussy.
You clenched at the door with your fingers, eyes rolling back into your head as he fucked you open. “Gonna cum already, sweet one? You must have really missed me,” he cooed into your ear, kissing the line of your jaw.
“Yes, please, Steve,” you beg, obviously past whatever had stopped you the first time he had demanded you beg for it. Perhaps you just knew that what he could give you was well worth the humiliation of such a powerful woman begging to a lowly knight? Perhaps you were just so desperate that you couldn’t hold back any longer? Or, perhaps he was the one being manipulated. Either way, he pressed another finger into your fluttering pussy to stretch it a little more. “Oh gods.”
He could tell you were close just by the way your arms were trembling where they rested against the door. He could see the bowing of your back. “That’s it, my sweet one, let go, cum for me,” he soothed against your ear.
Like a bow string being released, you whined as the orgasm rippled across your body. “Lean your head back. I want to see you come undone,” he groaned, ignoring the press of his erection against the inside of his codpiece. You very obediantly lean back until your face came into view. Steve nearly came undone himself to see your lips wet and slightly parted, eyes hazy with pleasure and your skin so beautifully shining with a bit of sweat. “Fuck, you’re so beautiful.”
He couldn’t wait any longer. He pulled away, ignoring the groan of disappointment from you, he quickly worked to get his codpiece off so he could free his painfully hard erection. Steve couldn’t help the sigh of relief that escaped his mouth when his hand stroked down his length.
“Steve,” you whined softly, looking over your shoulder with longing. “Please.”
“So needy,” he chuckles, taking a step back to see how pretty you looked bent against the door with your ass out and wet dripping down your thighs. “Gods, sweet one, if you could see yourself the way I do…you’d understand why I’ve missed you these last few months.”
“If you’d put your dick in me I can remember why I’ve missed you,” you snarked, yelping when Steve’s hand came down on one side of your ass. He groped the supple flesh firmly with his hand before giving another smack that echoed through the room. “Steve.”
The knight easily pressed up behind you, his dick rubbing lightly across the sensitive flesh of the inside of your thigh. “Such a smart mouth for someone who wants my dick,” he teased, nipping at your neck. You shivered from the feel of his beard and teeth, wiggling back against him to rub his head against your folds. “Now, ask nicely, sweet one.”
You were trembling again, hands pressed against the door and undergarments around your ankles. Steve wished he had some way to capture this moment forever because it was the thing of wet dreams. “Please, Steve, I-I need you to fuck me,” you finally whimpered, still rubbing your slick onto his cock.
Steve smirked, easily lining up and thrusting forward in one quick motion. Your mouth opened but no sound came as you were shoved forward, going up onto your tiptoes to compensate. “Just like that?” he growled against your neck, throbbing at the feel of your tight walls squeezing him in all the right ways. He could tell by the wave of tremors that wracked your body that you had cum just from his first thrust. It did wonders for his ego. “Already cumming? You have missed this.”
You would have said something but he was wrapping his metal covered arm around your neck, pulling you back until you were pressed against his armor. His other hand went to your clit; your reaction was instant when you gasped, trying to push back to fuck yourself on his dick. “Steve, please,” she begged, trying to gain any sort of leverage when it was obviously futile in this position. “S-So deep.”
The knight only made short, shallow thrust into your body, making sure to angle it just right so you made that pretty whine when he hit the spot inside of your body. “I could stay like this forever, sweet one, wrapped up in your pussy as you cum just from the smallest of movements,” he whispered into your ear, tightening his arm around your neck. “But I guess we don’t have that kind of time, do we?”
Without pulling out of you, Steve easily maneuvers the two of you until you are bent over the arm of a sofa, face in the cushions and ass in the air. Steve didn’t give you any time to think, starting a hard, fast pace that had you on the tips of your toes. With you off balance, Steve easily grabbed your wrists, pulling them back. Simultaneously, he pulled you backwards by your arms while thrusting forward.
Your noises were slightly muffled by the cushion but just having you in such a compromising position and knowing you could very easily overpower him was intoxicating. Steve knew it was wrong to want to overpower one of the most powerful beings on the continent but there was something about the way you put all of your trust in him. You let him see you at your most vulnerable; you let him overpower you and that was…addicting.
His skin rose in goosebumps when his orgasm threatened to overtake him. “Tell me, Lorekeeper,” he said, still fucking you at a merciless pace that had the room full of the sound of skin on skin. “Where would you like me to cum?”
You whimpered when another orgasm rippled across your body. “M-My face, please, Steve, cum on my face.”
