25 Lifelong Effects Of Interning At A Fashion Magazine
We love this hilarious list of the effects of being a fashion intern! (Courtesy of Buzzfeed)
1. The thought of Fashion Week terrifies you, even if you’re nowhere close to it.

2. Whenever you’re leaving to get yourself coffee, you can’t help but ask everyone around you whether they’d like some as well.

3. You’re still good friends with the baristas at the Starbucks closest to your internship.
And you still have your former bosses’ coffee orders memorized. Skinny soy misto chai, anyone?

4. You get annoyed when you shop for clothes because you recognize which designer and which season inspired each item of clothing on the shelves.
Because everything that’s on the shelves at Forever 21 today, you saw on Voguepedia two years ago.

5. You can move very fast in very high heels.
Dodging traffic and carrying heavy loads if necessary.

11. “Hungover” is just a state of mind and “underslept” is for the weak.

12. You’re an expert transcriber. American editor interviewing French designer? No problem. Indecipherable German accent? Piece of cake.

13. Your friends suddenly take your fashion advice very seriously.

14. You had to work hard to overcome your warped understanding of what “thin” and “fat” mean.
Same goes for “cheap” and “expensive.”

16. And you experience PTSD every time you walk past a walk-in.
Because your instinct is to rearrange it by size, color, and season.

Day in the Life: Photoshoot at the Pier
On Wednesday, we were on-site at the Santa Monica Pier for a LAMO Footwear photoshoot! While the weather wasn't up to Southern California's usual standards (the traffic getting there definitely was), the team at the shoot was able to capture the easygoing essence of the shoe brand.
Walking to the pier
Our models Hunter, Paige, and Jenna in their first looks
The pier was so lively! There were tons of great places to shoot there, like an awesome mural, fun rides, and even a fire truck to match the hats our models got at the pier.
Playing around with cotton candy
We pack light.
After getting some shots at the pier, we went down to the beach, only to find that everybody else was thinking the same. We knew there was no way we would get a good shot without some people wading in the water or digging for sandcrabs in the background, so we switched gears and headed over to Venice Beach instead.
We had to move quickly so that we wouldn't lose much light, but it was so worth it. With virtually no people, our photographer was able to get the kind of beach shots we wanted - ones that focus on the shoes!

The models having fun between shots
Photoshoots are definitely fun, but going against the weather, time, and traffic makes it hard work, too. Thanks to the whole team - the director, photography team, makeup artists, models, and everyone else who made working such a pleasure!

W2W: Independence Day
One of our greatest freedoms is being able to wear what we want -- at least in fashion, it is! If you want to pay tribute to Uncle Sam without actually dressing like him but don't know where to start, take a look at some outfits we put together for the 4th of July:
This red, white, and blue look is perfect for a family get-together. The red and white striped top is a cute nod to the stripes on our flag, and the boyfriend jeans are comfortable and all-American. Keep it fresh with a pair of bright white sandals.
America has been the birthplace of some of the greatest bands and musical artists throughout history. Pay tribute to your favorite American band by wearing a vintage tee and denim shorts at an Independence day fair or festival. The fringe on these booties add to the rock-and-roll vibe of this look.
For a chillier summer night of fireworks, try a light festive sweater and jeggings, which will be great for sitting or standing during the show. Incorporate some color into the outfit with a pair of bright shoes like these studded ballerina flats!
What will you be doing this Independence Day?
Summer Makeup Saviors
Makeup is like fashion - you have to switch out your items every few months to fit with the changing trends and seasons. It's not easy to stay cool in the heat, but here are a few tips on keeping your face melt-free this summer:
1. Protect & Prime
Before you even start putting on your makeup, make sure you have the right base. Smooth on some SPF to guard against harmful rays and prep your skin with primer to help keep your makeup in place all day.
2. Lighten Up
When it's hot, less is more. Stay away from layers of foundation, concealer, and powder, and use a tinted moisturizer or BB cream for the warmer months. It'll prevent a makeup meltdown and your pores will thank you next season.
3. Get Proofed
Whether you're going to the pool or not, waterproof eyemakeup is a must in the summer. Bring out your waterproof mascara and eyeliner to avoid the raccoon look.
4. Go for Bronze
Summer makeup is about glow. Give yourself a healthy one by lightly applying bronzer where the sun naturally hits your face: your cheeks, nose, forehead, and chin.
5. Tint & Moisturize
Skip heavy lipsticks and go for a tinted lipbalm (with SPF!) instead. Your lips will stay protected, moisturized, and beautiful in the summer heat.

