What not to write:

- extremely bubbly / sunshine personality

- Naive, innocent, overly sweet

- Overdescribe physical traits (or just don’t use any)

- don’t make y/n a walking plot device

- dont force instant romance/obsession

- unrealistic dialogue

- dont overuse pet names that may come of as infantilisation.

- dont ignore consent or boundaries that y/n has

- dont exclude diversity

- Constantly blushing, flustered, wide-eyed (there are MANY other eye shapes than the “doe eyes”, example at the bottom)

- Everyone is inexplicably drawn to her

- avoid lazy tropes with no effort, i.e. instant/surprise pregnancy, evil twin, amnesia, hidden childhood connection, miscommunication or the white truck of doom

- dont forget character growth

Making y/n like this erases diversity. The “default” y/n is usually written as this, thin, short, long straight blonde haired girl. Which not many can relate to.

The impact of that makes readers outside of that “mold” feel excluded, and relatable becomes narrowly defined.

Love interests:

When y/n is written as this tiny, naive, and dependent person. The love interest becomes some kind of protector/teacher/authority.

Why this matters is because it reduces mutuality in relationships, and it can romanticise unhealthy dynamics.

It also becomes a silencing complexity. It leaves little room for: anger, moral ambiguity, ambition and competence without cuteness. Y/n becomes palatable, and not real.

So do not write the love interest as someone who would love y/n no matter what, because what if y/n kills their family? I don’t think they would love them anymore chat.

How to write love interest without making them look like a creep <3

~ Avoid over the top adoration

~ use humor and awkwardness (Its quite charming in a way)

~ balance power and chemistry

~ Think why would this character canonical like y/n beyond looks?

~ and focus on gradual connection

How I personally think love interests should be written, is by giving them realistic reactions. Like for example:

He noticed how you always tried to cheer everyone up. It was… charming, yes, but also exhausting. Still, he found himself smiling at the effort.

Even if Y/N is “default,” show that the love interest has reasons for their feelings.

But what we can do to make y/n more realistic in a way is:

DO’s

- prioritize inner logic over personality labels

- avoid fixed physical traits (unless it’s very important to the fic)

- give y/n agency in every scene

- let them be inconsistent (like a real person)

- in smaus, make their texting neutral but intentional

- define boundaries

- let y/n say no, hate someone and feel uncomfortable

- let them struggle, fail and grow

- show fears, strengths, doubts

- dont force emotional reactions, I.e. automatic blushing, immediate attraction, constant giggling or nervous laughter. They can be blank faced as well

- use second person thoughtfully. Avoid telling them how to feel. It invites interpretation

- write modular traits. Which just means different characteristics that are made up of separate parts that can change independently.

- be honest about scope

People specifically dislike when reader is described as petite, pale, doe‑eyed, etc. because it excludes tall, dark‑skinned, or other body types.

I also want to add that you can write around naming, for example: “they called your name” rather than inserting “y/n”.

Readers enjoy:

• Choice structures (optional branching paths) so they feel in control.

• Diverse emotional tones (not just romance, but comedy, adventure and angst are also loved by many)

• Consistent narrative flow with clean formatting and pacing.

Writing X‑Reader fics is all about fun, creativity, and making readers feel immersed. Keep your characters grounded, give your Y/N agency, and respect canon, and your readers will love the story you’re telling 💕💕

It's been over a year since you and Yui have been living with the Sakamaki brothers, and much of that time has been unpleasant, because all of them are absolute sadistic assholes

Since you and Yui were the only humans in the household it was very difficult for you both since you're both considered "the food bags" in the house which makes you guys get bitten often especially Yui since she lacked of self defense, while you, on the other hand, bravely defended both yourself and her as well from the vampire brothers when you get the chance, and when you don't she comes back in the room with bite marks all over her which ends up with you cleaning up her marks and putting bandaids on her. That's what they like about you, so confident, compassionate, and feisty, that's why they always try to get you when your vulnerable.

Yui was looking for you throughout the house, hoping to spend some time with you. She checked your shared bedroom and then the bathroom.

