Living with Ryomen Sukuna was, contrary to popular belief, surprisingly quiet, mostly because everyone else was too terrified to breathe in his general direction. That silence, however, was currently being pulverized by the sound of you and Gojo Satoru trying to see who could slide across the polished floors of the shrine in their socks the fastest.
Sukuna sat upon his throne of bone, cheek resting in one hand, four eyes narrowed in various stages of irritation. He had leveled entire cities for less. He had turned sorcerers into ribbons for simply looking at him wrong.
And yet, here he was, watching you, the person he’d inexplicably decided was worth the effort, cheer as Gojo crashed into a sliding paper door.
"Ten points for the form, Satoru! Zero for the execution," you shouted, doubling over with laughter.
"I slipped! The friction coefficients in this cursed realm are rigged!" Gojo whined, popping up and adjusting his blindfold. "Again! Best two out of three, [Y/N]!"
Sukuna’s fingers twitched. A small fissure appeared in the armrest of his throne. He wasn't jealous, the King of Curses didn't do jealousy, but he was rapidly losing his grip on his legendary (and very thin) patience.

"Geto," Sukuna growled.

"I don't care about the logistics," Sukuna interrupted, watching as you and Gojo began a high-speed game of tag that involved jumping off the walls.
"Your companion is currently in my abode, attempting to teach [Y/N] how to 'break physics' to get better snacks. If you do not retrieve him within the next five minutes, I am going to expand my domain, and I will not be bothered to exclude him from the sure-hit effect."
On the other end of the line, Sukuna heard Geto sigh, a deep, soulful sound of a man who dealt with this daily. "Is he wearing the blindfold or the glasses?"
"He’s wearing my patience thin," Sukuna snapped. "He’s currently trying to put a cat ear headband on [Y/N]. Make it stop."
"I'm on my way," Geto muttered. "Tell [Y/N] I'm bringing those crepes they like as an apology."
Five minutes later, a black bird-like curse swooped into the courtyard. Geto stepped off, looking like a man arriving to pick up a rowdy toddler from daycare.

"I called for a disposal service," he corrected, his voice dropping to that smooth, dangerous silk. "Now that the nuisance is gone... perhaps you can find a way to spend your energy on someone who won't require me to rebuild the north wing.
You grinned, leaning into his touch. "Are you saying you missed me while I was playing with Satoru?"

Satoru Gojo was, by all academic standards, a genius. He was the kind of student who corrected the textbooks and finished three-hour physics exams in forty minutes. But sitting across from you, he felt like he was failing a test he hadn’t even studied for.
He adjusted his glasses, thick, black-rimmed frames that constantly slid down the bridge of his nose because he was too preoccupied with string theory to remember to tighten the screws. He was wearing a sweater vest over a button-down, his white hair a chaotic bird’s nest because he’d spent the morning pulling at it while coding.
You were different. You were effortless. You sat there with your iced coffee, looking perfectly composed, a contrast to the stack of heavy journals and scribbled-on napkins that surrounded him.

He let out a self-deprecating, shaky laugh. "I bet you think I'm pathetic."
You didn't get up to leave. Instead, you reached across the table and placed your hand firmly over his shaking ones, pinning his messy diagrams to the wood.
"Satoru," you said, your voice low and steady. "Look at me."

"Fair enough," you smiled. "So... about that 'distraction'?"
Sukuna didn't waste any more time. He pulled you back into his space, his kiss tasting like home and a promise of something much more permanent than a Saturday afternoon.

Sound first, layers upon layers of it. Voices overlapping, traffic humming, footsteps, laughter, shouting, music bleeding from somewhere you couldn’t see. Then motion. People everywhere, moving with purpose, bumping shoulders, weaving past one another like they all knew where they were going.
And then there was everything else.
The air felt thick.
Not heavy like the seals underground had been. Not suffocating. This was different. It buzzed. Pressed. Crawled against your skin in a way that made your spine prickle.
You slowed without realizing it.
Gojo noticed immediately.
“Hey,” he said lightly, walking half a step ahead of you. “Still with me?”
You nodded, though your chest felt tight. “There’s… a lot.”

