What I've currently been working on while not making more doll clothes: natural dyed and eco printed fabric. The dye is earth pigment (fancy mud) mixed with fresh soy milk!
"Sys how is your decent into fiber arts hell going"
Glad you asked. I have arrived at 'modern flax is Bullshit compared to what we had in historical textiles, the flax widely available for handspinning is basically the tow that would be discarded from textile creation and used with tar to caulk ships back in the day'
This naturally led me down a hole of 'why is the staple length of this stuff a bullshit 6 inches' and the answer is 'we have bred modern flax more for the oil than the fiber because cotton usurped the place of everyday textile thanks to slavery and the cotton gin'
Anyway, THIS led me to a rabbit hole that culminated in me finding flax seed bred for proper 30 inch tall plants for fiber, sold by some fellow minded nerds on a website that has not been updated since 1998 and you have to email them to buy anything.
Anyway how are all of you doing.
I FAILED YOU ALL here is the site. You can also buy flax fiber from them. The PROPER shit, not the hot garbage ass tow fiber sold as flax top for handspinners.
'machine combing shortens the flax fibers by several inches'
This right here is part of why modern linen is a pale shadow of historical linen. Legitimately it cannot be properly replicated by machines. It HAS to be made by human hands if you want the best quality.
@ the Hermitage in central PA; I'm sorry for what I've done to your inbox by posting this on the feral nerd site
McCalls Pikachu Plush 2512 Sewing Pattern
This thing has been out of print for like, 26 years and some of us want to make chubby classic pikachu so uh... I figure it's okay to share bc it's kinda hard to get your hands on the remaining physical copies.
Bonus points: Aelith made some embroidery/applique files for it too
This is FREE, please don't pay for the pattern.
Only the EMBROIDERY is paid.
Remade by AeilithArt so that we could use the pattern without like, destroying it. It's not exact since it's trace, but it's p much the same

Oooh I did it. I crocheted the collar with tatting thread and a wonky 1.15mm hook.
Despite being maybe even bigger proportionally than the green and white one on the 1/3 doll, this one feels daintier. It was certainly way more difficult to make, so small and fiddly, and the hook needs to go straight in the trash, less said the better 🤬
I really enjoyed the ease with which this particular pattern lends itself to color changes. It just occurred to me on the last row that it might look pretty and "leafy" in a green color, and I had one single greenish option in the thrifted bag o tatting thread so I didn't even have to make any hard color decisions. Just tried it and it worked. I had also picked out white for the flowers at the beginning but once I added the green I was like, oh I bet pink would look nice. Then I counted the repeats and was like oh it would work to alternate pink and white flowers ... OH it would work to alternate THREE colors of flowers! So that just fell into place.
This is using this tutorial on Youtube, but starting with a repetition of 25 instead of 31. And crocheting the base "loop" for the flowers in-line, but not the flower petals until the row is done, then going back with different colors to make the petals.
Phone camera + indoor lighting + "auto correct" = colors all over the place
My girl here is a 1/4 Limhwa ForYou borrowing the newer Eosdoll body, wearing a dress by @dollsahoy 💙
I've debated heavily on how to do Symphanee Midnight's doll from Off White because there is no way I can do an encased skull in clear vinyl and have the hair be rooted on top, as well as have a Monster High doll body be made of transparent plastic.
So I figured I think about taking the concept of a ghost with a skull inside, and extrapolating that into a ghost that can't remain fully incorporeal, but rather has troubles with her skeleton remaining visible.
I decided to use my spare Haunted Spectra with her hair cut as I liked that it was a step removed from my default Spectra doll and experimented with fully painting skull makeup on first. I then used several layers of Mr Hobby Pearl White spray to layer on top of the paint so it adds this nice depth to the skull paint. In some lighting the lines get reflected more, but in others it is near invisible. Not as cool as a fully formed skull but it got the general idea across.
As for her paint, while I appreciate the different makeup style idea, I really didn't like how it was executed so I just mirrored one of the eye designs for both eyes.
the shades of skull paint are so good & subtle
I really like the teeth outlines

Hey i’m a fashion design student so i have tons and tons of pdfs and docs with basic sewing techniques, pattern how-tos, and resources for fabric and trims. I’ve compiled it all into a shareable folder for anyone who wants to look into sewing and making their own clothing. I’ll be adding to this folder whenever i come across new resources