He groaned in appreciation, pushing his hands down on your hips to up the pace. Your feet came off the floor completely but it only made it easier to keep you exactly where he wanted. “Sweet one, you’re too good to me,” he grunts, so close to the edge.
Steve pulled away quickly, grabbing your hair to help haul you off the couch and onto your knees in front of him. He kept a hold of your hair, stroking his cock until it throbbed. You opened your mouth and stuck your tongue out with a hazy look in your eyes. Cum splashed across your cheeks and tongue and forehead, completely debauching you in the prettiest of ways.
The knight leaned against the arm of the couch, panting. “Gods,” he nearly yelps when your tongue teasingly runs across his sensitive cock. There was a smug look on your face when he looked down. He felt his softening member twitch slightly at the picture you made on your knees, covered in his cum. He reached down to grab your chin between his fingers and thumb, wiping some of the mess with his thumb and then into your mouth.
“Oh fuck,” you mumble around his thumb, looking up with foggy eyes. “We…we should probably get back.”
Steve’s lips thinned but he knew you were right. “Allow me,” he chuckled, helping you to your feet and pulling your undergarments up before smoothing down your skirt. “Perhaps you might want to visit the wash-oh.”
With a wave of your hand, your face was completely clean and your hair was back to the way it had been before he messed it up. “Magic makes everything better,” you laugh brightly, giving a quick gesture so his gauntlets come to your hands. “These are yours, sir.”
He fixed his codpiece before taking the gauntlets. “Thank you.”
There was a loud crash from outside that caught both of your attention. Steve felt his stomach drop as he went for the door. Moving with far more speed than expected, you blocked the door with your body. There was a pained look on your face which made the knight’s heart pound.
“You’re not just here to see me…are you?” he asked, clenching his fists at his side.
“I’m sorry, Steve,” you whisper and, to your credit, you did sound genuinely apologetic. “I hope that you can forgive me for what’s about to happen but…I understand if you can’t.”
“Lorekeeper, get out of my way,” Steve demanded, stepping forward even though it was obviously a lost cause. If you didn’t want him to get out of the room…he wouldn’t. “What is happening? What did you do?”
You stand firm in your spot, wringing your hands in a very strange show of worry. “You had to know this would happen, Steve. King Rathias tried to kill Queen Mayven with a curse; he sent you to find help so far away because he thought it might be long enough for the Queen to die; and just as insurance, he sent you out with every assurance that you would fail at your mission,” you said, growing louder as you spoke. You had a look of fury on your face that made him take a quick step back when you advanced. “He was going to…tarnish your reputation just so he could kill the rightful holder of the throne so that his family could take over Sygon.”
Steve felt the room grow cold, frost starting to creep across the windows and across his armor. “You were distracting me.” It wasn’t a question. He knew this to be the truth.
The pain that crosses your face is more of an answer than any words. “I’m sorry, Steve, it was…it was all General Harmony’s plan. She needed you out of the room so that Lord Barnes and Lady Natasha could get the proof she needed-”
“Bucky and Natasha are in on the plan?!” he practically roared, feeling a little validated when you flinched. “Why didn’t you tell me?! I could have-would have helped!”
You reach out but Steve pulls away quickly before you can touch his armor. “Steve, please, we couldn’t risk your honor. If you were caught conspiring against your King then no kingdom would take you as a knight. You would lose your knighthood and…I couldn’t bear the thought of you being a casualty in this. If you fought back against General Harmony then you would not only lose your knighthood but would also be thrown into jail for treason,” you tried to reason, fear and dread apparent in your eyes. You looked lost as you pulled your hands against your chest, eyes closed like you were trying to stop yourself from crying. “I made General Harmony swear to me that you and any of the other innocent knights be given amnesty. Just because you unknowingly follow an evil King doesn’t make you evil.”
“You should have told me,” Steve snapped, feeling like the ground might open up and swallow him whole.
“I know I-” you stopped, jerking your head towards the door. Steve felt like his heart had stopped when he blinked and you were suddenly gone with just the slightest pop sound.
Steve growled, ripping the door open to run down the hallway. There was shouting and he could see light coming from the throne room. It didn’t take him long to find that the tables and curtains were on fire. Heat radiated through the room but it didn’t stop him from seeing you with two large silver dragon wings sprouting from your back, bobbing in the air right behind the chandelier.
A bolt of black lightning came from the throne where Steve paused when he saw the King throw another spell. His heart thundered in his chest when he looked over to see that bolt flying towards a tall, threatening looking woman who lifted a large shield with glowing symbols on it to bat it away like it were some kind of thrown stone. The woman had burnt red skin with scars marring her body up to the large spiral horns that sprouted out of her dark black hair.
