"it's okay, i've got you now."
you can only hide your face away in his chest, sobbing your entire heart out, embarrassed at how your tears soak the front of his short. if he does notice, he doesn't seem to care; just strokes your hair and brings you closer into his embrace.
your relationships always ends like this, one way or another, with you at your best friend's door. he must tire of this, you think — but when he pulls your face up to look into his doting eyes, you realise there is anything but exasperation.
"am i really — hic — that unlovable?"
he stills at your pitiful whisper, grip growing more firm on you when he tuts at your self-deprecating words. "never. you're not unlovable, y'hear me? you're perfect." your best friend wipes away your tears, kissing the crown of your head. "they're the problem, they can't appreciate what's in front of them."
you curl in on yourself, still unconvinced. "you're just saying that because you're my friend." you sniffle, heat crawling up your neck. "everyone i date ends up ghosting me o-or leaving. it hurts."
oh, i know, sweetie. let it out." he hushes, letting you make a mess of yourself in the warmth of his room, melt into his hands and cry your heart out till you're better. then, you'll watch a movie and fall asleep on top of him, just like you always do. it reminds him of when you were kids, holding tightly onto his hand on the playground. you were always so timid, with your fragile heart that he could snap in two.
he rolls his shoulder back. it's always so tiring to have to go through the trouble of threatening each and every one of those flies; this one was especially stubborn, it wasn't his fault that it escalated into violence.
but it is worth it, when you smile sleepily, thanking him for being such a good friend. his patience is limited though,
only a matter of time before he takes what he wants.
