A list of fics (as in fan fiction) that I enjoy reading and plan to revisit to re-read again. This list is like a bookmark + fic rec. As I move on from fanfics and on to the world of danmei, this list now includes danmei(s) that I love to read.

What to expect: MC is OP and levels up pretty fast. There's some face-slapping. Being a cultivation novel, there are fight scenes but it's not that detailed. People do die, usually those that the MC and friends / family fight.

MC travels to another world and starts "farming" (more like gets others to farm for him)... He meets ML there and as the story goes they travel to other worlds / realms.

MC starts off as a normal human but powers up / levels up as the story goes on. If you like a story where the character is OP and levels up (almost) effortlessly, try this.

This is a danmei and the MC is the seme / gong / top. It's an interesting read in some parts but it's long, over 1k chapters. At some parts I did get bored so I skipped some chapters. I would have liked it if there were more character development but perhaps that would have dragged the story on longer.

I think even if you're not a danmei fan, but like levelling up stories which are not very plot complex and kind of predictable, you try it. The BL part is not really a very strong focus (to me).

Random Thoughts on ABO Desire Drama

The ABO Desire series just finished and boy has it been a ride.

I like the drama. It made the 2D characters that I read from the book into 3D characters. And the book was really well adapted into the drama - not surprising as the authors (the Nong Jian sisters) were the ones that produced and directed the show.

I found myself watching the drama and then going back to the book to compare the contents and I was not disappointed.

The actors did a great job bringing the characters to life. They are talented and there were parts with great acting. I have to admit some parts were cringy - e.g. the fights between the S-tier Alphas... I also admire their bravery in acting in a BL because it can go quite badly for them - always a possibility of getting cancelled mainstream or just affected by it. The drama was initially supposed to be shown on WeTV, iQiyi and Youku got removed. (So upset! because I renewed my subscription just to watch the show).

I just hope that fans out there will realise that they are actors and NOT the actual characters. This is just me hoping because of what happened to the Untamed actors. The fandoms at one stage was sooooo toxic and the actors got dragged into it. IYKYK. Ship all you want but also be realistic - actors vs characters. Also don't hate on shippers or non-shippers.

Anyway, if anyone is interested in read the book, just search it up on novelupdates.

If you haven't watched the drama or heard of the book, some warnings - there's r@pe in it and it's not exactly a sweet romance story. Depends on your tolerance level, it can be quite dark.

But it can be darker... There's a fanfic on AO3 that depicted a darker AU.

Edit: Hua Yong calls Shen Shaoyou "Shen Xiansheng" and did you all know, in Chinese, this can be a way to call or address your husband. SO, in my mind when I hear "Shen Xiansheng", I'm hearing "husband"... hehehe. I didn't know if the actual character when written in Chinese matters or not, but as a banana that has very limited vocabulary and knowledge of the Chinese language, this is what is sounds to me!

Another story that is hilarious! MC Shi Wei transmigrated into a book where he is the cannon fodder that is married to the villain of the book.

Villain is the ML and hates the original MC because they were forced to marry.

ML started to be able to hear MC's thoughts and finds that MC's actions and thoughts are wildly different.

It's set in an entertainment trope and both the MC and ML are actors.

The banter between ML and MC is soo funny. MC is a smart talker, with no filter, and he has no pretences.

MC and ML slowly fall in love with each other.

I did find that the author rushed the ending. It could have ended when MC and ML fell in love. But the author dragged it on with, to me, felt like a unneeded plot. That plot itself didn't really add much to the story.

But all in all, the story had me in stitches. It's funny and entertaining, pretty ok to MTL.

I don't know if it's available translated as I stumbled upon it and MTL the whole story.

I MTL'd most of it before the translation isn't complete yet. Despite MTL, it was pretty easy to follow and damn funny.

Found myself laughing every so often. The MC is overpowered but not really. It's just the right amount that it doesn't get boring. The ML is cool too.

It was easy to get drawn into the story and it didn't drag on too long. Some face slapping but nothing overboard (some novels drag it on or make it too cruel).

No drama or misunderstandings between MC and ML. Feel good and sweet story with a happy ending.

The MC is a brilliant scholar with an arranged marriage. In a case of mistaken identity, MC ended up married to a man. ML really loves MC. The whole story is quite drama-free in the relationship between the MC and ML.

This story is so so funny. So many laugh out loud moments. The ML transmigrated into the supporting character/ cannon fodder (?) after the plot is over...

He's penniless and to make money, he starts writing a autobiography but the unique way he writes it makes it so amusing. He's so matter-a-fact in his retelling. He starts getting fans. I enjoyed reading the autobiography. It's like a story in a story.

MC is confident, he's pretty caring and somehow his (perhaps purposefully) nonchalant behaviour starts making (most) people that start out hating him, grudgingly starts liking him.

Then there's his relationship with ML, who he (MC) first thinks is out to cheat his elderly neighbour. ML liked him from the start. First as a friend but then falls for him.

It's readable even with MTL.

I give this 5 ⭐ ...

I've read this two times now... I may just read it for the third time. I like that the family relationship of MC is pretty good. There's the stepmother that tries to be evil... but isn't... And the younger half-sibling that is just silly but cute. The father that is vexed to "death" by MC...

OMG, it's just so funny.

And it has the supernatural / taoist / grandmaster trope.

And not forgetting, it's danmei... hehehe...

Putting this here because it's one of the first few danmei's that I read. When I get bored, I choose an arc to read. Drama-full and there's always face-slapping.

However, honest review, the tropes or arcs can get pretty repetitive, especially if you've read lots and lots of danmei.

But this story still holds a special place for me...

So funny! MC just wanted someone to takeover the as his Uncle's Taoist Temple and he sets his sight on ML. Totally innocent... However, misunderstandings occur and somehow ML thinks that MC is always trying to flirt with him.

Why I like this story:

If you are easily scared, this story can be a bit creepy. The MC is powerful but not that powerful. And MC is so funny... he has a delayed reaction when it comes to emotions and the author writes it in a way that is comedic. There's some tragic back story for both the ML and MC that plays a big part of the plot - which also explains MC's emotional response.

All in all, a pretty good read. Story is partially translated so I relied on MTL to read the complete story.

Re-read this after I watched The Untamed.

When I read it the first time, it was mostly through MTL... Finally read the English version. Why did no one ever tell me that it has smut? What have I been missing out... heheh... The incense burner (*fans self*)... It's always the quiet ones...

Somehow watching the drama then reading it makes the characters come to life.

This story has plot, has action, has drama, is sad but also has happy ending...

Is it the best ever danmei I've read... not really. But its one of the good ones.

Rebirth or transmigration stories are the kind of stories i'm in to reading now.

This story is pretty good... MC & ML have a good relationship which is drama-free. There's also face-slapping of some people that truly deserve it.

MTL'ed this story and it surprisingly wasn't hard to understand... not fully translated yet in ISO Translation, so MTL needed to finish the whole story. Some novels just translate badly through MTL, but this was okay...

It's pretty cute with a somewhat tsundere Gong ... heheh... and fabulous chef Shou (who is also a cat slave). WARNING! Do not read when hungry. It's gonna lead to snacking.

It all started because I saw the drama. I did read this a long time ago. But the drama somehow made the story come to life because of the way the actors interacted. So i looked for this again.

The story itself is pretty mild in terms of danmei. But the plot is interesting.

I think I read the MTL version first. But there's actually a proper translation now. It is so much easier to understand now.

I waited eagerly for each update from the translator... and was actually sad when the story ended.

This story made me search for more and more danmei and eventually succumbed to MTL (argh!!!, I feel like every MTL I read just kills points in my grammar).