Steve knew instantly that this was General Harmony in the flesh. Her armor gleamed with the sigil of the Elven Kingdom and beside her stood her right hand, Uk’meish, a tall, scarred, rare dark-furred creature that looked both beastial and humanoid. He was of a rare race of Orcs who lived in the mountains and grew fur as a means to protect against the cold. His weapon was a chain with a spearhead on the end, which he spun with one hand.
“Come peacefully and we won’t have to incapacitate you, Rathias,” the General’s rough voice boomed with obvious magical volume.
The King hardly said anything as he started making signs with his hands and chanting words in the arcane language that he had seen you use before. “Now, Keeper!” Harmony roared, charging with Uk’meish at her side.
Steve watched you weave your own signs in the air, eyes starting to glow with magical energy before letting it explode around you in a wave of cold and frost. The ground froze around the two warriors and up the stairs where it crawled up Rathias’ body until everything was covered in a thick layer of ice. The knight could only watch as the General’s large ax with a handle that looked like the gnarled branch of a tree and glowed with a green light came down on the frozen King.
His feet almost moved of their own accord until a firm hand grabbed his shoulder. “You can’t, Stevie,” Bucky whispered, pulling the blond back into the hallway so they weren’t spotted.
Steve felt lost as he watched the ice crack and blood slowly leak out. He flinched when your eyes looked at him, glowing and ethereal, and it became more evident how different the two of you were. There was an endless abyss between you and Steve that the human would never cross even if he had as much time as you did. He would never match you enough to fight by your side or be any use to you other than a good lay.
“Buck, you knew,” he said, dejected and tired. His armor suddenly felt too heavy a burden to carry at that moment as he watched his King break from the ice and fall to the ground. “Why didn’t you tell me?”
Bucky’s lips pressed together and his brow furrowed. “I’m sorry, I…I wasn’t allowed to tell you…neither was Nat.”
Steve knew that but it didn’t stop the ache from spreading through his chest. He felt so betrayed by the closest people to him. Once the King was properly restrained, Steve turned and quickly made his way to his quarters. He couldn’t face you, not yet, and he couldn’t watch as the King was dragged away bloody and in cuffs.
It felt like he had failed.
He stripped away the armor until he was left in nothing but his underclothing, staring at the window where he could see the King being hauled into the carriage with metal walls and a lock. You pressed your hand to the door and it glowed with arcane sigils before it disappeared out of sight. He turned away from the window when you turned around, eyes searching.
Steve was just sitting on his bed when a knock came to his door. “Go away,” he whispered, resting his face in his hands.
“Open the door, Sir Steve,” the rough, harsh voice of General Harmony was unmistakable.
Against his better judgment, he followed orders and opened the door to find the imposing woman standing there. “General Harmony,” he breathed, stepping back out of respect so that she could enter. She had to duck down so that her horns didn’t get caught on the door frame. Her height and muscle mass seemed to take up so much of the small room when he closed the door behind her. “Do you need me for something?”
Her long, calloused hand brushed across his breastplate that was sitting on the bed. It bore the house crest of Sygon’s royal family. “I feel that an explanation of my plan may be in order, seeing as you were kept in the dark,” she explained, walking over to the window. She stood with her hands behind her back, nails long and hands covered in thick veins and horrible scars. “For that, I apologize wholeheartedly. It was never my intention to put you in such a position but…a calculated necessity I fear.”
“Why didn’t you tell me? I would have helped,” Steve said just like he had done to you.
She turned to look at the knight, sharp amber eyes looking at him intensely. “I know you would have,” she nodded, face just as scarred as the rest of her exposed skin. “But that would have taken everything from you. Now, I, personally, do not care if you lose your knighthood if it is for the greater good…but the Lorekeeper? She thinks quite highly of you and has a fondness for you that I have not seen her show anyone all of the time I’ve known her. It was she who said you deserved to not get caught up in this matter; it was she who offered to distract you while the plan went through.”
“Shouldn’t that have been my decision to make?” Steve demanded sharply. He hated that his choice…his options were stolen before he even knew them.
The General took a few steps forward to place her hand on his shoulder. Her skin was extraordinarily hot through his shirt but he met her gaze, feeling quite odd that he had to look up to make eye contact. “You may not understand or appreciate that the Lorekeeper’s apparent betrayal was a kindness. You have lost nothing in this take down of your King and the Queen will surely keep you by her side for your help in showing us the evil that plagued this kingdom.”