"Um Y/N are you-? Yui paused, surprised to see you without your shirt, with just your bra on, your short leggings, and with your hair down. "A-ah!! I'm so sorry I didn't know you were-!!!" "Woah!! damn girl take it easy it's alright" Yui still pretty embarrassed started to take a good look at you "Wow she looks even more beautiful than ever" Yui says to herself in her head.

She wasn't... wrong, you were a very beautiful woman, so confident, and never afraid to stand your ground that's why she admires you so much. "Uhh? You look at him as he's about to leave with a shocked and angry looking expression "What the fuck are you talking about?! Get back here you stupid perverted bitch!!!" Yui gently grabs your arm hoping to calm you down "Y/N please.. he's not worth it" You calm down at her reassurance with a deep breath "Right sorry.. he just makes me so angry even more then the rest of those assholes!!" "It's okay I understand" Yui smiles at you, making you feel more calm.

"Oh! what did you want to ask me? "Oh I was going to ask you if you wanted to hang out together" "Sure!! alright i'll be there once I put my clothes on "Okay!"

A few minutes later, you left from the bathroom, dressed in an outfit similar to Yui's, but in a different color. Yui was very to see that your outfit matches hers. "Woah.. you're matching with me!!" "Yeah I always thought your outfit was really cute so I thought why not wear it myself. Yui smiles at you, very happy that she is friends with someone like you.

"Wow it really ended up like that?" "Mhm it was crazy!! I would tell you more about it but it's a pretty long ass story" You both giggle while walking in the hallways of the house. "Oh, did you finish the homework for physics class?" "Oh no, I haven't. I was struggling with one of the questions, so I never really finished it." "That's alright I can help you out if you'd like" "R-really?" "Yeah, physics is a pretty hard subject, but once you understand, you'll be fine in no time and-" Yui appears to be quite captivated by you, to the point where she is no longer listening to you talk. "Wow.. she's so smart and so beautiful"

"Anyway, I think I'm going to head back to the room. I'm pretty tired." You say with a slight yawn. "Oh okay I'll see you later than Y/N-chan!" You waved goodbye to Yui as you went up the stairs to your guy's shared bedroom to rest. "Phew finally a little rest"

Yui watches your departure towards the stairs until you are no longer visible. As Yui was about to enter another room, someone took hold of her wrist and harshly pressed her against the wall.

"A-ah!!" Yui squeals with her eyes shut. "About time I took you for myself pancake~" Yui opened her eyes, having recognized the voice, and observed Ayato smirking directly in front of her.

A-ayato-kun? What are you-?" Before Yui could complete her sentence, Ayato bit down on her neck harshly. Yui whimpers and whines in pain while Ayato sucks and drinks from her neck.

"Y/n-chan can't save you right now pancake so just be a good girl and let me drink from you~" Ayato bites down on the same spot from her neck and drinks from her for while.

Yui kneels, placing her hand to her head as she feels faint. "Thanks for the meal pancake"

Suddenly, Ayato and Yui look at the stairs hearing footsteps "Hey Yui I forgot to ask you if-" You paused your sentence, and your eyes widened as you observed Yui on the ground with blood dripping on her neck, and Ayato stood before her, smirking. "What the hell did you do to her asshole?!" You say as you run to Yui, getting on your knees to console her. "What I always do~"

Yui suddenly faints in your arms "Yui? Yui!!" Ayato chuckles at the fainted girl and you. "Here comes little Y/n to the rescue hahaha!!" Ayato laughs loudly.

"Shut up you fucking bastard!!" You gently lift Yui in a bridal carry and run to the bedroom to patch up her bite marks.

*After Yui woke up*

Yui opens her eyes to see you in front of her. "Y-y/n?" "Oh thank God you're okay" Yui rises from the bed and groans as she touches her neck to feel something snug and smooth on her neck "*Sighs* thank you for patching me up Y/n" You look at her again "No problem and sorry for being able to help you earlier" Yui observes you, noticing your gaze directed at the ground, having a somewhat guilty expression on your face. She felt bad, it wasn't your fault. "It's okay Y/n it's not your fault you were tired after all" "You're right.. thanks *yawns*"

"You should get some sleep Y/n" "Yeah no kidding I'll go change first" You walk to the closet.

