How much time and mental capacity is wasted on the past? On could've, should've and if only...this thinking only keeps us stuck in the past, holding onto people, places and the past.. things we cannot own, moments which cannot exist again. “The secret of change is to focus all of your energy, not on fighting the old, but on building the new.” –Socrates (is it really socrates who said this?) Personally, we can't just forget the old, if we do, we leave behind the lessons learnt, the people who matter, and we risk making the same mistakes when we don't consider the old. I see it more as looking back in terms of cause and effect. Using evidence to analyze the effects. While still looking forward to idealistic future. Being honest about the now or current state, using evidence to be clear on what that is. Then breaking the reality by dreaming of ideal, and coming back down to comparing what is the realistic, logical way forward. To compare what was, what could be, with what is. Weaving a simple transition from yesterday to tomorrow, without overwhelming. Designing and building with consideration to all and all potential to be impacted through the redesign.