Steve wasn’t sure if her words made him feel better or worse but he definitely didn’t feel good about the situation. “Thank you, for your concern but this burden is mine to bear and only I can decide how to handle it.”
“Of course,” the General nodded, stepping back to stand at her full height. “I will be here to make sure the transition and aftermath are calm and peaceful. If you have any questions or concerns or need any assistance, please, feel free to ask Uk’meish or myself. We are at your kingdom’s disposal.”
You were hardly any help with the transfer of power with your mind always straying to a certain blond knight. Steve had made himself busy with interrogating the guards and knights of the kingdom with the General. You hardly ever caught a glimpse of him and if you did, he pointedly refused to even look at you. It hurt so much that you were afraid you might actually cry for the first time in memory.
Natasha helped you with setting up magical shields and guards around the kingdom so that magic could be introduced formally. It was tedious work that kept your mind occupied. She was quiet and straight to the point, as she had always been during the meetings. It gave you time to focus on your work and not worry about a certain knight.
“You did the right thing,” Natasha said once you stepped back from the last sigil of protection. It was carved in the trunk of a yew tree, which you suddenly found quite interesting while you checked that the circle was properly set. “Steve is a pragmatic man, he will understand with time.”
You can’t help but heave a heavy sigh when you realize this was something you definitely should talk about. “I know that the end result was good but…I don’t think the means by which I achieved my part of the plan were worth it,” you admit, thinking about how much it must hurt Steve to know you used him in such a despicable manner. “I would not begrudge him if he never forgave me for what I’ve done.”
The red-headed assassin is quiet for a few moments as you walk back towards the castle. It looked like the avatar of your dread and guilt. You weren’t sure if you were excited to get everything done and over with or if you hated the thought more knowing it would be the end of everything. No closure, no final words or lingering kiss of good-bye…just, you popping out of existence and leaving the poor man alone to hate you.
“Steve came from nothing, Keeper. His mother was frail with sickness and he was weak and a nobody. Many knights laughed at him when he asked to be a squire because of how skinny he was but he never stopped trying. It wasn’t until the Queen, then a Princess, saw him and demanded that her father make him a squire,” she explained, captivating you with the tale. You couldn’t imagine the tall, muscular man being as she said. “He went through hell to prove himself. He worked harder than any other squire, did more chores, cleaned the stables better than anyone else and didn’t complain. Then, almost as if overnight, he became as he is now.”
You stopped, something clawing at your memory like a beast trying to be free. “You said…like it was overnight?”
Natasha stopped to look at you. “Well, perhaps not overnight but it seemed that way because it happened so quickly. Everyday he seemed to get stronger and healthier. It wasn’t long after that he fast tracked into being a knight of the kingdom.”
You couldn’t quite grasp the memory but that wasn’t odd seeing as you had centuries worth of them. It was recent, you knew that. “Almost like magic,” you mutter, jerking your head up when someone calls out to you.
Aldoran stood in front of the castle, donning his human form, which stood out amongst the simple people of the kingdom. You felt the breath leave your chest when you realized he was here to escort you home. “Thank you, Natasha, for the story, I truly appreciate your honest words,” you tell the woman, smiling.
You walked up to your friend who placed a gentle hand on your shoulder. He knew you better than anyone in this plane of existence; he could see when you were distraught. “It is time, ghràdhaich,” he said with a gentle tone using the word for beloved in the ancient dialect of dragon. It was a term of endearment he had been using for you since the two of you had broken out of the slaver’s dungeon so many centuries ago.
Your eyes cast up to the window that you know to belong to Steve’s quarters, startled when you see the man standing there. His eyes meet yours and the feel of tangible connection is hard to ignore but he breaks it first by turning away and disappearing. Sickness rolls through your stomach but Aldoran gives you no time as he reaches out and you both pop out of the kingdom.
Weeks pass in the tower and you do nothing but sit idly by while the world spins around you. Aldoran keeps close, knowing that you were hurting and trying to distract you as best he could. You refused to see anyone who came to the tower and ignored all calls from any of your companions or contacts; you took no jobs during those weeks to make magical items and hardly touched your food or slept. Any sleep you did get was plagued by nightmares of Steve walking away or the look on his face when he realized what you had done.
It wasn’t odd that you woke up screaming with tears down your face.
In the fourth week, Aldoran landed on the balcony and promptly jerked you up to your feet and walked you to the edge. “A-Aldoran what are you-” he promptly took off with you in his arms until you landed on the balcony with a whole contingent of youngling Dragons of all colors. There were two of your Dragon caretakers standing in human form waiting for you. “What’s going on?”
