The refrigerator was packed

just a few weeks ago,

strangers' food aplenty.

Now I've got my appetite back.

The world has moved on though

and the fridge is empty.

I knew you were gone when your best friend called me concerned because he couldn't get a hold of you. It was a sister thing. It was an "us" thing.

I'm haunted by the cops voice telling me "There's no easy way to say this. He's deceased." I remember the sound of his voice cracking and the sound of Mom crying through my phone "My baby!"

Numb, and yet in so much pain at the same time.

Disbelief.

No sister should have to be the one to call the cops, to be the 1st told their baby brother was gone.
