i DO believe it’s important to be able to separate fiction from reality, it’s a very important skill. i DONT believe there should be sexualization of trauma, abuse, or assault.

i don’t believe the media you enjoy represents what you like in real life in most cases, horror is a very wide spread genre.

however, i do believe if you push abusive relationships and whatnot onto characters, and continuously feed into it like “oh he rapes her so good” or whatever (something i’ve actually seen) it’s unhealthy. espically whenever i’ve seen CHILDREN in these communities having adults willfully interact with them.

not to mention, everything has to be taken in with a level of moderation. i can’t watch horror all the time because it will scare me, and effect my mood. i think the same for toxic dynamics.

i don’t mind people trying to show abusive relationships in media or using characters to cope with their own. i don’t like when people are taking trauma millions go through (and many proshippers THEMSELVES haven’t gone through) and making it seem like it is to be desired.

hey real horror fans are constantly picking on the horror movies that sexualise the violence against women or how horror is used as an excuse to add r*pe scenes that’s clearly the directors jerk off material or how fiction in general is constantly forced to add in sexy scenes just to appeal to the male audience. Did you know the vast majority of pilot episodes are told to include female nudity to hook viewers in. I’m sorry but we do not need to entertain these people. There’s no good argument for why we should be producing and distributing fictionalized depictions of child sex abuse or any other kind of abuse.

It would be weird and fucked up if you were purchasing comic books of children being physically beaten too. Why do we need to have these kinds of materials available? Who does it serve? Does it serve children, to have some of the most heinous crimes to be committed against them casually consumed as leisure? Does it serve education about child sex abuse for these materials to be available as a tolerated form of entertainment? We should be asking: what exactly is the purpose of these materials such as lolicon and shotacon?

Something I realised about all this is that the anger these people feel about us "dehumanising" abusers/pedophiles and whatnot is that it comes from a place of wanting to be in control.

It's the same tactics abusers use to make you feel bad for not wanting to be used. They make you feel like the bad guy for saying "kill all pedophiles"/"the only pedophiles are in rehab or dead" because it gives them less ground to stand on as abusers, and they want control over you and your mind above all else. It's the same tactics my abusers used to "put me back in line", and it's why I get such a bad taste in my mouth when I see things about "but-but pedophiles are people too!!!". They're people who've crossed the most bare minimum of moral lines by manipulating, abusing and raping a child. Someone who cannot consent, does not know why they are being hurt, and will assume they did something bad.

The only good pedophiles are dead, or in rehab, or jail. Far away from any children, far away from places where they can offend. The only good abusers are dead ones. You are not a bad person for wanting people like this out of society, or dead if they cannot fix themselves or control their urges to harm children. You are not a bad person for wanting your abusers and the people who justify their actions to die.

Okay well… that’s kinda rude. I only accept requests for shiftingquiet because I personally only like drawing canon or canon adjacent stuff when it comes to ships. Not because I think other STP ships are proships? Just because I’d rather not interact with proshippers doesn’t mean I think any ship besides shiftingquiet is weird, I just don’t indulge anything else. I’m totally chill with other STP ships :P

As for why I don’t like proshippers interacting with my blog (which is a whole ass different question) I just think being supportive/neutral about darkshipping is weird. And yes, I do know that just because one uses the proshipper label it doesn’t automatically equate to darkshipping, some use it to mean anti-harassment, but I also disagree with that.

Fundamentally I do not agree with the concept of ‘just block and move on’ because choosing inaction is still a choice. I think it’s perfectly reasonable to want to bring attention to members of a community that do weird shit so that others can avoid them. Shouldn’t that be reason enough? No, it probably wont be satisfactory for you given you felt the need to send this into my requests when I specifically asked for people to not do that. If you want my extended reasoning, it’s below the cut.

If you want to get into the complicated topic of ‘does fiction affect reality’ then I will oblige, and I do think it’s a little more nuanced than people give it credit for, but ultimately I come to the same conclusion there too.

I will ask you one thing. Do you get sad when a character you like dies? Do you feel happy when your favorite character accomplishes something? Is that not fiction affecting reality in some way? It’s not a 1 to 1 transfer, but obviously there is correlation. It’s silly to pretend there isn’t.

Fiction doesn’t exist in a vacuum—all art is political—and all fictional content by extension is influenced by real world existence and the experiences of people who write and consume it. People use fiction to get across their opinions, to bring attention to real issues, to create allegories correlating to irl things! If fiction didn’t affect reality in any way, propaganda would not work, and the advertising industry wouldn’t exist.

If one is attracted to that kind of stuff in fiction what makes it different than being attracted to the actual thing? It’s not ‘real’ per se, but they are still depictions of certain socially unacceptable things that are romanticized. Which I find very… strange.

Saying it’s different is like saying something akin to ‘I’m not jerking off to feet, I’m jerking off to a DRAWING of feet! It’s just a drawing. I don’t have a foot fetish.’ So what makes, say, the fetishization of fictional incest different?

Now onto the ‘censorship’ topic before someone inevitably asks me about that, too. I’m not against portraying incest/pedophilia in fiction as long as it is actually critiqued properly, and with tact. Most darkship content is not doing that. For example people usually bring up the book lolita, but that book was criticizing pedophilla, and portraying it as a wrong thing, it was not an endorsement of it!

And where is all this objection to censorship when it comes to actual authors and journalists being censored? Why do proshippers only care about people who rightfully find their 1k word one-shot on Ao3 about loli smut weird? Why don’t they bring that same energy to real world book banning? Censorship is a tactic used by people in places of power and by governments. A random ass teenager on the internet isn't infringing upon your rights to free speech by blocking and saying that they’re uncomfortable with darkshipping.

If we can say that media can be racist/homophobic/transphobic/ableist (E.g. depictions of harmful caricatures, stereotyping, tropes like the disposable black girlfriend, or having the gay character always die first, or infantilizing an autistic character.) and that it is a BAD thing, what’s the difference when it comes to romanticized portrayals of incest/pedophilia? Why is it when it comes to that topic now its ‘ship and let ship!’ suddenly?

Is it because you actually care about anti-censorship, the nuance behind fiction affecting reality, and creating ‘complex’ relationship dynamics, or do you just want an excuse to be a weirdo under the guise of moral superiority?

Now heres were I might come off as a bit of an asshole, but you cannot be serious coming to MY blog and asking why I want to curate MY content a specific way? Really? There are like a bajillion other people you can interact with.
