I get that it might seem like an exaggeration to people who haven’t watched the cons or the show (because, fun fact: 90% of Wincest fans support the relationship between Sam and Dean solely based on how Jared and Jensen play their roles. I mean, I highly doubt the script actually says Dean should check out Sam’s butt, or that Sam should stare at Dean’s lips, or that they should have such emotional and tender interactions, or look at each other the way they do... Anyway, there are so many sweet moments between them in gag reels too, and honestly, it’s just a bit... weird for “just friends” to act that way. But okay, fine.)
I mean, at every con, they act like they’re in a relationship. I decided to write this after watching the latest con, and seriously now — how would you even know what your best friend does in the morning? And it’s always something like, “Say that, it’s funny!” or “Should I say this?” and then they look at each other for permission to share a story that doesn’t even involve the other one! Like... seriously now. And whenever one of them talks about something he did alone, or with his kids, the other one will nod, or chime in, or even answer for him! (Like, if he didn’t know and wasn’t there, he wouldn’t be able to say anything, right?). Honestly, if you watch them closely — or even not that closely — it’s so easy to see they’re like a couple! (And they love complimenting each other too, and they’re just totally adorable.)
P.S. To prove my point, I showed the latest con to a friend (who knows nothing about SPN or the actors), and he said: “So this is like a podcast with two husbands talking about their life?”I burst out laughing when I heard that.
I am being completely honest with you, I don't understand it either! It's just that they buy into the image that is sold, that of just best friends/brothers. Obviously, they are much more than best friends and family. I believe that nowadays it’s even worse; people believe everything they are told and everything they see, they don’t question anything. They think that what is shown on social media is 100% real, and they don’t understand that MANY times, people only show what they want to show. So they think that if they don’t see photos of certain people together on the internet, it’s because they are never together; they think that if people don’t post everything they do online, it’s because they don’t do anything, etc. And in the world of acting (or commercial music) there is an underlying purpose, PR (for individual image or the project, personal prestige, in the professional field. For example, the relationship of J2 with Mishit, or JA with Starr, etc.) and some are also interested in protecting their private lives (J2). Even if it all sounds obvious!

Well (although it sounds obvious), it’s what J2, the beards, Mishit, other colleagues, and other people in their circle have been trying to 'indoctrinate' (and help, whether for profit or affection) since 2004, so that J2 can have a private life and job proposals.
They probably also think that all the strange things J2 does between them is simply because that's just who they are. They tell themselves, these are just their jokes, they are just that weird with each other, they're men, it's normal, everyone does the same thing, like a fraternity, etc. And that’s how they wash their hands when they see something that goes beyond the standards of friends/brothers. And that’s what J2 tries to convince with passion (and they do it for a good reason!). It's just that you also can't (or sometimes don't want to) control everything you say or do over such a period of time. We know there's fan service involved, but I think those moments are when they act like themselves and take advantage of it.
It seems that those who were just stepping onto the SPN set were warned that if they saw strange behaviors with J2, they shouldn't be surprised. If it was just jokes, or the interaction was only between close friends, why would they be warned beforehand? It seemed more like a way to clarify things before they assumed anything. (For example, JP bringing spoonfuls of dessert to JA's mouth? JA being obsessive-compulsive about JP's butt?)
In the gag reels, they have shown many incriminating things (so to speak), but since they are gag reels, they were automatically considered to be for fun and thus were dismissed as evidence that they are a couple.
For example: JP's caresses on JA's neck and ear, in one of Season 1 it seemed to me that JA was holding JP's hand while they were going up some stairs, and in one of the latest seasons it also seemed that way, in a scene in a supermarket (I don't know if I was going crazy lol, but at first it seemed like they were holding hands and then it reappeared edited? Although I’m not sure about this last gag reel), once JP was lying on the floor and stuck out his tongue, when JA leaned in to "lick" his face, wasn't the video cut off?, etc.
And who knows everything they didn't show us 😁.
How many from the spn cast have been banned at conventions for airing controversial information about J2? Because a couple come to mind. It happened when they said things about J2 that implied they were together.
I completely agree with you that at conventions, even today, they act like a couple, like an old married couple. And how many times does it seem like they are in their own bubble, unaware that they have an audience around them?
It is also true that many times when one tells a story, the other nods or tries to remember or even makes strange faces as if they didn't remember it or not exactly as it is being told, or expresses some kind of emotion. I even recall cases where they tell a story from # perspectives that complement each other (for example, around the beginning of 2023 or the beginning of 2024, when JA had the mustache, and they told a story about JA and SP), etc. And as you know, they also know many private things about each other that one wouldn't even mention to their best friend. But they are always looking out for each other, boosting each other’s spirits, making sure of each other’s well-being, and defending each other, etc. (even subtly).
JP once said that with his friends they didn't tell each other that they loved each other (he said he didn't even say it to GC) and they would insult each other jokingly. But I don't see that with JA… with him he either tells or subtly indicates with his finger that he loves him, and he compliments him. He doesn't compliment GC, he backhandedly compliments her haha, I mean that for the audience present, you start with a compliment (as far as I've seen, he rarely does it. What I usually see is what GC's fans post, and if I don't see more than that, it means there's nothing more than that.) and then he reverses it. But how he acts with JA is completely different from how we see (and how he says) he acts with his friends.

Haha your friend understood everything! Those who are outside the fandom often see it more clearly than those of us who are inside! No filter, they don't know anything about their lives, just by watching them, they already sense it.
