We all have our favorites and/or LEAST favorite ships, but that doesn't mean you get to make it into a complete hate-train just because you don't like it. My rules: BE MATURE. So apparently Hagakure WASN’T the traitor? It was Aoyama ONLY, and the only reason she even got pulled into the mix was because she was the one to discover Yuga’s secret? Huh. Well, I’ll be damned.
A strong gust of pressure had thrust Deku’s body into the air. The back of his head made a crunching noise as it collides with something concrete. Black and blue speckles across the blurring city. His ears begin to pop again and again as a frosty wind bursts past him. He’s spiraling down further and further, and just when he begins to see red, finally, he sees nothing.
That’s what Deku remembers.
And it’s been hours. Maybe. Well, that’s what it feels like it’s been. At some point, he finds himself sitting up further. His eyes are closed, so he opens them. He sees nothing, and so he closes them, and opens them again. There is only darkness. Where is he? Stuck in some rubble?
Deku couldn’t possibly remember who in the hell he was fighting that put him out of commission so badly, but despite how dizzy he was and the way his feet felt like they were losing their respective place on the spinning floor, he knows he has to pull it together.
Feeling around, his hands begin to rub something cool and smooth. Likely, the walls. Yet, it wasn’t soon before Deku realizes that he can’t feel any splits in the walls. Like... where’s the door? Or at least a light switch?
With not much other choice, he sits on the floor. His resolve hasn’t necessarily been found, but frankly, his eyes were as droopy as the weight of fatigue on his body. Most movement stretches his torn muscles in such a way that makes him uncomfortable, and pains him regardless of his attempt to go easy on himself. He’s so worn... Deku yawns and rubs his eyes. Hell, the boy’s sleepy and could use a nice, comfy(?) hospital bed right about now.
Then, there’s a stripe of white. Or, more like a stripe of light.
Deku watches the light to see if he’ll catch any movement. Seeing nothing, and deciding it is probably about time he gets the hell out of this small pit of darkness, he pats the black space around the light. A noise makes him realize that there’s definitely a space in the wall somewhere around there. If only he had more light.
A strong push shoves a square piece of wall out into a bright hall. Thus, begins the journey of walking the same bright, white and bland halls. It wasn’t long at all before Deku grew restless. Everywhere was the same. Every left and right turn eventually brought him to a real familiar dead end, where the only options was left or right. At some point, Deku decides to take a right at every given opportunity. Surely, this strict path has to lead him to somewhere, right?
His, albeit waning, patience had done him good: for after another right turn, the bland pale halls became somewhat blue. They were blue now. “How... exciting?” Deku mumbles. As he continues and the halls get bluer, he gets anxious. Should he have went left instead? What if this direction was leading him to something dangerous? For whatever reason, his quirk seems very weak here --not gone, thankfully, but immensely weak! Should he be doing this?
...Well... Curiosity killed the cat, but satisfaction brought it back; he had to get out of here somehow, you know?
There is a soft, ambient music. It sounds like some sort of generic pop, but for whatever reason, he can’t make out the lyrics at all. It sounds so strange... as if some sort of Japanese is being spoken, but not really? How does this music sound both Japanese and non-Japanese all at the same time? It is as if it’s being sung in all the languages of the world at the same time, yet also is nothing more than gibberish. No matter however closer Deku thinks he gets, the music doesn’t sound any closer.
The bluish hue grows more purple, then pink, then orange. He begins to hear a small clinking sound, like moving porcelain. It’s just barely louder than the music. It smells like pastries, and Deku’s mouth begins to water. Maybe he is a bit hungry? He fondles with his jacket, not feeling so sure of what to expect.
Somehow, he ends up in what seems to be a food court. Was he in a mall the whole time? Some mysterious, forgotten shopping center lost in the rubble of Musutafu? Though, having been the only sign of life for all this time, Deku’s gaze is immediately drawn to a dark figure in his peripheral. He looks and sees a woman sat at a table in the middle of the room. She has a platter of tea in front of her, no pastries in sight despite the aroma. Notably, and much to Deku’s discomfort, even from all the way across the room he can feel her eyes set on him directly.
Deku is wary but approaches her. For some reason, he gets the suspicion that she was waiting on him. But that’s ridiculous, as there’s just no way that could ne the case. Knowing this to reassure himself, Deku decides to ask her some questions. She might have the information he’s looking for.
Her glinting fuchsia eyes pierce into him, betraying the warm smile that he receives.
“Hello there, child. Are you alright? You seem to be having doubts.” Her voice caresses Deku, and he thinks of velvet.
