So yes this will be about Vanya catching your fav fish to gift to you! <3 It’s mostly kinda from his pov! I really wish he could walk around and take scrolls so I could get funnier cover photos but oh well!

A loud sigh came from Vanya, the town’s fishing mentor as he leaned back, hands on his hips, almost stretching with a groan.
“Oh man, this fish is always a bit of a pain to get..”
He mumbled to himself as he leaned forward just a tad, now only one hand on his hip and the other resting a bit on the dark wooden table in front of him. His finger tapping on his journal, or well, self-guide, on a page of your favorite fish.
His eyes closed as he leaned back his head in thought.
“But the **Fav fish** is **Y/N** favorite fish.. and they did mention wanting a fishy friend.. plus mmh I did gift them the welcome aquarium, but who really gifts an aquarium without a fish?”
He huffed as if he didn’t always do it without a fish, after all he is teaching how to catch so why not do it themselves BUT for y/n? He felt rather inclined to make a stronger impression of his charming self, to make them maybe feel special too. His thoughts raced a bit too much on how y/n might react to such a gift, wondering if their smile would make that moment grow brighter than anything he could imagine.. As his cheeks turned a light rosy red, he quickly shook his head to rid himself of the sweet clustering thoughts that were serving rather as a distraction than as a matter of right now.
“Focus, Vanya, tsk.. You’re the best fish around and you know what, if anyone can it is me! Plus they aren’t that different from a fish! I just have to prepare properly and keep my mind sharp!”
Vanya let out a confident cackle, as he closed his self-guide and slipped it into one of his many pockets on the fishing vest he wore. He froze for a moment with a soft smile on his face recalling how just a few days ago you had moved into Heartopia, and were glowing away chatting up a storm about how much you like this fish! Of course, he wasn’t sure if you were truly into fish or just a unique fascination with the specified species but he was going to be sure regardless that he would be wholesomely rewarded with more cute information about you.. from you! Just the way he likes it… Or well now supposedly liked it! Who knew!
Putting on his hat, making sure he was nice and prepped for this special fishing trip, his vest perfectly suited up more than normal. Vanya sighed to himself in the mirror, just shaking his head before softly chuckling at how much effort he was already putting in as if this was some world champion fishing tournament rather than the casual fishing it was.
“Jeez Van, look at yourself! Getting all geared up for a gift for someone you hardly know! Oh well to catch the best fish, you gotta prepare the best! Plus… What can I say? I do LOOK pretty good, man I hope to run into y/n while they are out working on their dailies!”
He grinned at himself, eyeing himself up before doing one last adjustment to his vest and proudly buffing out a chest. His lake blue eyes trailing off to the collection of fishing rods he had on display. He tilted his head to the side as he pondered to himself which one would be the best choice. His hand on his chin just staring until he suddenly snapped his fingers with a smile, an eureka moment! He reached out grabbing a light blue fishing rod that looked a bit worn but still was obviously well loved and kept.
“I’ll go with you, after all your my lucky rod! You’ve helped me make so many memories so why not help me make a new one and grow with someone..I find special”
A soft smile laid on his face as he looked at the rod rather fondly as he thought about y/n once again. He let out a breath of relief and yet again a small laugh before nodding and heading out the door.
“Yeah, today will be just fine! I’ll catch the best **insert ur fav fish** my abilities can lead me too just for y/n!!”
Vanya started off in town, heading off to Massimo’s, to buy himself a few items to eat throughout his fishing mission. Approaching closer the older mustache man in a chef hat lit up as he started to wave at Vanya.
“Good morning!! What a coincidence, why I just prepped some freshly made bagels and smoked fish!”
The older gentleman was already heading inside knowing Vanya could follow.
“Morning, Massimo! And perfect! I’ll take one of those then I have some other items I need to get if you have time!”
Vanya said as he placed his fishing pole off to the side of the entrance just as he pranced inside, taking in the rich and warm scent of the freshly baked bagels amongst other things.
“Now Vanya, you know I always have time for cooking! Especially for a good supplier and friend! Now what has you up today and with some extra shine? Event?”