“You need to get out of this tower, Keeper,” Aldoran demanded with no room for argument. “These younglings are going to the Crystal Mountains, you will accompany them just to make sure they come back safely.”
You were, truthfully, far too tired to argue so you merely waved your hand to change your clothes. “Very well, let’s go,” you said, stretching your silver dragon wings and following behind the group of dragons as they took off.
When you glanced back, Aldoran teleported away. It left you wondering but you knew he would inform you of his trip once you got back. For now, at least you had something to keep your mind off of the lingering guilt.
Steve wiped his brow of the sweat from afternoon training with the squires as he walked up the stairs towards the castle. He needed a long soak in the hot springs below the castle and a rest before his evening duties. Bucky had offered several times to take over some of his work off his shoulders but more than anything, Steve needed the work to distract him from his heartache.
“Captain,” Scott said when he came out of the archway into the castle’s courtyard. “There’s someone here to see you.”
It struck him as odd because, though he was the Knight Captain, he hardly ever got visitors. “Who is it?” he asked while handing his helmet to the small squire who followed him.
The look of mischief in his eyes said a lot and nothing all at the same time. “It’s Aldoran, the Lorekeeper’s-oh, there he goes!”
Steve hardly heard the end of his sentence as he took the stairs nearly three at a time to get to the courtyard. The elegant man stood there in his regal clothing looking quite out of place amongst the common flora. “Aldoran,” Steve panted out, suddenly embarrassed by his rush to get here hoping that you would be with him. “What a rare surprise. What brings you to Sygon?"
The faux-human gave a wry grin, gesturing for the knight to walk with him along the trail that wrapped around a small pond. “I apologize for not calling ahead, Knight Captain, but the matter I must discuss with you is of the utmost importance,” Aldoran explained, steps matching the Knight’s easily. “It is about the Keeper.”
Steve felt his heart long for the woman even as his feeling of betrayal bubbled up like bile in his throat. “And why could she not visit on her own to speak of this matter?” he asked, trying for aloof but fearing he may sound desperate instead.
Aldoran chuckled softly, looking at Steve with his unnervingly silver eyes. “For all of her skill, power and knowledge, she is remarkably bad in matters that pertain to romance and the heart. She would rather wallow in the guilt of her actions than make up for it in deeds; she thinks that your mind's made up and that it is her fate to live with her regret for the rest of her long life.”
The thought of you sitting in your tower, surrounded by all the knowledge of the world and magic, looked after by dragons of all kinds and with all of the magic at your fingertips…suffering in the abyss of regret for what you did to him is more painful than his feelings of betrayal. “I’m not sure…if I’m ready to forgive her, yet,” Steve admits, having the strange sensation that his armor was too heavy again.
“Allow me to give you some perspective, Knight Captain,” the Dragon begins, stopping next to the pond. “There are things she did not tell you. Circumstances that put her in a difficult position.”
Steve felt the sudden urge to flee, which was a first for him. Something deep inside feared that what the creature said would change everything…would make him regret causing you so much hurt and pain. He stood strong, knowing, in his heart, that he needed to hear this perspective.
“Go on,” he whispered softly, steeling himself for what was to come.
You jolted awake when the loud gong sounded from the knock to the tower door. There was a moment where you felt like just going back to sleep and ignoring it until the gong sounded three more times. Someone was being rather insistent.
“Aldoran,” you called across the little stone dangling amongst the many rings in your ears. “Can you get that?”
I’m currently away on business, Keeper.
It was odd for the dragon to be away so long but you begrudgingly threw the blankets off and quickly pulled your silken robe around your sleep clothes. You were far too tired and far too irritated to even worry about a spell to change before making your way down to the front door. The gong never stopped ringing, which made you even more irate.
“I’m coming, just fucking stop…” your breath left your lungs when you flung open the door to find the most unexpected person there. “Knocking.”
Steve looked just as disheveled and Ferran was already laid out in the grass sleeping. “Keeper,” he said, panting and covered in a thin sheen of sweat.
“Just let me speak,” he interrupted gently, catching his breath. “Why didn’t you tell me the whole truth?”
“W-What?” you stammer, pulling your robe tighter. “What do you mean?”
Steve’s expression was intense but not full of hatred like you expected. “Aldoran told me everything, Keeper. Rathias was making plans to have me killed so that I never figured out his plot. You kept me in the dark…to keep me safe,” he whispered, looking like he wanted to move closer. “You knew that if he got even a hint that I knew too much…he would move his plan forward and you might not have been able to keep me from becoming a casualty.”