“Yes, um...” This is weird, this is really weird. What the hell is going on here?
“I guess I’ve been... super lost. Would you, or, do you know where we are? What’s going on?” Deku fiddles with his scarf. Suddenly aware of the knitting wrapped snugly around his neck, he wonders why he’s wearing it. Thinking about it now, it’s not exactly cold in this place. Deku focuses on the woman again, who is still sitting comfortably in her seat. Her legs fold over each other, and it is when her large, dark shawl glides across her knees to drape around her ankles that the young boy notices her clothing. She seems to be wearing something orange and short --either a skirt or a dress, as it stops high on her legs. But that cloak --that draping, opaque shawl seems to envelope her whole. Is she hot in that? Or, perhaps she is cold, and that’s why she’s wearing it in the first place?
“If it’s not too much trouble to ask,” Deku stutters, “Who are you?”
The woman continues to smile, and politely replies, “Why don’t you call me LaDonna? And you are?”
“... Izuku Midoriya.”
““Izuku Midoriya”, what a fine name. It’s a pleasure to have met you, dear. In fact,” LaDonna pours tea into a spare cup. She pushes it towards Deku. “Take a seat. Should I call you Izuku or Midoriya?” Deku musters up the best little grin he can give despite his overall confusion. “Call me “Midoriya”, please...” Obediently, he sits with LaDonna. Her stare never quite wavers, trailing him strangely. Like a lioness and a gazelle. Or, a gazelle sizing up a lion. “So, about this place...” Midoriya probes at her a little, wanting to get his answers as soon as possible. LaDonna nods, and shifts ever so slightly. Leaning into her hand further, she mindlessly taps at the teacup in front of her. The steam rises and splits apart upon hitting the tilt of her sunhat. The steam then dances into the air, evaporating away. She doesn’t make any move to drink the clearly full cup, and so Midoriya does the same. “I plan to tell you whatever I can. Conversely, whatever I know.” Midoriya nods. “You know, “Izuku Midoriya”,” Her cheeks push into her eyes, crow’s feet appearing on the sides of her face. A genuine smile! She went from looking very youthful to more mature. Midoriya wonders how old she is?
“It’s wonderful how fate has brought us together.”
There's an au where Twice didn't die and instead become a pro-hero, and he and Momo are mentor and student because Twice quirk is all about replicating and Momo's quirk is all about creating.
And it'd be so funny because Momo is the mind of the team but Twice is the one who can duplicate stuff with an amazing range. It'd be the typical "my student is more smart than I am but I still have things to teach her!"
Also I think Twice would be the type to insist in someone giving a better suit to Momo and he himself would create a million Momo models to try different suits.
They are like, super lethal together because Twice can duplicate whatever Momo creates, so she doesn't have to create that much. And Twice, because he's an absolute sweetheart, would hype Momo so much and help her become more confident.
And it’s Hagakure!!! The most obvious culprit ever, LOL.
Now that we all know, I’m honestly just really curious as to what the hell her reasoning is. Everyone's already talkin’ bout some: “Oh, she’s [Hagakure’s] gonna be all like “I was invisible to everybody” and “no one noticed me... but the LOV did!!” or “... but AFO did!!”
Which on that note, it’s a little weird to me how this MORE THAN GROWN grown ass man, AFO, is apparently “friends” with this itty bitty 15 or 16 year old girl lol

My Hero Academia but make it... WEIRDCORE? DREAMCORE?
Anyway, the woman above is my OC, LaDonna. I have absolutely no idea what I want to do with her to be honest --and that’s literally what spurred me into making a little weirdcore/dreamcore BNHA au; she’s a character that’s been in my head for literally months, like I DO have a whole ass backstory and relationship log and set of special abilities, etc, all made up for her!! (I blame my maladaptive daydreaming for that though, LOL) ... Like, she literally has everything necessary I think to be a fully fledged OC with a small fanfic to go behind it... but at the same time, I just can’t help but instantly lose a large sense of attachment to her as soon as I try to bring her story in my head into physical fruition!! I don’t know what it is, it’s like... IDK, a large part of me I guess is trying to convince myself to keep her all to myself. Probably because the MHA faniverse is already full of so many damn OCs with wacky and/or wickedly strong asf quirks that it’s just like... there’s literally no need to contribute to that shit, LOL. Especially when MHA is actually in its final stages of the story anyway (like, SLIGHT SPOILERS --- we literally just got introduced to the U.A. traitor (that we all thought was a hoax of a subplot at some point, LOL) --this manga is DEF getting ready to come to an end!) ... IDK, all I know is despite that, I made a little something, something with the character LaDonna anyway.
