HR fic writers need to fucking stop making Ilya into this jealous abusive monster and then claiming that it's just because he's in love. No. NO. Love is not control.
No person in a relationship owns the other person, and book Ilya understands this. Fic Ilya often does...not.
A few tropes I've encountered that make me want to send all yall to a class on healthy relationships:
And that's the tip of the iceberg. Controlling to your partner (outside the bedroom) is not hot. Jealousy is not hot. Extreme possessiveness is not hot. They are abusive. Stop fucking making Ilya an abusive lunatic. It's not cool.
And do I even need to say that these tropes are pretty linked to Russophobia??? Cause they are, and that's not cute either.
I know it might sound petty, but I CANNOT read fanfics where the author doesn't use correct punctuation. I just can't. And I'm not talking about mistakes, that's fine, that happens, I mean that as soon as it becomes clear that the author doesn't know or just doesn't bother using correct punctuation, I'm out. Even if the story is terrific.
Example:
"Come here" he called. "I'm waiting for you"
"Yeah coming" he hurried into the other room. "What's wrong?"
"Nothing, I just missed you"
...
Nope. I'm hitting back right away. Wish I could look past it, but my brain just revolts. Am I weirdo? Dunno, but that's my brain.
I think Shane was a character who, soon as I read him, made all the sense to me. I felt immediately a kinship and an ownership over Shane. I was like, âI need to be the only person to tell this story. I get it. I want to be the person to be Shane and I want to spend time with him.â [x]