You squeezed your eyes closed, trying to keep the tears from spilling over but it proved a futile attempt. The sound of dropped metal made you open your eyes in just enough time to find Steve’s hands cupping your cheeks, wiping at your tears with his thumbs. “I’m sorry, Steve,” you choke, touching his hands. “I didn’t mean for it to turn out like this. I was going to distract you with a spell once we were at the washroom but…you pulled me into that room before I had the chance and…”
“And what?” he urged, far too close for the position to not be considered intimate.
“I couldn’t refuse your advances. I was weak of will and I missed you so much that I made things so much worse. None of these excuse my actions or warrant forgiveness from you I just-”
The words died on your lips when he pulled you in for a desperate kiss. You melt into the man’s armor, trying not to whimper when his arms wrapped you up in a tight embrace like he was fearful you might run or disappear. “I rode through the night to get here because I wanted to apologize for my harsh tone and cruel words, sweet one,” he said, lips still touching yours. Now that the tears had started, they wouldn’t stop.
“I do not deserve your forgiveness, Steve,” you sob, hating that it felt good to have his forehead resting against yours.
“I am still a bit hurt but…I know you will make it up to me and, truthbetold, I cannot imagine my life without you,” he confessed, holding you only tighter against his armor. “I fear your beauty and wit were far more effective than any love potion could ever be. I am smitten by you, sweet one.”
Your heart nearly burst from happiness as you threw your arms around the knight’s neck and kissed him again. “I will make it up to you, I swear it,” you promised, words lost in his passion.
He growled, low and primal, holding onto you like you were some precious artifact. “Get us to your room, sweet one, or I will have you in this stairwell for anyone to stumble upon.”
The groan that escapes your mouth is needy, “Steve.” With the wave of your hand and a breathless incantation, the two of you pop into your bedroom. “Too much armor.”
Steve smirks when his armor is suddenly off and neatly stacked on your vanity. “What? Do you not want to take the time to strip me of my armor, love?” he taunts, stepping close enough for you to feel the heat radiating from under the simple cloth. “Or are you that desperate to prove how sorry you are to me?”
Leaning down, you watched as he pulled a dagger from his boot, holding it up for the candle light to catch on the silver edge. “Get rid of the robe unless you want me to cut it to ribbons,” he whispered, tone calm and dangerous all at the same time.
You easily shucked the silk away, letting it crumple to the ground and revealing the tight chamise that clung to every dip and curve of your body. It was made of fine Elven cotton that was softer than fur and more durable than leather. Steve’s eyes trailed down the length of you, causing you to tremble with the wait. But you knew patience was expected so you merely stood there and let him continue to map out your curves with his gaze.
“Gorgeous,” he sighs, looking at you with a heat that you felt in your bones. “Absolutely gorgeous.”
He ran the tip of the dagger across the skin of your shoulder, feather light but enough to send a thrill of adrenaline down your spine. “S-Steve,” you breath, chest heaving and throat dry from anticipation.
“Trust me, sweet one,” he soothed, smirking at the gasp that you sucked in when his wrist flicked and the strap of your chamise was sliced in two. “I know how much you enjoy the feeling of vulnerability. It is such an honor for you to put your faith so willingly in me.”
He drew the tip across the hollow at your throat and along your collarbone to cross to the opposite shoulder. “I-I trust you,” you whisper, moisture starting to soak the insides of your thighs.
The flat side of the dagger presses against the underside of your chin, tilting your head up until you get lost in those blue eyes. “I know you do. Stand still, darling.”
You startle when his blade slices through the other strap like it wasn’t made of some of the most durable cloth the Elves had ever achieved. His knife ran down the front of your gown until the tip met the base of your sternum. You sucked in a breath when the tip cut through the fabric and lightly brushed your skin. Steve’s eyes watched as he sliced the blade upward, pulling your chamise to reveal more flesh of your thighs until the cloth was cut through to the top.
“Good girl,” he purred, running the tip of the blade across the skin between your breasts. Goosebumps popped up and your trembling was becoming dangerous considering the situation. “You’re doing so well for me, sweet one, just a little more.”
You took a deep breath as he slowly went to his knees, dragging the knife through your gown like it were butter. He only stopped when the cloth was completely cut in twine and fell away to show your naked body. He kneeled at your feet, looking up at you as if you were the most precious thing to him. “Sit, darling, let me take care of you,” he whispered, setting the dagger to the side while you shakily flopped back onto the bed.
