The trios of Mamma Mia! and Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again
i watched love simon at last today and so in light of that, here is a list of things that are now officially gay culture (feel free to add to it):
- oreoes
- sunny afternoon by the kinks
- iced tea
- “i like your boots”
- ferris wheels
Love Simon is the movie we deserve. It makes my heart so happy. Everything about the movie is awesome but here’s just a list of things that stand out:
- ‘you can exhale now Simon’
- simon’s father being upset for missing that his son is gay and apologizing for all the jokes
- how hard it is to first say the words ‘I’m gay’
- how sometimes it’s easier to tell people you don’t know compared to people you’ve known forever
- how upset Simon was when Martin outed him because it’s ‘his story’
- the gay dance college scene
- seeing a same sex kiss on the big screen
- cheering when blue showed up at the Ferris wheel because ‘everyone deserves a great love story’
To straight people, this movie might not seem like a big deal. But as someone who identifies as gay, it is a huge deal. Love Simon is the movie I wished I had growing up, and glad we have now. It is inspiring people everywhere to come out and live their truest self.
Representation matters. And if you feel it doesn’t, it’s because you have always been represented.