Massimo asked as he sliced through a fresh bagel and slipped it in the oven, only to move onto slicing the smoked salmon, glancing up at the younger man here and there.
Vanya rested against the counter, with his back turned towards him. His typical closed eyes smile expression resting on his face as he spoke.
“Nah, no event or anything. Just a personal little task, I plan on catching a friend’s favorite fish, and well it is an **insert ur fav fish** and they love this species a lot to the point as the best fisher around it felt like my duty to make their smile glow again with getting one for them to keep as a pet ya know? Plus I gift them an aquarium around as I always do”
Vanya had no plans to name drop y/n or anything, but little did he know Massimo had glanced up with a raised eyebrow with a bit of a grin almost immediately putting two and two together.. Anyone could.
“Sounds like quite the gift! They must have really had an impact on you for you to catch yourself instead of making them learn their own way! I wish you the best of luck! So tell me what other food fuel would you like off the menu today? I have just about everything prepped this fine morning!”
Vanya let out a small hum as he thought about what to get before turning on his heels to order.
“I’ll do two cray fish sashimi and an order of fish and chips, please! Extra crisp on the fish”
Massimo nodded and got to preparing his orders!
After 20 or so minutes, Massimo handed it to him but there seemed to be an extra bag that caused Vanya to raise an eyebrow and look at Massimo.
“I think you’re accidentally pairing someone’s order with mine! This looks to be a cake roll”
“Nope! That’s for you to hand to y/n when you give them that fish. They quite love for this flavor”
The chef winked and let out a laugh as Vanya’s eyes widened in surprise and confusion.
“W-What? Huh? How did you know?”
“Oh come on, boy! They are the newest talk of the town, plus they are such a glow to em, there’s no way it would be anyone else to catch your attention this way they way they would! So take it! And goodluck! **insert ur fav cake roll** is their favorite!”
Vanya stood there dumbfounded for a moment before laughing and rubbing the back of his head. He wasn’t expecting to be that readable but hey, at least he wasn’t the only one who felt such good energy from y/n!
“Okay okay! Yeah you got me! Thank you! I’ll be off now!”
After a while of traveling Vanya finally reached the right location and with a huff of confidence marched right up to the water and looked out over the view, trying to spot any shadows in the spots, **Ur fav fish** typically would opt for hanging about. He tossed in some bait, and threw his line with a smile.
By this point it was nearly noon and he had already eaten his smoked salmon bagel and finished his morning coffee. He grumbled a bit as he had yet to catch it, instead it was just a series of fish he had no interest in today. Vanya kept catching and releasing, moving from spot to spot every 30-40 minutes, testing out all the bait he knew or well was aware of that would lure out a **Ur fav fish* but yet not a single one has yet.
“I have the location right, the weather is ideal! And the time is pretty perfect so.. what the heck!!!”
He took a deep breath and placed the fishing line down in the ground handle as he flopped down to sit in the grass, taking out his lunch of the crayfish sashimi with a refreshing lime soda. He took out his self guide and flipped to the correct page, reading over it again, wondering if he maybe missed a step or clue.
“This species never likes me, such an odd one to enjoy. Yeah they're pretty and all but still.. okay okay, let me not complain too much and dull the nice mood! I got a few hours away! Plus I gotta admit it's been a while since I’ve fished purely for myself, it feels so refreshing!”
He took a bite of his lunch and leaned back looking up at the clear, funny sky. As some time passed, Vanya just watched the birds drift by, until suddenly y/n popped up in his thought. He shook his head with a light chuckle, as he used a free hand to cover part of his face as it heated up.
“Oh they are really invaliding my head…”
He mumbled as a soft smile was on his face but it was soon interrupted as the fishing rod did a small vibrant making his attention go right to it. He stood up and gently grabbed the rod, careful not to scare the potential fish that might be in the line. He glanced out into the water only to do the bobble part to get yank down giving him the cue to start riling it in.
Vanya tightened his grip on the handle, riling with strategy, loosening the line here and there before yanking it back. His eyes widened as if they were filled with stars and the shimmer of the sun, a giant smile grew on his face as the fish he was looking for finally showed, he let out a loud excited laugh as he began to cheer.