Day in the Life: Model Mayhem
A day in the life of a publicist is like a snowflake: no two are ever the same. With different projects, clients, and events to manage, the PR life is always changing and never repetitive. Because each day is different, we thought we'd note the things we do on a "typical" day. For the first installment of this "day in the life" series: a model casting at the office in the middle of the day.
10 am: Made a call with a client, updated our social media accounts, and just have one unread email. A productive morning so far.
11 am: Only one more hour until the casting starts. I should probably eat a snack but I'm in the middle of editing this press release...
11:30 am: The doorbell rings. It's an early model. We go to greet her, have her check in, look at her portfolio, and take four photos: front, profile, editorial, commercial. One model down, 33 to go.
12:00 pm: In between writing emails and answering the phone, we check in and photograph a few more models.
1:00 pm: One hour left of the casting. Things have slowed down a bit so I get back to editing that release. At the same time, I take bites of my lunch and start uploading the models' photos onto my computer, but the doorbell interrupts.
1:30 pm: We are juggling four or five models at a time. I think the office dog wants to be a model because he keeps photobombing.
2:00 pm: The casting is over. I just finish importing the rest of the photos and--
2:30 pm: One last model arrives. You can't control everything.
3:00 pm: I go through the photos and narrow down the collection to 1-2 photos of each model. I share them with the rest of the office and we send them to our client for a final opinion.
4:00 pm: The casting is over, the photos are sent, and I can finally focus on the bits and pieces of my assignments that I've completed. Time to make the last hour of the day as productive as the first one!
W2W: Summer Weddings
We all know that June is the most popular month for weddings. During the summer, weddings can take place anywhere from in a sanctuary to by the shore, so it's important to dress accordingly.
The three words you should have running through your head as you create a wedding outfit are these: keep it simple. A wedding is the bride and groom's special day, so don't detract any attention from them by wearing a loud ensemble! Instead, go for solid colors, minimal prints, and flattering shapes. And while not all brides may choose to wear a traditional white on their wedding day, it's safest to opt for a non-white dress as a wedding guest.
As for accessories, choose ones that blend well together and feel free to find some expression in a single statement piece.
Because it's summer, keep your fabrics and color palette bright and light! If you need inspiration, we've put together three summer wedding looks to get your creative juices flowing:
A wedding is one of the most joyful celebrations you can be a part of, so just relax and have fun!

Mannfolk PR's Summer Must-Haves!
Summertime means barbecues, pool parties, weekend getaways, and days spent at the beach. It also means pulling out your summer wardrobe from the back of your closet and shopping for new favorites! Take a look at the Mannfolk PR team's personal summer must-haves:
Dorothy loves her Tory Burch flip flops because they easily add a pop of color to any summer ensemble and look great with a fresh pedicure! More importantly, she makes sure to stay hydrated during the warmer season - why not do so with a sleek water bottle like this glass one by Takeya?
For Sam, summer is all about enjoying the sun, but staying protected! To keep her skin from being harmed by harsh rays, she uses Clarins sunscreen...but that doesn't stop her from getting her tan on. Her go-to sunless tanning product is Brazilian Bronze by Vani-T.
Joseph's monochrome choices are proof that you can still look chic in the heat. Dolce & Gabbana's summer shorts have a cool and casual beach vibe and these black Gucci sandals are subtle yet eye-catching.
Mel is constantly wearing shades in the summer, so she never neglects her eyebrows! She keeps hers looking beautiful with MAC's Veluxe Brow Liner. With her pink Prada tote in hand, she is always ready for a business meeting or a trip to the boardwalk.
Kristina loves functional fashion. With these mirrored sunglasses by Marc Jacobs, she can block out the sun and try out a trend in one go, and with Zara's culotte shorts, she gets the look of a skirt with the form and flexibility of shorts!
What summer necessities will you be rocking this season?
