Adam Savage dipping his fingers into a pot of molten lead. Immediately prior to submerging his fingers in the lead, he wet them with water, which will form a thin protective layer of water vapor on contact with the lead, which was heated to 850 degrees Fahrenheit. This is known as the Leidenfrost effect.
The Catatumbo Lightning (Spanish RelĂĄmpago del Catatumbo)
is an atmospheric phenomenon in Venezuela. It occurs strictly in an area located over the mouth of the Catatumbo River where it empties into Lake Maracaibo. The frequent, powerful flashes of lightning over this relatively small area are considered to be the world's largest single generator of tropospheric ozone[2]which refers to ozone that does not replenish the stratospheric ozone layer.[3
]The storms (and associated lightning) are likely the result of the winds blowing across the Maracaibo Lake and surrounding swampy plains. These air masses inevitably meet the high mountain ridges of the Andes, the Perijå Mountains (3,750m), and Mérida's Cordillera, enclosing the plain from three sides. The heat and moisture collected across the plains creates electrical charges and, as the air masses are destabilized at the mountain ridges, resulting in almost continual thunderstorm activity.[5]
Derweze, also known as the door to hell, is a 70 meter wide hole in the middle of the Karakum desert in Turkmenistan. The hole was formed in 1971 when a team of soviet geologists had their drilling rig collapse when they hit a cavern filled with natural gas. In an attempt to avoid poisonous discharge, they decided to burn it off, thinking that the gas would be depleted in only a few days. Derweze is still burning todayÂ

While his mother is cooing âDoes baybee want his bahbah?â that 6- to 9-month-old infant may just be thinking something along the lines of âYes, I do want my bottle!â New research indicates that infants as young as 6 months can understand the meaning of many spoken words.
âKids at this age arenât saying anything, theyâre not pointing, theyâre not walking,â study researcher Erika Bergelson, of the University of Pennsylvania, said in a statement. âBut actually, under the surface, theyâre trying to put together the things in the world with the words that go with them.â
