@my-eindride
one of these things is not like the others
Irony 1:
Tyler Robinson said he did it because he felt that there was too much hate and the differences couldn't be negotiated out.
So the response is to threaten the NGOs that support Democratic causes with antiterrorism laws and removal of tax exmpt status (something they already tried to do with the Big Beautiful Bill earlier this year but that failed due to public pressure), thus removing an avenue for applying peaceful public pressure and solving differences via negotiation.
Result: fewer things can be solved peacefully, more violence.
Irony 2:
Pam Bondi says the government will use the full force of the law to prosecute people who say negative things about Charlie Kirk on social media for "hate speech" and the right revolts.
"Hate speech is allowed by the first amendment!!!" They shout.
She should have used a different word, the right wing has been defending their right to be hateful for years.
....
When Trump was elected, I observed to my mother that it was like everyone had just forgotten how divided the country was under his first term, how much political violence there was.
"I think people just got tired of it" she said.
"No, the Biden administration made a point of cutting off funding, especially Russian funding, and prosecuting influencers who took that money to sow division" I said.
"And they leaned on social media companies to regulate their platforms" I added.
"Also, they gave funding to police departments for de-escalation and de radicalization efforts" I said.
Well, here we are under Trump again, and everyone working in domestic counterrorism or monitoring foreign malign influence at the FBI or Pentagon has either been fired or reassigned to immigration, and all of the funding for de-escalation and deradicalization has been clawed back.
And now the polarization and calls to violence are back again, with a vengeance, egged on by people at the highest levels of power... particularly Stephen Miller and JD Vance, who aren't just calling for war but holy war. While at the same time Peter Theil lectures silicon valley elites about the political usefulness of invoking the Antichrist to create an enemy and consolidate your own power.
Some things can't be negotiated out.
I think people just got sick of it.
“Once we label our adversaries in these cosmic terms—all good versus all evil—there's now going to be no compromise,” says Dr. Fuller. “No rational discourse is possible, because the Antichrist is a deceiver, so all the arguments that might be brought for the worth of an opposing point of view are ‘deception.’ And so there can be no rational compromise. It only will bring out all-out tribal cohesion, tribal loyalty, unquestioning commitment. And so it usually leads to...sometimes violent consequences.”
...
More violence:
he new defense bill allows guns-for-hire at the border. More people should be worried about what happens when you allow a mercenary army into this country. Donald Trump wasn't able to use the national guard as his private army so this will be the obvious next step.
Democracy is the only way out of this, but MAGA have to see it that way too. My MAGA father in law told me recently he thinks Russia, China and "the Middle East" are increasing division in the country and he only wants a better world for his grandchildren.
The day after Charlie Kirk was shot there were bomb threats against the DNC and eight historically black colleges and universities. Yesterday two students at HBCUs were found hanging from trees on campus. The bomb threats remind me of Russian bomb threats against polling places in democratic areas in 2024. But the looks-like-lynchings strike me as probably home grown.
As Hankyoreh, a South Korean leftist newspaper, observed in an opinion piece yesterday "The sight of our workers being led out in chains resembles images of African slaves in the 18th and 19th centuries being dragged out by their owners."
...
None of it looks good, the people at the very top want conflict, want violence. They are encouraging violence while removing tools to prevent violence.
Anyway, think about attending a protest. Do it now while we still can! Millions of people have been protesting peacefully every other weekend for the last six months. Odds are your local protest will be peaceful too. There are many more of us than there are of them.

Literally any other colour would’ve been a better choice guys.
I’d like to point out that the colour red has more positive than negative meanings.
im sorry but this reply absolutely killed me
red can mean whatever the heck you want it to mean, that is never going to change that this straight up looks like they DRAGGED A BLOODY BODY ACROSS THE FUCKING FLOOR 😂
Hi fun fact, colors do have meaning and there is a legit thing called color theory. Red does has more positive connotations than negative like the @mintymaiden said. Red is associated with more love, lust, passion than blood and death just like the chart shows you but If you want, here’s a link for you to check it out yourself. Also, check out “The Designer’s Dictionary of Color” by Sean Adams. Have fun learning something

What isColor Theory? Color theory is a term used to describe the collection of rules and guidelines regarding the use of color in art and de
I think y’all are missing the point here.
