It is extremely difficult to read any fanfictions/sketches in which Albert's trauma is dismissed and he is portrayed as not existing without Mycroft or where Moran is treated not as a former soldier with his own trauma (I won't allow myself the comfort of diagnosing the characters like people do with Albert and OCD) but merely as William's shadow and where Louis is reduced to a small, weak creature moulded into a childlike figure. William's dehumanisation begins with his romanticisation when a traumatised figure is reshaped into something spiritually or/and religiously superior. He means so much to Albert and Moran because, within their cycle of trauma, when a chaotic maelstrom thoughts literally begins in their minds and gnaws at them, William provides stability. He functions as a stabilising figure for their emotional state. This is not a healthy dynamic. It leads to destruction if such personalities are deprived of that anchor. That is precisely what happened when William disappeared from their lives for three years. The problem is that people unconsciously seek "stability" in characters,even if only visual, and this need to find an ideal, untraumatised figure leads nowhere, because such an ideal does not exist by definition. It becomes a black-and-white narrative.