While changing you heard Yui yelp so you went back to the room to see Laito, Kanato, and Ayato surrounding Yui vulnerable on the bed.

"Come on Yui darling just one bite you don't want us to die of hunger do you?" "N-no please leave me alone!!"

You slammed the closet door loudly just enough for all four of them to hear and look back at you.

"You three dumbasses cleary lack the fundamental understanding of leave me alone!!". You said as you walked towards the bed.

"Why do you always interrupt our snacking Y/n? You're so mean!" Kanato complains as he grips onto his teddy bear

You and Zohakuten were always inseparable, a truly remarkable bond. Even the clones were surprised that their hateful younger brother could ever form such a connection, especially with a human. "Hah! they're at it again" "Those two are really something!!" "It truly is surprising how Zohakuten could ever bond with someone" Sekido has no comment.

Zohakuten and you decided to enjoy stargazing behind the house, sitting on the soft grass. While sitting together, you shared a pleasant conversation. "*Sigh of relief* It's nice to visit you guys again" you remarked, smiling at him "It's nice to see you too again I guess..." You giggle at his response, even though he is unable to express emotions gently, you understand his good intentions, since you two have been close for a long time. I draw him closer with a gentle tug on his arm, and he responded by embracing you, "Y/N promise me you'll never die?" Your expression shifted from a look of mild confusion to a half smile. "Zohakuten you know humans don't live forever" "I know but just promise me!!" You giggle again at his cuteness "I can't promise to always be here for the rest of your life but i will promise to love you for the rest of mine" (in a sibling way you weirdos!!!) Two hours have passed, and Zohakuten is starting to feel weary, you have never been gone this long. "Ugh where is she?! She's never-..... is she?...." He pauses his thought, considering the image of you dying. He attempts to dismiss the image from his mind as he leaves your bed to search for you. Zohakuten was now carefully walking through the dark forest, seeking you, and taking precaution to avoid stepping on branches or rocks. He has been walking for quite some time and intends to continue until he finds you safe and sound, However, he did stop when he smelled blood; he couldn't identify the blood's owner, but he knew it belonged to a human. So he started follow the sniff of blood, and the blood smell had gotten stronger when he was walking towards a tree. As he walked closer to tree he was horrified and crushed by what he saw.....

It was you... with blood dripping from your head, missing a leg and an arm, your stomach split open with your organs spilling out, and your eyes lifeless with dried up tears on your cheeks. Zohakuten was utterly devastated, he was in disbelief at the sight of his deceased older sibling he was unable to speak, only a little squeak would emerge if he tried. He approached your lifeless body and carefully cradled your head, his hand resting gently on your cheek. He was deeply saddened to see you in such a state, and felt you did not deserve this at all, Unfortunately, there was nothing he could do; you were dead, and had been taken away from this world, and everyone knows death is permanent......

The clones have noticed that Zohakuten has become less vocal and mentions you less often. They knew something was amiss, but each attempt to speak with him was met with silence and disregard.

"Zohakuten we're going now to find humans to eat are you coming?" Aizetsu opened the backyard door to find Zohakuten sitting on the steps with his head down low "Yes I'll be there in a minute..." Aizetsu quietly closes the door, leaving Zohakuten alone in the backyard to compose himself.

Zohakuten fondly remembers the nightly walks you both shared, the stargazing, flower picking, and cuddling naps. The thought of your death saddened him, and each time he considered it, his sadness deepened at the thought of never seeing his older sister figure again. The words you told him kept haunting his mind "I can't promise to always be here for the rest of your life but i will promise to love you for the rest of mine" Your words brought him joy, but now, in your absence, they only serve to deepen his sorrow.

He became quite emotional remembering that moment. After two centuries of being a demon experiencing only hatred, an unexpected emotional response occurred. A single tear rolled down his cheek at the thought of you, he wipes the tear off his face and looks at it on his finger. He is confused on why this came out his eye, but he decided to forget about it

The three clones began their journey through the forest, seeking Urogi and, more importantly, you. As time passed, two of the clones grew restless and impatient.

"Ugh where did Urogi take her?!?! i wanna have her nowwww!!" "Shut up you idiot there could be more demon slayers here waiting to get us!!!" "Can you two stop arguing it's making me sad I just wanna find her.." "Shut up you stupid crybaby!!"