You can theorize to Nebraska and back but that doesn’t change my immediate reaction which is that someone is literally dragging a corpse around
I like that the presumption here is that “No One On Tumblr Has Heard of Color Theory, Let Me Explain in Depth” rather than simply acknowledging that the VISUAL EFFECTS of this particular color choice, applied in the manner it was, can still amount to “this is a hospital and that looks like blood”
like, color theory doesn’t exist in a vacuum. If your design of choice for Blood Red Paint is asymmetric splatters and sploches against the wall, or in this case, a snail trail on the hallway’s floor, an infographic won’t override the viewers’ instinct.
this post is the perfect summation of tumblr’s reading comprehension and critical thought abilities

Please use these terms correctly. Not doing so will deeply harm the people who actually have experienced trauma, gaslighting, triggers, and people who have NPD.
I don’t mean to be rude; but I don’t think I’ve ever seen this, does anyone have any examples?
Supernatural
Doctor Who (Steven Moffat specifically)
Sherlock (Steven Moffat specifically)
Actually Steven Moffat is basically just this sentiment given human form.
A version of this happened with The Magicians, tbh. Though instead of expectation: men, reality: women it was expectation: smug nihilists, reality: mentally ill queer folks.
Arguably Game of Thrones.
If we broaden it outside of television…I think Star Wars falls into this, at least the sequel trilogy. Maybe the MCU as well. And I can’t help but think of every band that’s ever complained that their fanbase is mostly women. 5 Seconds of Summer comes immediately to mind.
In general, most white male creators seem to have this massively entitled mindset where they want–and think they deserve–the time, attention, and enthusiasm that creative fandom (i.e. the side of fandom more dominated by women) is known for.
They want our eyes for ratings, our word-of-mouth for free publicity, our metas for social media buzz, and our spending power for merch and cons. But they don’t want us. And they don’t really want the responsibility of telling a story to a thoughtful, engaged audience, regardless of that audience’s demographic makeup. They just want to be praised for whatever schlock they cough up.
And like any other spoiled brat, they will break their toys before they share them.
It goes all the way to the top for kids shows. Toy sales will crash a show. Makes sense, but if those toys are gendered for boys instead of the female viewers, they won’t usually switch up the marketing and move them to the girl aisle. They cancel the show outright.
Mind you it is perfectly possible to make the switch in marketing, but execs would rather throw it all out than have something that doesn’t perform well with male viewers. For example the Rey merch was not expected to be popular, for some reason, there had to be public outcry to get merch of one of the main 3 protagonists. A PROTAGONIST. The fact that she wasn’t a huge part of the 1st launch says a lot already.
And what happened when female fans got too invested in the Sequel Trilogy? The entire writers room didn’t necessarily lash out, but they sure forgot how to behave.

The older, male generation of 'Star Wars' fans may be losing interest in the franchise, but female fans are stepping up.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker was designed to be the opposite of The Last Jedi
You’re all sitting on the hot take of the decade tbh
And yet when they fond out that boys were watching MLP:FIM in droves, they had NO PROBLEM with it.
#SONS OF ANARCHY!!!!!!!!!!!!!#LITERALLY SONS OF ANARCHY IS THE BIGGEST EXAMPLE OF THIS LIKE EVER#kurt sutter wrote that show for MEN and ended up with an overwhelmingly female audience#because he’s actually a good writer and knows how to develop characters well and wrote excellent female characters#but once he realized that his audience was almost entirely women he literally took it out on tara and gemma in the show#but like tara specifically#he resented her character for being a huge draw for female viewers so he tore her development to shreds and killed her#in the most brutal gut wrenching way possible#kurt sutter you will pay for your crimes#i actually wrote a manifesto about this on one of my old blogs i should try to find it sldkjsldfjsdljf#long post (via@m-oonknight)
OMG YES. I LOVED Sons of Anarchy, especially the women and then I got to season 6 and it was like - everything was just tossed in the trash? And like, why did Sutter hate that Tara drew tons of attention? That should have been a good thing! He should have been like “Hey folks, this girl’s getting us more viewers, let’s put her in more scenes!” It just doesn’t make sense to me. MEN don’t make sense to me.
The 100 too. I’ll never forget how Jason Rothenberg would attacked female fans on Twitter and mock them in interviews, and then post links to male fan discussions on Reddit to praise and thank them. In his goodbye letter to the show he SPECIFICALLY thanked Reddit and it was so disgusting.