“OH FINALLY! Oh great stars, it is a nice one! I’ll give it 5 stars! Look at those scales! The size! The beauty! Man you were challenged!!
He held the fish up gently towards the sudden admiring all its colors and how flawless it looked.. while the fish itself looks rather mad.
“Well aren’t you expressionate for a fish, you should be happy you’re being taken in to be a pet by someone who will adore you, personally I rather see how well you taste!”
The fish squirmed as if trying to fight Vanya as he placed it in a water cooler. Once kn the water the fish squirted water up at him, seeming not so happy about the comment.
“Hey! Jeez, I was only kidding! You’re too pretty to eat.. maybe”
He smirked at the fish who had turned away, seeming to have enough of this guy. Vanya laughed it off as he made sure the cooler was secured before packing up his other equipment. His cheeks tinted rosy with happiness and a pinch of the cold. He glowed with happiness like, heck he even had a bit of bounce in his step from just imagining y/n reaction to their favorite fish in 5 star condition. His head held up high, imagining how bright they will smile at the gifts, how much it will make his day to witness such a sight.
Finally it was almost time to meet y/n, or so he hope it was.. he didn’t exactly schedule a time or memorized your schedule as well that would be weird as of right now. But he was pretty sure they always passed through town around this time for whatever reason they may have. He was already waiting by the central area, a bit to the side. Resting against a coffee table until he heard the sound of a familiar sound of **ur choosen vehicle**. He perked up a bit, looking in the direction of the sound. He smiled brightly and began to wave y/n down.
They noticed him and pulled over, hauling to a spot. Vanya approaching you with his normal changing smile as he gave him one back.
“Hello! I was hoping to see you come by, I’m happy I was able to catch you! I have a up.. gift for you! Or well gifts! Oh wait hold on..”
He paused and looked y/n up and down before clapping as his smile grew brighter.
“Is that a new outfit? You look amazing!!! I love it! Hah, you have to come shopping with me and help me out some day!”
You paused a bit started by the sudden compliment, you almost thought you did something wrong! But once it clicked it was just a sweet compliment, you blushed a bit and chuckled.
“Thank you, Vanya! It is new! Dorethee always gets the best shipment in! And I would LOVE to try to dress you up! I’m not as good as you think though, I just choose what I find comfortable!”
Vanya held out the cooler for you to open, he noticed y/n looked a bit puzzled and he found it cute.
“Don’t worry it is safe, just open the lid and take a look, you’ll love it”
Y/n hesitated for a movement before nodding and opening it only to gasp out and let out the loudest awe he’s ever heard. He blushed a bit as his smile relaxed, enjoying the wholesome sight he was lucky to witness and be the cause of.
“I love it!!!!!!! I can’t believe this!! Did you really catch **ur fav fish** just to show me?!”
Vanya shook his head and had a bit of a smug look.
“Actually it’s FOR you, you know that tank I gave you when you first arrived.. I thought it was a hit embarrassing to just give you an empty tank.. and well the way you spoke about the species, I just felt the need to get it for you!”
Y/n took the cooler and loaded it to your vehicle rather gently.
“Thank you so much! I’ll be sure to take good care of them!!!”
“Oh I know you will! I’m happy to have surprised you this way! OH! I have one more thing for you!”
He handed you the cake roll as you did a little jump of excitement.
“**ur fav cake roll**!! How did you know this was my favorite?! Thank you, Vanya, you’re so kind!”
Y/n jumped up and gave him a tight hug that caused him to stumble back just a bit before gently hugging back with one hand as the other hand the cake roll for you.
“I’m just a lucky guesser! But really it is my pleasure!”
Y/n took the cake roll and smiled ever so warmly and bright, that Vanya felt like it would melt the snow around them.
“I’m happy, you’re here, Y/n”
Vanya said with a soft closed eyed smile with soft twinkles and flower aura around him as he took a photo of y/n showing and posing with their new beloved fish and tasty cake roll.
Author notes: This is my first writing.. I’ve ever published in any way.. AND FINISHED! Please enjoy! I’ll hopefully have this up on my ao3 too! But yes!! Hopefully it isn’t too bad!