He gave you no time to get comfortable, throwing your legs over his shoulders and running his tongue across your clit with perfect accuracy. The tingle that went through your body made you nearly squeal; you were so worked up already that you could hardly hold yourself upright without gripping his soft golden hair for help. His hands groped at your thighs, most definitely leaving fingertip shaped bruises in their wake.
“Steve, gods, please, I need it,” you practically sobbed, knowing you wouldn’t last long.
“Already? Oh sweet one,” he moans as he presses two fingers into your pussy. It sent you over the edge, thighs clamping against the sides of his head. He didn’t stop even when you couldn’t hold yourself up and fell backwards, still gripping his head like it was a lifeline.
Your noises slowly got louder until you were tugging at his hair, trying to get him to come away. “Please, Steve, I need you,” you begged, glad when he sat up and put his knee on the edge of the bed next to your thigh.
“I know, sweet one, I know,” he soothes, easily discarding his shirt and pants before helping you scoot back on the bed. His hand gently ran up the underside of your thigh, urging you to wrap your legs around his waist. Those muscular forearms framed your face, his eyes staring into yours to watch your expression when his head nudged at your wet sex. “Eyes on me, Keeper, I want to see you come apart.”
His words and the look on his handsome face and the way he loomed over you with his broad shoulders and strong muscles made you feel safe, protected and, dare you say, loved. There was definitely some kind of tangible connection between your eye contact that only made his first push inward all the more intense. Your face melted into pleasure, noises hardly leaving your mouth before they were kissed away.
“So beautiful,” he moaned, blue eyes foggy with lust as he finally bottomed out. You felt so incredibly stretched and full that your nails dug into his back.
The first few thrusts were slow and languid, his eyes never leaving your face even when your thighs started to tremble in warning of your first orgasm. “S-Steve, I’m gonna cum,” you whimper, clinging to his strong back until your nails raked across the skin. It pulled a low, growl from the knight who watched your face closely as he nearly completely left your body.
“That’s right, sweet one, make a mess of my cock,” he smirked before slamming forward completely.
Your mouth opened in a silent scream when the orgasm was basically forced out of your body. He didn’t stop either, keeping that rough, hard pattern of pulling all the way out before slamming back inside of you. You could feel him abusing your cervix but didn’t care as wave after wave of pleasure rolled through your nerves and lit up fireworks in your vision. “Steve, oh gods, I-I can’t,” you nearly sobbed when he had wrung countless orgasms out of you.
“One more, my love,” he soothed, burying his face in your neck. “You can give me one more.” The power of the final climax had your body spasming and you felt something unfamiliar before you gushed around the man’s cock. “Oh fuck, sweet one, you’re so perfect. I’m close.”
You pressed the heels of your feet against his backside to keep him from pulling out. “Please, cum inside me, Steve,” you begged desperately.
Steve groaned, thrusts becoming jerky and stilted before he seated himself completely. You could feel him throb in climax, his face still buried in your neck. The two of you stayed like that for a few moments, catching your breath, until he leaned up to look down at you. There was so much going on in his eyes. You saw the admiration, awe, affection and love glimmering in the blue that it took your breath away.
“Steve, I love you,” you whisper, breathless and weak.
His eyes widened before his face relaxed into one of joy. “I love you too, sweet one,” he answered, kissing your lips gently. “From now on, will you try to keep me informed about plans that involve me?”
You nod your head quickly, “I promise.”
“Good, then you’ve more than made up for your mistake,” he smirks, teasing you obviously.
You huffed out a laugh, loving the way it felt with his weight resting on you. “How is making me cum nearly three dozen times but you only once anywhere near me making anything up to you?” you asked skeptically.
“I told you, my love,” he chuckled with a sweet smile on his face. “You are more powerful than any other person I’ve ever known. You’ve lived through more than I could ever know. And yet…” He gently brushed a stray piece of hair away from your face, looking at you with such admiration. “You allow a lowly human knight like myself to have full control of you. You trust me so much that you would let me tie your hands in such a way that you had fewer options in spells to overwhelm me if I went too far. It’s not about how many times I orgasm, darling. It’s about your faith in me. That is all I need and ask of you.”
His words struck a chord in your heart and you found more tears streaming down your cheeks. “Steve, stop talking now,” you choke out with a small laugh.
“I’ll stop being a hopeless romantic if you stop apologizing,” he counters, kissing your forehead before getting up. You felt incredibly empty without him but that didn’t stop you from enjoying the sight of that beautifully toned ass walking toward your washroom.
“Deal,” you call after him, wincing when you sit up in a very uncomfortable wet spot. You couldn’t remember a time when you had ever cum so hard that you had wet the bed beneath you.