In this seemingly random ass scene, Deku realizes he’s in a strange world, and upon seeing the first (human) face since being stuck in that dimension, he can’t help but immediately ask the questions that need to be asked!!
But will LaDonna answer him? And will she answer him honestly?
A foot kicks a large, tightly bundled thing down a hill. It rolls into a stream and sinks.
Another name gets knocked off the list! But, as the ground begins to shake, an incoming message arrives!
The infamous U.A. Prodigies are coming in to save the day as the Villain Hunt of Musutafu continues!
Though, this mysterious woman knows how to blend in, despite how much she stands out… but will she remain off of Deku’s radar for long?
This is a premise of temperance and the tale of enlightenment; in the matters of work done from the shadow and heroic work done in the limelight —what academia could be taught to young hero Deku without the reigns of U.A.?
Before I get eaten alive, let me start by saying that there is nothing inherently wrong with Uraraka, per se, and there’s nothing wrong with other people liking her. I just feel that as a female lead character she’s sort of bland. About the only traits of interest with her is that she’s a hero in training for the money, and she has a competitive streak that only rarely comes out to play. Aside from those two things, she doesn’t really have any other traits that make her stand out from any other generic female love interest character. She’s generally nice and sweet but that’s about it. We’re allowed to know and understand other characters better.
Compare Uraraka to say Midoriya, Iida, and Bakugo. These boys make up a part of what could be considered the “main cast” of characters, and with all of them, you have a very strong idea not only of who they are, but why they are that way. Midoriya is so kind and sweet because he knows how awful unkind words and actions can hurt, and he chooses to keep trying no matter how much he fails. That optimistic outlook is what makes him compelling. But then we also know that he’s a total fanboy, studious, analytical, he mutters to himself. These are character quirks that make him more distinguished from other characters. Iida is a strict, rule-abiding, and serious person. He looks up to and idolizes his big brother, and when that pillar of respect and admiration was tarnished by Stain, we saw Iida completely break character as he spiraled down a dark path. If you pay attention to Bakugo, you can start to piece together why he’s always so angry as his frustrations of no longer being the biggest fish in a small pond, especially once it’s clear that a big part of his bad attitude about strength and winning he learned from his possibly (and unintentionally) abusive mother. These are all strong characters with magnetizing and compelling personalities and backstories. We know their inner thoughts and the demons that rummage through their heads. We know where they’re weak and what they need to improve upon. But when we look at Uraraka, there’s not much else to unpack. She has a competitive streak that we don’t really know where she gets it from, and she wants money to support her family, but we’re not really shown explicitly why she has such a strong bond to her family.
Now some may be saying “Well what’s wrong with being nice?” and the easy answer is, nothing. There are some great characters whose primary character trait is kindness. But There are ways of writing these characters that don’t feel so flat.
Katara
Avatar: The Last Airbender
On the surface, Katara is a lot like Uraraka. She’s generally sweet, kind, and helpful. She is a mom type friend who takes care of others and usually follows her heart. So is the difference that Katara is just a better fighter? No, not at all. The reason Katara is better written is because she’s flawed. She can be selfish, bossy, stubborn, and proud. She was allowed to have multiple dimensions. She got angry, she had bad moods. She could go from sweet to threatening in a snap if she needed to, and she wasn’t just cute. She was clever. She was allowed to be more complex than just “the nice girl”, and that made her far more relatable and likable. In fact, some of the darkest moments come from Katara. In the episode “the Southern Raiders”, Katara becomes obsessed with tracking down the man who killed her mother. While interogating a man, she uses bloodbending for the first and only time since learning it from Hama to torture information out of a sea captain. Even though she doesn’t end up taking her revenge out on him, she also never forgives the man for what he did. She will always hate him, but she decides not to waste her time hurting him. The only real flaw in Uraraka is that she gets aggressive when she’s in a competitive spirit, which is more of a character trait than an actual flaw.
Steven Universe
Steven Universe
The entire show of Steven Universe is centered around the emotional and mental growth of Steven. And while he’s matured into a more responsible and take charge person, he has done so while maintaining his core character traits of kindness, compassion, and sensitivity. However, this doesn’t stand in the way of giving his character a deeply dark emotional patchwork of problems and internalized issues to work through. Steven is a compelling character because despite everything he’s been through, he continues to find a reason to smile, he continues to look for a more merciful path, and he tries to reach out to help everyone he can. Uraraka doesn’t really have a story. She has a motivation, wanting to make enough money to support her parents, but that’s about all of the narrative development Uraraka has gotten.