Tuesday.
Morning came softly.
You only knew because the light changed.
Sunlight spilled through the tall windows of the room you’d been placed in, temporary, Gojo had said.
A dorm, maybe. You didn’t really know what that meant, just that it wasn’t underground, and the ceiling didn’t press down on your chest when you breathed.
You stood by the window, fingers curled around the curtain fabric, watching dust float lazily through the air.
People walked outside.
Just… walking. Laughing. Existing.
It still felt unreal.
A knock came at the door, not heavy, not commanding. Casual.
“Rise and shine, Sleeping Beauty,” Gojo’s voice chimed. “Or, uh… rise and existentially panic. Whichever you prefer.”
You turned, a small smile tugging at your lips before you could stop it.
He leaned in the doorway, uniform loose, glasses perched on his nose. He looked… normal. Too normal, for someone stationed outside your door.
“You sleep?” he asked.
You nodded. “I think so. I don’t usually dream.”
“Huh.” He hummed. “Guess that’s a good thing?”
You weren’t sure.
“C’mon,” he said, jerking his thumb down the hall. “Tuesday’s itinerary: world exposure. We’ll start easy. No cursed spirits. No interrogations. Just… walking around.”
You hesitated only a second before grabbing your shoes.

The campus was louder during the day.
Students moved in small groups, uniforms rustling, conversations overlapping. You walked beside Gojo, close enough that your sleeve brushed his arm now and then. You weren’t sure why, maybe because he felt like an anchor, something solid in a place that still felt too big.
You stared openly.
Buildings. Trees. A vending machine that hummed ominously.
“What’s that?” you asked, pointing.
Gojo glanced. “That? Ancient cursed object. Extremely dangerous.”
You froze.
“…Really?”
He snorted. “Nah. Soda machine. Want one?”
You watched, fascinated, as he fed it coins and pressed a button. When the can dropped with a clatter, you flinched.
He handed it to you. “Careful. Cold.”
You turned it over in your hands, reading the label slowly. You remembered everything you saw, every word, every sound. Information was rare where you came from. You’d learned to hoard it.
You took a cautious sip.
Your eyes widened.
“Oh.”
Gojo grinned. “Yeah. That reaction never gets old.”
You kept walking after that, questions spilling out in quiet bursts.
Why do they wear uniforms?
What’s a “class”?
Why do some people feel… heavier, when they walk by?
Gojo answered easily, adjusting his explanations without realizing it. simpler, gentler. He didn’t talk down to you, but he didn’t overwhelm you either.
Eventually, you found yourselves near a small garden tucked away from the main paths. It was quiet here. Peaceful.
You sat on the stone edge of a planter, hands folded in your lap.
Gojo leaned against a tree, watching you from behind his glasses.
“You don’t ask about yourself much,” he noted.
You blinked. “What do you mean?”
“Most people would’ve started with ‘why me?’ or ‘what am I?’” His tone was light, but his attention was sharp. “You haven’t.”
You looked down at your hands.
“I don’t think anyone would tell me,” you said simply.
That answer hit harder than he expected.
“…You really don’t know, do you?” he asked.
You shook your head. “Not really.”
Silence stretched between you.
You stared at the dirt beneath your feet, words coming slowly, like you were testing each one before letting it go.
“My mother died when I was a baby. That’s all I was ever told.” You paused.
“My father said it was important I stayed hidden. That it was the only way.”
Gojo didn’t interrupt.
“I don’t remember him very well,” you continued. “Just… fear. He was always angry. I think he was scared too. Sometimes he was kind. Sometimes not.” Your fingers curled tighter. “I don’t miss him.”
There was no bitterness in your voice. Just honesty.
“One day,” you said, quieter now, “we weren’t hidden anymore.”
Gojo’s jaw tightened.
“I don’t know what happened to him,” you added. “I just know strangers found me. They said I was dangerous. A problem.” You let out a soft, humorless huff. “No one explained why.”
You swallowed.
“When I was little, I cried a lot. Screamed. I thought if I was loud enough, someone would listen.”
Your shoulders lifted in a small shrug. “They didn’t.”
Gojo’s hands curled in his pockets.
“Some people came to ask questions,” you went on. “I didn’t understand them. Sometimes they got angry.”
You stopped, shaking your head. “I don’t like thinking about that part.”
“I won’t make you,” Gojo said immediately.
You glanced up at him, surprised.
“…Thanks.”
You breathed in slowly before continuing.
“As I got older, they stopped coming. Just one man. My handler. Suit. Same face every day.”
You smiled faintly. “I called my room a tomb. I was pretty sure I’d die there.”
Gojo looked away.
“That’s when I started listening,” you said. “Remembering everything. Words they didn’t mean for me to hear. ‘Sorcerer.’ ‘Curse.’ ‘Bloodline.’”
You tilted your head. “That’s… all I know.”
The quiet that followed was heavy.
“You know,” Gojo said finally, voice oddly subdued, “most people in this world know exactly who I am.”
You frowned. “You’re Gojo.”
He barked out a laugh. “Yeah. But I mean, they fear me. Admire me. Want something from me.” He glanced at you. “You don’t.”
“Should I?” you asked, genuinely confused.
He stared at you for a long moment.
“…No,” he said. “No, you really shouldn’t.”
You smiled at that.
To you, he wasn’t the strongest.
He wasn’t a legend.
He was just Gojo, the first person your age who’d spoken to you like a human being.
And for reasons he didn’t fully understand yet, that scared him more than anything the higher-ups had said.
“Alright,” he said, straightening. “That’s enough heavy stuff for one day.”
He held out a hand.
“Tuesday’s not over yet. I still gotta teach you how not to get hit by a bike.”
Your eyes lit up.
“A bike?”
Gojo smirked.
“…Yeah. Trust me. They’re lethal.”
And as you took his hand, stepping back into the world that had been denied to you for so long, Gojo Satoru made a quiet decision.
Whatever you were meant to be,
he wasn’t letting them decide it for you.