He came back with a damp washcloth, offering it to you with a smug grin. “I take it from your face…that’s never happened before?”
You gave him a bland look, waving your hand so that everything was dry and clean. “Don’t let it go to your head, Knight Captain,” you said with a cheeky tone.
It only served to make the smug smirk even more pretentious. “Well, I’m just going to have to make that a common occurrence, hm?” he teased, going over to grab his clothing.
“Are you going?” you questioned, feeling the disappointment in your heart immediately.
Steve’s blue eyes softened when he saw your expression. “Oh, sweet one, I told Bucky to cover for me until morning. I have a long ride to get back to the kingdom.”
The snort of laughter escaped before you could hold it back. It earned you a wry look from the man as he tied up his breeches and went to pull on his boots. “Let poor Ferrant have a break for the gods sake, Steve. Just let me teleport you back to Sygon,” you say, standing up and giving a little flick of your finger so that his armor magically pops into existence in its proper place.
He gave a small roll of his eyes, checking to make sure everything was strapped on effectively. “Not everything needs to be made simpler with magic, Keeper. Sometimes I feel like you would be helpless without your magic,” he teased gently as you opened the door into the stairwell after pulling your robe on.
You glance over your shoulder at him with a cheeky grin on your face. “You’d like that, wouldn’t you, Knight Captain.”
The blue of his eyes took on a darker tone, which took your breath away, again. Just one look and you felt like you wanted to do anything he asked of you. “Don’t tempt me, love,” he rasped with a voice thick of desire.
The cold air of the evening cools your sex warmed skin when you step out of the tower. You give a quick whistle, smiling when Ferrant stands from his resting place and trots over. “Sweet, sweet Ferrant,” you coo to the horse, rubbing down his snout and producing an apple for him to eagerly eat. “Steve ran you so hard, didn’t he? Don’t worry, I’ll make sure you get home with none of the work on your part. Next time, tell Steve to run here on his own.”
Steve was shaking his head as he walked over to hoist himself up onto the saddle. “I’m going to need you to stop baby talking Ferrant. He’s a warhorse for paradise’s sake.”
“Don’t listen to him,” you continue in the annoying voice, earning a gentle headbutt from the horse that made you laugh. “Don’t run the poor thing ragged next time.”
You closed your fists and when you opened it, on your palm lay a ring. It was of a masculine design with an arcane sigil etched into the blue gem that was carefully placed in the silver band. “Another gift?” he smiles, letting you set the ring in his gloved hand. “What kind of magic does this one do?”
With a snarky grin, you easily slip the ring onto one of his fingers. “Wear it while you sleep so that it can magically sync with you and after that, once a day, you can teleport to anywhere you want. Be warned, Steve, only go to places that you know well or think of the person you want to see. Think of the place or person for a few seconds then tap the ring and you will be teleported instantly,” you explain, keeping hold of his hand to kiss the ring lightly. “Use it wisely, Knight Captain, teleporting to somewhere unfamiliar can cause a lot of problems. If you need help, just use your necklace to contact me.”
He looks at the ring on his finger before looking back at you, hesitant. “I don’t think I can accept this, Keeper. I’m sure something like this is far too valuable to just give away.”
You gently ease his glove back onto his hand, covering the ring. “I made it especially for you, Steve, as a way to show genuine regret for my actions. It is hardly enough to earn forgiveness in my opinion,” you whisper, his thumb and finger grabbing your chin so that he can raise your eyes to his.
“I told you, love, all is forgiven,” he reassures you, sealing it with a kiss before sitting up on Ferrant correctly. “Until we meet again, Lorekeeper.”
“I will wait with bated breath,” you smile as your hands start making the gestures for the spell. With a few arcane words, you feel the change in pressure just before the soft pop and the man is gone.
You stand outside the tower until the sun starts creeping over the horizon, painting the sky in pastel watercolors. Aldoran landed next to you, quietly standing and watching the sunrise. “I assume things are back to normal?” he quietly pondered, glancing at you from the corner of his eye.
“I don’t know if this relationship is or will ever be normal but I think he has forgiven me. Seems that someone told him of the King’s plot to have him assassinated.” You give him a knowing look from the corner of your eye.
“Lord Barnes is a very good friend of his…perhaps he is the one who said something,” he said after he cleared his throat. “Do you need rest or can I tell you who has been trying to get ahold of you while you were longing for the Knight Captain?”
You turn away from the sunrise, feeling invigorated, and head into the tower with Aldoran quickly at your heels. “No, let’s get some work done.”