Star Trek from TNG on was also a boy’s club, even though the TOS fans were mostly women. Women, in fact, who literally created modern fandom with their zines. But after TNG it was all, “Women don’t understand Star Trek, only smart men hur dur.”
I think it would be harder for us to find examples of when this DIDNT happen than when it did. It happens all the time.
Doesn’t stop it from boggling the mind
(though it could probably start to make some sense if you follow the money past audience bases to maybe a couple of investors or like a rich patron … 🤔)
Stooooop I just wrote a masters thesis on this shit. Media creation and distribution is a means by which dominant power structures consolidate their hegemony. Dominantly situated creators get upset when the audience they attract isn’t the audience they wanted, because they view the whole creation and sharing of the fiction as an exercise to sustain kyriarchal conditions that benefit themselves. When the audience is Other, they see it as a failure of those efforts and lash out.
Simply, they’re trying to assert a particular worldview via fiction, and upon getting confronted with something else, begin foot stamping. It’s not just men wanting male attention and gatekeeping. It’s that the fiction in the first place was an attempt to curate dominance and whoopsie! they miscalculated.
(anyway if anyone wants to read 35k words of philosophy about this, hmu)
I think a lot about an interview I heard with Bo Burnham a few years ago, where he talks about this phenomenon with his own work. He gained a large audience of teenage girls, and people in comedy spaces would look down on him for that or say what a shame it was, but he responded differently:
“The real truth is, I would perform my show and I would meet kids after and young girls would come up to me and they understood what I was expressing in that bit onstage way more than guys my own age. Way more. So if there was a bridge between us that I had to cross to write the movie [Eighth Grade], it was built to me by them. I felt understood by them before I presumed to understand them.”
Instead of trying to change his comedy, he decided to lean into and celebrate the audience that he actually had by making a movie specifically about the experiences of a teenage girl. It’s fascinating to hear him talk about how he got there, but also to acknowledge how rare that reaction is.
We all have one name come to mind reading this, don’t we?
Blocking specific works or works by Anon authors on AO3:
The muting and blocking functions recently introduced on AO3 are good and vital, but sometimes you don't want to mute an author's entire catalogue of works - you just want to stop looking at a particular work or three every time you go in the tag. And sometimes trolls will spitefully put their work into Anonymous collections specifically to circumvent people being able to block/mute them.
Luckily, the old method of muting authors - Site Skins - also works for individual fanworks! This is a more targeted method than trying to exclude tags in the filter, and more efficient/reliable because it will always work as long as you're logged in - no more needing to bookmark long filter URL strings and then getting burned when you forget to access the tag page through the bookmark.
On your Dashboard, go to "Skins" in the sidebar menu.
Click "Create Site Skin." (You can see that I've already got a skin active on my profile.)
Give your Site Skin a descriptive name that will remind you of what the purpose of the skin is or what the skin contains. Feel free to elaborate further in the Description field. You can even upload an icon for the skin if that would be helpful for identifying it in your Site Skins list.
Then, in the CSS field, enter this code:
.work-XXXXXXXX { display: none !important; }
Next, we are going to replace the XXXXXXXX part with a unique identifier assigned to each fanwork on AO3.
Open another tab/window and go to a fic that you want to mute. Look in the URL bar. It should look something like this:
https://archiveofourown.org/works/43588455
or like this if it's chaptered:
https://archiveofourown.org/works/17172854/chapters/40376879
The string of numbers that comes immediately after /works/ is the unique identifier that you want (I've bolded them in the examples above).
Ignore the numbers that come after /chapters/.
Highlight and copy the unique identifier. Go back to the Edit Site Skin tab/window and replace the XXXXXXXX in the code with the unique identifier you've copied.
Scroll down and click "Submit." You're done!
To mute more than one fanwork, you just have to add more lines for more works to the CSS code in your Site Skin:
.work-XXXXXXXX, .work-XXXXXXXX, .work-XXXXXXXX { display: none !important; }
Note: This method does not prevent you from seeing the fanwork if you go to that fanwork by entering its URL directly into the URL bar. It does remove it from any page on AO3 that pulls fanworks into a list of fanworks - like pages for tags, search results, author profiles and works pages, bookmark lists, etc.
