This is a post written by a Jikooker from my country. I think it's a really thoughtful piece with a deep perspective on Jikook's current relationship and how it's changed after their military service. I used a translation tool, so it might not be entirely accurate. I just wanted to share it with you because I remember reading one of your posts where you also noticed this shift. ...
My friend recently sent me a few thoughts shared by Korean Jikookers on 스핀스핀 (Spin-Spin). Reading their reflections and perspectives — as people who share the same cultural background and linguistic nuances as Jikook — made me realize just how much I had unintentionally overlooked before.
Thanks to them, I feel like I’ve finally begun to decode the answers to two questions that I believe aren’t just mine alone — but ones that everyone who followed Jikook's 18-month military journey must have wondered at some point:
Why, once assigned to their base, did they make every possible effort to be together, even during their limited time?
And why is it that after discharge, not only did their relationship, but even who they are as individuals, show such clear transformation?
This post isn’t just a compilation of Jikookers’ thoughts, but also the musings between me and my friend as we chatted and pieced together things we noticed. I wanted to record it — to reflect on it and to await the upcoming AYS Season 2. Hopefully, it will offer something meaningful to others too. Enjoy the read! —
The Jikook post-discharge live was relatively short and didn’t delve too deeply into any specifics. But even so, what they shared was more than enough to affirm one thing: enlisting together meant a great deal to them.
Right from the first day of boot camp, you could see it — the way the two of them huddled together, whispering nonstop to each other. That small moment alone already spoke volumes about the strength and depth of their bond.
Yet Jimin revealed that he was struggling a lot emotionally during those first 5 weeks of basic training. It wasn’t even the official start of military life, but his mental state was already in turmoil. Even mundane daily routines — eating, brushing his teeth, trying to fall asleep — all weighed heavily on him.
Meanwhile, Jungkook adjusted more easily. He was relatively relaxed, free from major worries. At night, he even tossed his pillow aside just to sleep using Jimin’s arm as a pillow, so comfortably that Jimin would wake up to the numbness in his arm and Jungkook’s snoring in his ear — and still let him rest there. But that easygoing Jungkook became Jimin’s emotional anchor, helping him survive those early difficult days.
But things shifted once they were officially assigned to their permanent units — Jungkook to Artillery Squad 2, and Jimin to Squad 4. That’s when their realities changed. The pressure of real military duties and the harsh physical demands hit Jungkook hard. He began struggling, both mentally and physically. That’s likely why he was eventually reassigned to the kitchen as a support soldier — a better fit for him.
Still, one thing never changed: Jimin was always there. Listening, comforting, encouraging him through the hard times. That shift in their roles — from Jungkook being the strong one to Jimin supporting him — spoke volumes. It was never one-sided. Their care for each other was mutual, equal, and deeply rooted.
Jimin even sang with Jungkook — whenever he could. Jungkook once shyly mentioned in a live how he and Jimin spent a lot of time talking about songs during their time in the army. After finishing work in the kitchen, Jungkook would go find Jimin, and they would hum together — every single day. Sometimes they’d go off to sing somewhere together. Even in the showers, they sang “Goodbye” by Park Hyo Shin. Jungkook said, “We sang it literally every day.”
Like that, Jikook took turns being each other’s safe place.
We’ve heard so many little moments — how they tried to make time for each other despite their conflicting schedules. But even so, for them, it seems like that time still never felt like enough.
𝐐. “When the hyung said, ‘I heard you two sing together so much, some days it was 10 hours straight,’ Jimin laughed and replied, ‘We couldn’t possibly be together that much. He’s in the kitchen, and I’m elsewhere…’ But if that much time spent together still isn’t enough for them… then what is? Are we the only ones who feel like they’re constantly glued together? Meanwhile, they feel like they’re not together enough… Ah…”
𝐀. “But really, that’s probably how they feel. Listening to them, it never once sounded like they were sick of each other. Instead, they seemed regretful that their duties kept them apart.”
