Ruby and Otis
NO, I THOUGHT IT LOOKED REALLY CUTE.
Remember, we only drink Coke Zero.
"ah but ruby was toxic with otis" ok... come on...
1. Ruby's entire development was a progression, she wasn't going to magically change her habits. she gave otis a new style so that he would fit in with her group, so that he would feel part of the group, but ruby had no idea he wasn't enjoying it, so otis was honest with her and what ruby did? calmly accepted and even defended him to his friends.
2. ruby didn't get mad at otis when everyone at school found out they were in a secret relationship, on the contrary, she naturally agrees to make their relationship public. And she still stays with otis without caring about the opinion of others.
3. remember when ola and otis were dating and ola forbade otis to see maeve? ruby had no attitude about it. otis and maeve got lost on their own, not because of the ruby.
4. Ruby, surprisingly, was changing all of her habits to stay with otis. she opened the doors of her house for the first time, she allowed otis to see her weaknesses, the other not perfect side of the ruby. no wonder she fell in love. it was the first time she felt free to show who she really was and it made her interpret her intentions as something more. and everything was going well, until they decided to discard the ruby after the otis-maeve move and not consider the character anymore after that.
5. After the breakup, Ruby doesn't juggle or try to trap Otis in a relationship with her (which would be abusive). she is sad but moves on and still makes it clear to Otis that she doesn't hate him.
6. Some are acting as if Ruby really had to get into a perfect relationship and throw her old personality away in order to have a "healthy" relationship with Otis, which in addition to not making sense to the character, would also be tedious to watch and would have none narrative conflict to explore. Otis had to mature and be honest with her, and Ruby also had to evolve to be able to open up and listen to what other people have to say. The conflicts (The secret relationship, the clothes...) had to exist to resolve them and develop the characters. It doesn't surprise me that after Otis-Ruby ends, the series gets really boring for me and there's nothing more interesting happening on screen besides Adam's story.
"You like me, but you don’t love me." "I don’t feel that way right now. That’s not to say I won’t."