They halted their walk and engaged in a childish argument, when abruptly they heard you cry out in pain. They turned around and observed you being pursued by Urogi. "Hahahaaaa!! Keep running darling you're make this even more fun for me!! You were attempting to return to the location where your siblings were, however, it was quite challenging to make significant progress due to Urogi's rapid flight in pursuit of you.

Karaku's half smile turned into a sinister, malicious, and sadistic smile "Ahh~ looks like we're playing a game of cat and mouse!! Hahaha!!. The three clones began running after Urogi in an attempt to apprehend you. "Are you fu*king serious right now?! Dealing with one of them was enough, but all four of them?!?!" You think to yourself with a hint of frustration.

You couldn't really lie they all were quite attractive, you slightly blush at the thought of their looks, However, you promptly dismissed that thought and began sprinting more quickly. Your sole desire was to locate your siblings or, at the very least, have faith that they were okay.

TIMESKIP CUZ IDK WTF TO DO ANYMORE!!

After a seemingly endless pursuit, you finally reached the building where your siblings were located. Fortunately, it appeared that the clones had stopped chasing you. The building was now shrouded in fog and severely damaged, making it difficult to see anything.

You continued to step over large pieces of rubble in an attempt to locate your siblings. "TANJIRO!! NEZUKO!!" You called out their names with a sense of urgency, hoping to find them, but unfortunately, you were unable to do so. You could not see them anywhere. The fog finally disappeared, but unfortunately, you were still unable to find their location. "Are they even here....?" You think to yourself in fear.

"Please, don't tell me that they are..." Your heart began to race with an overwhelming fear that your siblings may have met an unfortunate fate."Miss Kamado!" You turned around and noticed a kakushi approaching you in a hurried manner. (is that what they're called? i forgot) "We found your siblings and took them into care they were found unconscious on the ground when we came!!" You let out a sigh of relief upon learning that your siblings are safe and receiving appropriate care. "Thank you for taking care of them I thought they died here".

You smiled at kakushi grateful for his help, and he blushed because of your cute smile (little did you know you and the kakushi weren't alone). The sky was rumbling with thunder now. You were confused because the sky appeared clear even though it was nighttime. All of a sudden, the kakushi was hit and electrocuted by a big bolt of red and blue lightning.

You caught him in your arms as he collapsed. When you checked his pulse, there was none. He wasn't breathing, so you gently laid him on the ground, as you put him down you recognized the color of the lightning bolt that struck the kakushi It was red and blue like the bolt that electrocuted Nezuko

"How did they find me?!?! I thought I lost them!!!" You have come to realized that the clones have discovered your location, and it is evident that they are quite agitated at this moment. You suddenly feel a pair of arms wrap around your waist, one of the arms go underneath your shirt, and it starts caressing your waist

"My~ you have such a sexy looking body~ Karaku exclaims as he caresses you. You're now blushing of embarrassing, but also pleasure because no one has ever touched you like that before. "Aww~ she's blushing how cute~" Urogi leans his face closer to you, and he crashes his lips onto yours, he kisses you passionately, and shoves his tongue in your mouth. You are melting into the kiss "Ah you seem to be enjoying this aren't you sweet thing?~ "Hey!! Stop hogging her you perverts!!".

Sekido: "QUIT BEING SO DAMN DIFFICULT YOU SH*TTY CHILD!!!

Zohakuten: *rolls his eyes and flicks Sekido off*

Sekido: "YOU LITTLE SH*T!!! *Sekido raises his hand as he's about to hit Zohakuten*

Zohakuten: *About to attack Sekido but hears your footsteps coming*

You walk into the room they're in to see what happened. Zohakuten ran to you, and hugged you

Zohakuten: Yeah Sekido was just trying to hit me for no reason

Sekido: YOU LYING BI-

Y/N: Sekido, why would you do that to Zohakuten?

Sekido: "HE'S LITERALLY LYING!!

Y/N: "Sekido please don't be so harsh towards Zohakuten he's just a child

Sekido walks away because he doesn't wanna argue with his love (I sound cringe wtf)

Sekido in head: "I'll get you later Zohakuten..."