Starfire
Teen Titans
Starfire served as the emotional core of her team. Whether it was resolving bickering, or suggesting group activities, Starfire was the glue holding the team together. In fact, there’s even an episode dedicated to showing that without Starfire, they all lost touch, stopped being friends, and ended up miserable and alone. But Starfire was a lot more than that as well. She was a constant source of comedy due to her fish out of water humor, and she was for more than just “the alien babe”. One of the best things about Starfire was just how expressive and enthusiastic she’d get every time she discovered something new about the Earth, or tried to introduce Tamaranean culture to her Earth friends. Her powers were fueled by emotions, and not just pleasant cutesy ones either. Her alien strength required boundless confidence, and her starbolts were fueled by righteous fury. Starfire was extremely reactive to the world around her. She had a great deal of emotional depth to her. In the simplest terms, Starfire was interesting. She was always saying something weird, or making unusual observations. The writers had a lot of fun with making her alien biology weird and even a little gross, but it never once detracted from the fact that she was Robin’s love interest, because he liked her regardless of those charming quirks. Next to her, Uraraka pales in comparison. We don’t know any of Uraraka’s interests or what excites her. We don’t know what she cares about or what embarrassing mistakes she’s made. There’s no attempt to really make her memorable or distinct. Uraraka is just treated as this pristine porcelain figuring completely devoid of blemishes or dents that could have a very charming story behind them.
I honestly wouldn’t really be able to list more than a small handful of personality traits, most of which are practically synonyms. She’s just kind of flat and perfect. It doesn’t really work to make her endearing. She lacks the flaws that would make her feel real, a role in the story that would allow her grow and mature, and there’s nothing about her that makes her memorable and endearing. If she wasn’t the main female lead, she’d probably be the most forgettable girl in the class. Froppy has a very distinct look, Momo has a presence in the plot, Ashido has a strong personality and recognized flaws in her bad grades, Jirou is a bit lowkey but has a distinct style that sets her apart, a love for music, and a good singing voice. Even Hagakure stands out because she’s invisible, which is a memorable character quirk. Of the five, Uraraka has the least reason to really stand out or be remembered. Maybe she’ll grow a stronger personality in later seasons, but as she is right now, Uraraka doesn’t really have much to offer as a character. But these are just my opinions, and if you like Uraraka you’re free to love her as much as you can muster. But as far as I’m concerned, these are my problems with her lack of character.

“Food’s good tonight. Did you try something new with the sauce?”
“Oh, you noticed, huh? Yeah, I thought I’d try somethin’ different, ya know? Switch it up!”
You could applaud these two for keeping their tones so casual, if the fact didn’t make you so disgusted, that is. It takes everything you have not to cringe when you happen to glance over to meet a pair of bright green eyes looking at you filled with adoration. “What do you think, babe? Thought I’d put some of yer favorite flavors in it! Ya like it?”
Another dinner, another forced bonding session. You just give Yamada a look of muted hatred, brows furrowed, eyes narrowed, not a sound leaving your mouth as you just look back down to your meal. A few more bites, just a few more bites, and you’d go back to your room, you tell yourself. God, even just sitting here with them was like some kind of fucked-up domestic torture. They didn’t deserve to hear you speak.
Hizashi doesn’t seem to take the hint, scooting his chair closer to yours from around the small circular dining table. “Aw, don’t be that way, sugar! I’m just tryna see whatcha like, since you’ve barely been eatin’ lately!”
You scowl, muttering under your breath. “Gee, I wonder why. Such a fucking mystery.”
Just like that, it’s quiet again, nothing but the occasional clink of silverware against the ceramic plates. The blonde pouts, unsure how to reply to your hostility, taking a moment to sip from his wine, shooting his partner a look from across the table while long slender fingers drum against the hard, wooden surface almost anxiously. Shouta finally clears his throat to break the silence.
“So,” The instructor begins while you’re mid-bite. “the next time you feel like playing locksmith, you should probably reconsider.”
There’s a noticeable tensing of your posture, and you have to clear your throat as your food seems to stick in your airway. “See, I was going to get something out of our lockbox the other day,” Scarlet liquid spins around in the wineglass as Aizawa swirls it casually. “and wouldn’t you know, someone thought it would be cute to try and get in it without the key, and wound up breaking the lock.” His dark eyes narrow at you. “So? Care to explain?”