Gojo decided very quickly that evaluating you didn’t have to be boring.
“Okay,” he said, stopping in the middle of a wide walkway. “Assessment time.”
You stiffened instantly. “I thought you said no interrogations.”
“Relax,” he waved a hand. “This is the fun kind. Low stakes. Mostly.”
That didn’t reassure you.
He pointed toward a group of students passing by, laughing loudly. “Question one: how do you feel right now?”
You glanced at them, then back at him. You searched inward, the way you’d taught yourself to do when emotions felt too big.
“…Excited,” you said. “A little overwhelmed. But not… angry. Or scared.”
Gojo nodded, mental note made.
No spike. No agitation. No cursed energy flare.
Good.
“And when they look at you?” he asked casually. “Do you feel anything weird?”
You watched the students disappear around a corner. “Not really. I don’t think they even noticed me.”
Gojo hummed. Even better.
He clapped his hands together suddenly. “Alright! Next test.”
You jumped.
“Reflexes!” he announced, tossing something at you.
You reacted without thinking, hands snapping up, catching it midair.
It was… bread.
You stared at it.
“…Why did you throw bread at me?”
“See?” he grinned. “Perfectly normal response. No murderous instincts whatsoever.”
“That’s your conclusion?”
“For now.”
You walked on, holding the bread awkwardly. “What am I supposed to do with this?”
“Eat it.”
“…Just like that?”
“Yes, like a person.”
You took a cautious bite.
It was plain. A little dry.
Still, you smiled.
Gojo watched from the corner of his eye, pretending not to notice the way you savored it like it might vanish.
They stopped near the edge of campus, where the barriers thinned and the air felt different, lighter, but sharper too. Gojo slowed his pace.
“Alright,” he said. “This part’s important.”
You looked at him.
“People out there,” he gestured vaguely beyond the grounds, “don’t know about curses. Or sorcerers. Or… you.”
You nodded. “So I shouldn’t talk about it.”
“Exactly. And if something feels wrong, too much, too heavy, too angry, you tell me.” His tone stayed casual, but his eyes were sharp. “Immediately.”
You studied him for a moment. “Is that part of the test?”
“…Yeah,” he admitted.
You considered that. Then you gave the smallest of smiles. Gojo realized in that moment that for someone treated the way you had been, it almost seemed like happiness was just your default.
“I think I can do that.”
He exhaled, something loosening in his chest.
Good. Good.
They ended up sitting on the steps outside one of the buildings, sharing the rest of the bread Gojo somehow produced more of. You asked him about things he liked, music, food, why he wore those glasses even though he clearly didn’t need them to see.
“Style,” he said seriously, only partially telling the truth, he wasn't actually allowed to tell you about his technique.
You laughed, surprised at the sound of it leaving you so easily now.
He found himself talking more than he meant to. About being a sorcerer. About how annoying the higher-ups were. About how strength wasn’t all it was cracked up to be.
You listened like it mattered.
Such a hungry thing for information. Gojo thought with a dry humor
At one point, you asked, “Does it ever get lonely?”
Gojo went quiet.
“…Yeah,” he said finally. “More than people think.”
You bumped your shoulder against his, tilting your head. “Then I’m glad you’re here.”
He blinked.
Then he laughed it off, loud and easy. “Careful. Say stuff like that and I’ll start charging emotional support fees.”
But later, when you yawned, exhausted from simply existing in the open world, Gojo walked you back to your room.
He paused outside the door.
“Today went well,” he said.
“That means I passed?”
“For Tuesday?” he smirked. “Yeah. Gold star.”
You smiled, a small ball of pride curling in your chest.
As the door closed, Gojo stood there a moment longer, staring at the wood.
No incidents.
No loss of control.
No curse manifestation.
Just a girl learning how to live.
He pulled out his phone and typed a single line into his report:
Subject shows no signs of instability. Continued observation recommended.
Then, after a second, he added..
Also, she likes bread.
Gojo slipped the phone away, grin fading just a little.
If the higher-ups were expecting a ticking time bomb…