"But these two will get in our way," the sorrowful demon says as he launches an attack from his spear. "Get down!" you yell as you put your hands over Nezuko and Tanjiro's heads and push their bodies to the ground so they don't get hit. As you push them away, you deflect the attack with your katana. "Damn it, Aizetsu, you could've hurt her!" Sekido yells. "How many of these damn demons are there?!" You sorta yell in confusion and frustration "I don't know but all I know is if you cut one of their heads off they will split into more demons" Tanjiro warns, but you just cut off the head of Urogi now you probably made more of them, all of a sudden Urogi grabs you by your leg, and flies away with you "MISAKI!!!" Tanjiro tries to grab your hand, but he can't reach you in time. "Sorry about this, sweetheart~." Urogi opens his mouth wide, and his mouth starts glowing. You were screwed. "Oh shit," the yellow energy bursts into loud soundwaves, and your hearing is just gone. You lost consciousness and began falling onto tree branches. After falling for a while, you regained consciousness as you hit the ground. "God damn it!" you exclaimed, struggling to get up. Your back was hurting like hell. "I've got to get up," you think to yourself. "I can't hear anything anymore!!!" You were about to get up when all of a sudden Urogi got on top of you making you unable to move "Wow you're even cuter up close cutie I can see why my counterparts have interest in you" he gets closer to your face and licks your cheek "oh my you taste so sweet darling~" his talons goes down to your waist now (MY MANNNNN!!)

Meanwhile with Tanjiro and Nezuko:

"Aww! Urogi took our cute girl. No fair, I wanted her first!" Karaku whines with a frown on his face, and the frown on his face turns into a sadistic smile. "But that's okay. Once we're done with these brats, we can have our time with her!!" Karaku exclaims with excitement in his tone" "Tch will you stop whining like a bitch already?! Like you said, if we kill these wastes of space, we can get to her!!!" Sekido complains "I already told you," Tanjiro says with clear anger and annoyance in his voice as he slowly gets up from being unconscious. "YOU WON'T TAKE MY SISTER AWAY!!!" Tanjiro screams at them with full rage, but the demons don't care. They are going to have you no matter what.

(I just realized I forgot to add Genya in this just pretend he just got here IM SORRY IM SLOW)

(Tanjiro, Nezuko, and Genya are fighting Aizetsu, Sekido, and Karaku now)

Karaku was about to attack Tanjiro, but he and Sekido were shot with a bullet aimed at their necks. Which blew their heads off. Their heads regenerated in a fast amount of time "HOW MANY OF THESE PESKY HUMANS ARE THERE?!" Sekido growls in anger (as usual) "Genya?" Genya jumped down from where he was standing and grabbed his sword. He was about to stab one of the demons, but Aizetsu came and stabbed him in his chest. "You're so weak it's sad really" Aizetsu pitied Genya with a little bit of sass

(Nezuko and Karaku)

"Hahahahahaaaa, keep trying. You're almost there, little one!!" Karaku teases Nezuko as she tries to fight him off. "Tch quit fucking playing around, and finish her off already, Karaku!!!" Sekido says as he's fighting with Tanjiro, "I'm not gonna waste my time on you for a long, little girl, but your sister, on the other hand, is worth it *laughs manically*" Karaku kicks his foot into Nezuko's chest and breaks her arm. Nezuko managed to kick Karaku's chin hard, took his fan, and made him fly far away. Tanjiro is still fighting with Sekido. While they're still fighting, Karaku is in the air, and he destroys the building and makes Nezuko and Tanjiro fall with the building, and they are now unconscious...

"Now we just wait for the fog to lift so we can finish them off!!" "Tch forget about them they're probably not even alive!! Aizetsu, get your ass over here we're going to get that girl with Urogi!!" "Yay!! Now we can finally have our fun time with her~"

(Also I don't know where the tf Genya was when Karaku destroyed the building in the anime so that's why I didn't really mention him in this part)

The 3 clones go to the forest so they can find you~

Now you were in for a chase cause you managed to get away from Urogi, and now he's flying after you

You were 16 years old when you left home for the demon slayer corps it was sad to leave the home you have lived in for years, and more saddening to leave your little brothers and sisters, but you had to, two years have passed, and you got the news that your family had been brutally killed by Muzan Kibutsuji. You were absolutely devastated, and promised you would kill Muzan in the most brutal way possible like what he did to your loved ones.

