There was an odd sense of solidarity that came from the situation. It was slightly easier to swallow the bitter pill of humiliation when two of his best friends were going through the exact same thing. That being said, it was definitely a shock to see some of the things now splashed across Matt’s accounts. Seeing revealing pictures of Tootles and private conversations between the two made Nibs privy to a world kept secret until now, and he now wished he could’ve remained in ignorant bliss for much longer. Clearly Nibs didn’t hate Tootles, but it was common knowledge that they tended to butt heads.
Despite being handed the cold beer, he simply sat himself down on the Twins’ messy couch and remained silent and nursed the cider. He didn’t think he was in the mood for a drink anyway. “Yeah, I…I know,” he reassured, reaching up to rub the back of his neck. “I guess I should probably start with the obvious. How long have you and Tootles been – y’know, doing the horizontal tango? Knocking boots? Whatever. You know what I’m getting at.”
It wasn’t that Matt was angry or anything - well, not with Nibs anyway - it was more so that he was confused, perhaps. Matt was the friend with the stupid, deep, philosophical discussions in the middle of the night preaching love and acceptance in a world of war to a fault, to a level of pretentiousness, even, and while he didn’t want to make any of this personal, it felt... well. It felt like a definite decision on Nibs’s part not to let him know. Was it Matthew’s business? Not totally, no, and he wasn’t entitled to the information, but he still got the feeling that he’d missed a grand opportunity to support his brother through a rough patch.
He winced when Nibs started asking questions, but barely seconds later, a grin bloomed on his face. There was hardly any reason to smile, no, but, “Horizontal tango?” he scoffed against the neck of the bottle pressed to his cheek. “Fucking dork.” He shook his head. “Uh. A while, I guess, but, like. Never for long at a time?” Matthew tilted his head to the side as he thought on that. “How long have-- Or, not. Like. How... do you identify, at the moment?”