The room smells like antiseptic and leftover cursed energy clinging to you like it doesn’t know how to let go.
You’re barely awake.
Bandages wrap your torso, your arms, your shoulder; there’s a dull, constant ache everywhere that matters. Shoko finishes checking over you, clicks her tongue, and finally sighs.
“She'll live,” she says, glancing at Gojo. “Eventually, she'll be just fine. But for a while? She's benched. No missions. No heroics. Don’t even think about it.”
You hum weakly, eyes half-lidded.
Gojo doesn’t say anything.
He hasn’t, actually. Not since he arrived and saw you, small in the bed, blood caked in your hair, skin stitched together. The strongest sorcerer alive stands there with his hands clenched so tight his knuckles ache, jaw locked.
Shoko watches him for a moment, then turns to you. “I’ll give you two a minute.”
She leaves without another word, door clicking shut behind her.
The silence is loud.
You blink slowly, then your gaze finds him. Even through the haze, you smile.
“Hey,” you murmur. “You… uh. You texted me.”
Gojo stiffens.
You squint at him like you’re concentrating very hard. “Said you had something important to tell me when I got back.”
Oh.
Oh, this is cruel.
He laughs, a short, broken thing. “You’re– you’re barely conscious,” he says, voice too light, as he grimaces a little. “This doesn’t count.”
You smile wider, even though it clearly hurts. “Still wanna know.”
He opens his mouth.
Closes it.
Runs a hand through his hair, pacing once, twice, like he can outrun the feeling clawing up his throat. He was supposed to wait. He was supposed to do this right, after you healed, after you laughed again, after he wasn’t terrified he might lose you the second he said it out loud.
But you’re here. Hurt. Alive. Looking at him like that.
“I thought I was ready,” he says finally, not looking at you. “I had this whole plan. Cool, casual. Very me.” A breath. “And then I saw you like this and suddenly none of it matters.”
He turns to you. His hand dragging down his face and taking his blindfold with it.
His eyes are uncovered, bright and raw and far too honest.
“I love you,” he says, like it’s being torn out of him. “I’ve been in love with you. And I didn’t say anything because I didn’t want to mess things up, or scare you off, or–” His voice breaks, just a little. “–or lose you. And then you went on that mission and I thought maybe I already did.”
The words hang between you, heavy and trembling.
For a long moment, neither of you speaks.
Then your eyes fill.
“Oh,” you whisper, and a tear slips down your temple into the pillow. “God, Satoru… I’ve been so dumb.”
He freezes. “What?”
You laugh weakly through the tears. “You’re the least subtle person in the world and I still thought I was imagining it.” Another tear. “It’s so obvious. Everyone probably knows. Shoko definitely knows.”
He lets out a breath that almost sounds like he's gasping for air
“You love me?” he asks, so small and careful, so unlike the great sorcerer he is.
You nod, crying openly now. “Of course I do. I always have.”
He’s at your side in an instant, careful hands hovering before settling, one on your bandaged arm, one cradling your face like you’re made of glass. Even though he knows you're not, he can't help it.
“Hey,” he murmurs, forehead resting against yours. “Hey. You’re okay. I’ve got you.”
And for the first time since you were brought back on a stretcher, he believes it and so do you.
I would loooove to see yearner nanami or yearner sukuna texts 👀 i feel like nanami would be so awkward and reader thinks he hates her, and that sukuna would be sooooo down bad but reader doesnt wanna believe it so she acts oblivious 🤷♀️ i love dedicated sukuna >> thotkuna
Omg yes, Sukuna would be PERFECT. He’d be disgustingly down bad and not subtle about it at all 😭 like he wouldn’t even try to hide it. Meanwhile the reader is just completely oblivious, dodging every single attempt without realizing what’s happening.
I also really like the idea of the reader being a little nervous around Nanami because she thinks he hates her since he’s so curt and distant. But in reality he’s just in love and lowkey terrified she’ll figure it out and not feel the same. I’ll have to think more about doing him though, since I’m not sure I’m familiar enough with his character yet, but I will look into it.
Sukuna though? I’m DEFINITELY doing him. He’d be so unintentionally funny about it, like he wouldn’t even mean to be, he just is.