Another two years have passed, you are now 20 years old. You have been going up and up on the demon slayer ranks, and you are now a Kinoe, at the marechi blood incident you reunited Tanjiro and Nezuko and found out Nezuko became a demon, Tanjiro was happy to see you again so was Nezuko. You were very happy to see your last living siblings, you promised to be there for them no matter what.

The moon was now fully out, and you went to the swordsmith village to get you sword repaired, as you were walking you heard screaming and saw the villagers running away you asked one of them what happened and he said "THERE ARE DEMONS SO MANY OF THEM AND THEY LOOK LIKE FISHES".

He was talking so fast and in a panicking tone you couldn't really understand what he was saying all of a sudden one of the fish demons appeared behind you "MISS KAMADO RUN GET OUT OF THERE" a couple of villagers say, they knew you were a demon slayer but they knew you weren't a hashira so they thought you couldn't handle it but that was oh so wrong.

You did a double backflip to dodge the demons attack and you jumped up high in the air then you said "Sakura Breathing Second Form: Deadly Blossom Petals" a blast of Sakura flowers unleashed from your katana and killed the demon fish thing.

As you killed the demon you landed on the ground and the villagers started thanking you then all of a sudden a bigger fish demon came and you were about to attack it but Kanroji came and finished the job "Thank you Ms. Kanroji" "No problem Misaki also I heard there was another demon somewhere else near the swordsmith village I thought you can handle it i've seen your strength before so can you? Because I gotta save these villagers from these monsters i promise i'll try to get there to help when i can" "of course i'll go there right now".

So you started running to the forest then you saw your crow flying from the air next to you then said "CAW!! CAW!! Misaki!! It appears your brother and sister are fighting off an upper rank demon you must assist them to kill off the demon CAW!! CAW!!"

When you heard Tanjiro and Nezuko were fighting a demon let alone an upper rank you ran even faster. You already lost your mother and other siblings you weren't gonna lose them too.

You stopped running after a while to catch your breath when you looked up you saw Tanjiro and Nezuko being electrocuted by a red eyed demon. Then some man bird thing started flying away with Tanjiro and you saw Nezuko fighting with some other demon.

You couldn't handle seeing your little siblings get hurt you were pissed so you ran, jumped in the air and you sliced the demon's head in rage.

You picked up Tanjiro in your arms and landed you and him on the ground "Misaki?" Tanjiro says "Sorry I took so long Tanji" You put him down and he starts getting a little teary eyed because its been so long since he's seen you.

"Damn you've grown a lot you're a man now" you praise him all of sudden you see another sound of electricity and you saw Nezuko with a staff in her throat "Nezuko!!!" Tanjiro screamed her name you ran up the wall of the building and you took the staff from the demon that was electrocuting her then broke the staff with your bare hand then you grabbed Nezuko back to the ground and sat her down next to Tanjiro.

Nezuko may have been a demon but she would always remember her family so she hugged you, and you felt happy again knowing you still have your family.

"Oh my oh my what a cute girl did you see how she broke your staff? so cute and strong we gotta have her Sekido!!! The green eyed demon exclaimed. The red eyed demon who's name you found out is Sekido growled in anger "I really hate to admit this, but I guess your right Karaku" the demons were now out of the half destroyed building and were across from you and your siblings.

Tanjiro was pissed at what the demons said, what the hell did they mean that they had to have you?! no one was gonna take his older sister from him he already got his mom and other siblings taken away from him he wasn't gonna let anyone especially some selfish demons take his older sister away!!

"What the hell are you bastards talking about?! YOU WILL NEVER TAKE MY SISTER!!!" "Too late brat shes ours now!!" The green eyed demon whose name is Karaku said "She truly is a beauty I would love to have her" a new voice reaches your ears and you see another demon with blue eyes. You realized the demons looked the same but had different personalities "But these two will get in our way".
