THE BEST
Some recent drawthread requests. I wanted to add more game progress before I posted these but I’ve been spinning my wheels a bit there, so these built up. Progress on that front soon. I hope.
Drawthread requests 3/13/2016 I tried pretty hard on Monica. I’m happy with the main body but not really anything else.
Drawthread request, VERY early VERY rough animation test for the game (that I don’t think I’ll stick with--it’s a bit to animated and showy) based on Esmerelda from Hunchback of Notre Dame, and some quick monster girls just because it came up.
The first run cycle I ever tried to animate, about five days ago, and a few milestones between there and my finished run cycle. The final product isn’t perfect from any means, but it’s a long way from where I started. I wanted to post this up because it’s a great example about how if you want to learn to do something, you should just DO THE THING. Listen to memetic Shia Labeouf and JUST DO IT. People only get good at things by being bad at them first. Do the thing, be trash at it, figure out what went wrong, do it again, be slightly less trash at it, watch how some other people did it, do it again, be slightly better, watch some tutorials, do it again and repeat ad finitum until you’re happy with what you’ve done. You can do the thing.
Sprite work I’ve been doing for a video game I’m trying to make. First picture is early concepts (chibi sprites are much harder for me than normal proportioned sprites, which I did not anticipate), second was final concepts for the two MCs, third is an early mockup environment, fourth is the MCs run cycle. I’m pretty happy with how things look so far. Still have a lot of work to do, though. Working title is “Tale of an Arabian Night”
Recent drawthread deliveries.
So, in my art history class today, my professor was talking about something that is so fuckin awesome.
These are warrior shields from the Wahgi people of Papua New Guinea. The warriors paint them with imagery meant to symbolize animals who have traits they wish to embody in battle. These depictions are intended to give the person using it the powers of what they’re depicting.
Now. Look at this Wahgi shield:
Hmm. That looks a bit different from the others.
That looks VERY different. Why, it looks like
The Phantom… American comic book character by Lee Falk. And that’s because it is.
The Wahgi people were isolated from the rest of the “modern” world until 1933. They came into contact with WWII service men who shared some aspects of western culture with the tribesmen. In particular, they showed them the comic books they read while shipped out. The Wahgi loved them. In particular, the Wahgi adored the stories of the Phantom, who wasn’t even particularly popular in its home of America.
He is so popular that the few Wahgi who can read english will read the comics out loud in the village center and hold out the pages for everyone to see, so the whole tripe can enjoy them and marvel at the Phantom’s might in battle.
They identify with the Phantom because he came from a jungle territory, like them, wore a mask to fight, like them, and came from a long line of warriors, which the Wahgi, who worshiped their ancestors, deeply respected. Further, despite not really having superpowers, the Phantom is strong, clever, and incredibly fast. He was so fast that his enemies began to believe that he was impervious to bullets and could not be killed.
Therefore, the Wahgi began painting HIM on their shields to invoke HIS abilities in battle. There are TONS of Phantom-Wahgi shields out there.
So, you might think that you’re huge comic book fan, but the Wahgi have taken their Phantom fandom to the next level and have made the Phantom a fucking talisman to carry into battle for strength.
More pictures here!
Completely forgot about these dudes.
People that are inspired and can connect with fictional character that AREN’T their own race or creed?
But modern day comics have told me that that is IMPOSSIBLE!!!
Crazy right?
This is the coolest thing ever
Drew a lot today. Drawthread requests, studying a photograph in an attempt to understand anatomy in perspective a bit more, and studying another guy’s drawing because how the fuck did he give that leg depth without any shading at all goddamn what you just drew the right shape how does that work.
Drawthread requests and a crap first attempt at designing a character for a game idea I had.
Drawings from O Comic Con 2016 Trying to practice drawing backgrounds, and my attempt to study Bryan Fyffe’s Dead Cosmonaught from across the room during a panel
Drawthread requests from 7/11/16
I drew a picture of Miriam because hype for the game
one screw to make, one screw up to take
This is legitimately how I feel when someone offers me the chance to hold their child I have also been known to drop things in such a dramatic fashion that they shatter important bits from mere feet off the ground I don’t hate your baby I am just incredibly terrified that I will end it
thanks!!!!! I’m doing more of these, this was really fun hahaha
How is she going to drink that coffee?