The Korean Jikooker pointed out that Jimin didn’t use the language of denial like “붙어 있을 리가 없잖아요” (There’s no way we were together that much), but rather said “붙어 있을 수가 없어요” (We couldn’t be together that much) — speaking to limitation, not rejection. It wasn’t that they didn’t want to be together more, but that they couldn’t because of their assigned roles.
We imagined what that must have felt like. Jungkook starting work early and finishing late due to his kitchen duties. Even when Jimin finished earlier, he’d wait for Jungkook in the lounge. Jungkook, returning exhausted, still smelling of food, all he wanted was to shower — but he’d lie down and wait for Jimin instead. Jimin, slow and dawdling, made Jungkook grumble “AGHHH!” — but still, they waited for each other every day, just to go to the shower together.
Despite their jobs pulling them in different directions, they always found ways to support each other. Like Jimin volunteering to help Jungkook in the kitchen for a whole week because he knew Jungkook had no weekends off. Or Jungkook preparing meals and packing Jimin’s favorite dishes to take with him on long-range field training. Those little acts revealed how deeply they cared.
There was a genuine tenderness in how they looked after each other. Even when separated, they found ways to feel close.
Or as they once said — they practiced singing together so much that just making eye contact would instantly trigger harmony. Just a glance and: “A~ 🎶” 🫴 My friend joked it was practically musical theatre. LOL
The joint live appearances, the playful yet intimate moments, the sightings during leave, the synchronized phone log-ins during times they weren’t supposed to be using phones... Even that quiet private Tokyo trip before discharge. All of it shows just how much they valued even the limited time they had.
Their desire to be near each other wasn’t simply romantic — it was rooted in something deeper: a longing for presence, comfort, and companionship. —
On how they’ve changed:
My friend often says: communication is the foundation of every relationship. And Jikook in the army? They talked. A lot. Daily. Deeply. They talked through everything — from trivial comforts to future dreams.
In Jimin’s Daesang thank-you note in November 2024 — two-thirds into their service — you could feel that excitement. He wrote: “These days, I’ve been talking with Jungkookie a lot. We’re already excited, imagining what kind of songs and performances we’ll bring to you after we’re discharged.”
But just two months later, in his 2025 New Year letter, something had shifted.
Jimin wrote: “After the new year, the conversations I’ve had with Jungkookie before bed have changed a lot. Because the day we meet ARMYs again is drawing near, we’ve been talking about how we want to appear, how we want to live in the future...”
That one phrase — “how we want to live in the future” — was a turning point.
No longer just colleagues talking about music and performance. But two people beginning to seriously consider a shared life. The shift from “what we’ll do” to “how we’ll live” was subtle, but profound.
And it wasn’t just Jimin. Jungkook changed too. My friend noted that by December 2024, Jungkook still had his lovable energy, but after discharge — something was different. He was calmer. More grounded. Like someone who had decided to love someone in a mature, responsible way.
Maybe it was the stillness of military nights — no cameras, no lights — just quiet. Space to speak freely. To think deeply. Those nightly talks might’ve started with music or fans… but somewhere along the way, they started dreaming about the future — not as idols, but as people.
And it was in those moments, that their relationship began to change.

𝐐. “Hey… I think after watching Are You Sure, Jungkook has officially shed his 'whiny puppy boyfriend who loves food' title. Now he’s more like a dependable husband… who still loves food. LOL. Maybe playing with younger soldiers helped cure his childish streak? After 10+ years as the maknae, he became the eldest in the kitchen — had to cook for everyone, take care of others. Maybe that matured him…”
𝐀. “OMG the ‘got therapied by younger soldiers’ line is hilarious. Imagine him sighing like: ‘Ah these kids…’ and then pausing, realizing: ‘Wait... is this what Jiminie hyung saw in me all this time??’ And boom — revelation! But even if he became the dependable husband now, he’ll never shake that foodie rep.”