Note 2: You must be logged into your account for the Site Skin to work. And the Skin does not affect anybody else's browsing experience, just yours.
Go forth and curate!
Someone in my neighborhood
has given thier child
an airhorn.
why.
Update: It is not, in fact, the Richards, who don’t actually have the surname Richard, that’s just the name of the eldest boy that I hear screamed over the fence all the time. Richard is probably nine, maybe 10 and his younger borthers are twins of seven becuase I happened to run into them on thier birthday. They pointedly refused to tell me thier names, instead giggling ominously after I introduced myself and running away. This is the gang of boys that I’ve had to stop from torturing small animals on more than one occasion, and whose mother is the one that gets crying-drunk on the front porch late at night.
Lovely family.
Around this time last year thier grandmother came to visit and gave them honest-to-goodness home-made black-powder Cherry bombs direct from Texas, which the boys immediately took to the most flammable patch of chaparral in the neighborhood and set off six of them at once, resulting in a small wildfire, seven emergency response units and a helicopter, a Long Stern talk from the fire department and Karen getting in a screaming match with Child Protective Services and a sizeable crater in the middle of the field.
At least according to Olivia the ER nurse and neighborhood gossip. I was out of town at the time and believe about 80% of that becuase I saw the crater where there had not been a crater a week before, and becuase karen threw a shoe at me the one time I asked if she was alright when she was having her weekly drunk-cry on the porch.
But I Digress.
The Airhorn in fact belongs to one of the ladies at the Old Folks Home. Diane is very excited about the upcoming NBA playoffs and was having a bit of a pre-celebration in the park with her family and hadn’t realized the noise would carry. She’s rooting for Golden State becuase that’s where her grandson goes.
We gon need more stories on that crazy ass family
I don’t have more stories about the Richards specifically, but now that I’ve moved out of that Extremely Strange Neighborhood, I feel free to relate some more of the Wierd Shit that went on there. Some anwers to commonly asked questions:
1. It’s been pointed out to me that Golden State is an NBA franchise and not an institution of higher learning. To be fair, Diane is 84 and in an Alzheimer’s unit, and I know fuck all about sportsball. Perhaps her grandson lives in San Francisco. Regardless, we all had a good time and I was sent home with leftover bean dip.
2. I sometimes misspell things becuase I have multiple learning/reading disorders and Public Education in the US is terrible. I’m funny anyway.
3. Last I heard, Richard had gone to live with the other, less pyrotastic set of grandparents, so maybe there is hope for them yet.
(As always, all names have been changed to protect people’s privacy):
The neighborhood consists of a 206 pallette-swapped versions of the same three houses surrounding the largest hospital in the next six counties in any direction, surrounded immediately by three ranches on one side and roughly 100 miles of uninterrupted rocky mountain wildreness on the other. It’s seperated from the main city (If you can call a city with only the bars and Denny’s open after 9PM a city. Which you can’t) by a large mountain ridge and connected via a small canyon highway. Hence, the neighborhood consists primarily of:
Middle-Class Suburban White People ™
People who’d be too poor to afford this neighborhood normally, but are subsidized by the hospital. Olivia the ER nurse, for instance. They’re terrific.
People with Major Medical Conditions and Their familes, who live nearby, also subsidized by The Hospital.
Old Rural People who remember when Durango had only the train track and no paved roads and was mostly populated by cattle and will tell you they were present at the Alamo if you let them keep talking.
Wildlife that was here first and has no intention of moving.
This is a story about the first learning about the last.
Staci-With-An-I-From-Ventura-California introduced herself to me as that while I was walking the dog by the playground, as I tried to keep her preschooler twins (there are SO MANY goddamn twins in the neighborhood. I mean, we’re right next door to an IVF clinic BUT STILL) from jamming thier fingers up Charlie’s nose but fortunately he thinks children are hilarous and decided to lick what I sincerely hoped was jam off thier faces.
“Hi I’m [Gallus]. Hey, kids, be gentle with dogs-”
“Do you live here?” She asks in what I would find out later is her normal interrogative voice, but sounded to my untrained ear like a member of the spanish inquisition had reccived operatic training then took up chain smoking.
“Yeah?”

"look at what the groomer did to my dog!!!" posts are funny because like 75% of the time it's obvious the groomer had to cut it really short because the dog was matted to all hell but the other 25%....
the other 25% of the time it's shit like this