𝐐. “Reading all the Spin-Spin requests recently made me realize something — maybe, after two years of being the official one responsible for someone, it’s become second nature for Jungkook.
Yes, he’s always taken care of Jimin. But back then, they had hyungs, staff, people around to help. In the army? It was just them. Two people. Relying completely on each other.
They did everything together — unless on duty. Showered together. Took leave together. No clear ‘your job’ or ‘my job’. They just… cared for each other. Naturally. And now, that habit of looking after each other seems… permanent. (My brain is exploding just thinking about it;;;)
Sure, society would label that as being ‘partners’ or ‘support roles’ or ‘colleagues.’
But when feelings are involved? It awakens something deeper. A ‘boyfriend’… a ‘husband’… maybe even a life partner.
Putting shoes out for each other. Glancing back to make sure the other is following. Noticing instantly when the other pauses. Knowing each other’s routines, moods, schedules. And speaking without thinking — pure instinctual care.
These are skills unlocked in the military… And I don’t know how to survive this ‘upgraded Jikook’ version 😱 I need heart massages and dopamine regulation plans, STAT.”
𝐀. “Wait. Are you saying... that Jikook, post-military, have officially soulbonded? Like… this is a MAJOR event. Another MAJOR Jikook event.
But honestly, I agree. That time alone — just the two of them — away from their company, members, staff — it was like throwing more fuel into a flame that was already burning bright. They’re acting like two people… meant for each other. Like they’ve merged into one soul. Ha…ㅋㅋㅜ
What will they show us next? What’s even going to be in Are You Sure Season 2? I’m excited and terrified. Everyone, buckle up. We’re about to witness a whole new chapter of Jikook…”

If before, we used to say that Jimin “let” Jungkook speak informally and allowed him to act like the one in charge — giving him equality in the relationship — now, their relationship has transcended that dynamic.
There’s no more back-and-forth of “who leads, who follows.” They’ve become two halves of a complete whole. Life partners in the truest sense — walking together, sharing, building, and carrying this bond together.
That’s why, post-military, something feels different. Not just on the surface — but deep within.
Jimin now shines with the light of someone who is loved — deeply, securely. There’s a brightness to him — a peace, a gentleness — like he’s living in the warmth of absolute trust.
And Jungkook? He’s taken on the form of someone who loves with quiet strength. Emotionally steady. Mature. Not just supportive — but actively protective and present in how he cares.
That contrast — one radiant in peace, the other solid in love — is the clearest evidence of a bond that has reached full maturity. No longer finding balance — but being balance. They’ve truly found home in each other.
—
There are probably thousands — even millions — of reasons why their relationship didn’t just survive the 18-month military stretch, but evolved into something far stronger. It didn’t just progress — it transcended. It leveled up.
Because their relationship was never “just” friendship. Even before the army, it had deep, enduring roots. Like when they said:
🐥: “Honestly, I’m not at all worried about us fighting.” 🐰: waves hand “Me neither.” 🐥: “Actually, I think we’ll lean on each other a lot.” 🐰: “Yeah. Same here.”
Sure, they fought. But they had the strength to resolve it. To grow from it. They didn’t just say they’d be okay — they lived it. And more.
Jikook have returned. But they are changed.
Stronger. Steadier. And serious.
And we’re so ready to see what Are You Sure Season 2 will reveal.
Even if we can only guess at a portion of what truly shifted inside them — it’s enough to fill us with gratitude. For knowing them. For witnessing a love this rare and… oddly magical.
—
My friend and I keep joking lately that: If AYS Season 1 was about Jimin taking care of his mischievous puppy boyfriend, Then AYS Season 2… is about Jungkook taking his beloved life partner on a trip. LOL
Anon, thank you for sharing this with me. With all of us, really. I’m sure everyone will agree with what that Jikooker said. This was beautifully said.
Beautifully said 💜
