I was going to open more noc eggs yesterday for new years but I’m on break from school and time has no meaning and I forgot what day it was
I had 1,800 gems in my vault and was considering starting another gene project for one of my new gen one nocs, but PUPPIES
With capsule now I and my dragons can both be full of mountain dew
Doritos® dust body with Mountain Dew® filled belly
Dew have an apparel now yay!
edit: and I gave her capsule ~♪
got a wind egg from the new venue! I also got an eliminate yesterday from a boss fight so that was nice
I drew a shiny boy.
Everyone: Bison Tundra species, moose Tundras, yak Tundras, majestic and powerful
Me: Llama Tundras
Everytime i get a single item back from gathering turns i like to think its a hatchling helping out and learning how to hunt or gather.
Furthermore imagine the adult dragons not expecting it. Like all the hunters and gatherers line up to put their hauls in the food stores and theres this tiny spiral holding a handful of grass in one paw and a bug in the other and everyone is just so PROUD of the little one.
I managed to snag 2 copies of jaguar this morning so I bought a triple radioactive bog and a radioactive/radioactive/leaf bog and gave them both jaguar
I just hatched a triple gold petals/butterfly/opal, and there are only 2 other xxx gold dergs with those genes on the site. there are also only 7 xxx petals/butterfly/opal on the AH right now, the cheapest being 250kt. I’m assuming the rarity of the triple gold would make it worth more than that?? unless it’s rare because no one likes this color?
any advice on pricing?
wHAT
I didn’t see the note on the festival post that said you could brew a token until this morning .... RIP
I had to stalk the marketplace for days but I got all the anniversary apparel sets.
(pluto, the male tundra, isn’t finished yet but I’m maxed out at Baldwin and haven’t wanted to brew any more apparel just yet. he’s also wearing the ghost flame wing ribbon)
masterpost bc im proud of them and want them all in one spot so i can look at them (will update when i make a new one)
I got a light egg, a boss familiar, and two chests this evening from grinding the arena, plus a bunch of battle stones (including regeneration, 2 berserkers, concentration, and bolster).
What WAS the FR community thinking when the general populace voted to cycle the bears back in every year? I joined in June 2015, so I wasn't there. :p
Well, a few things! There were two primary schools of thought when it came to voting the bears into cyclage, one of them was pure miscommunication- there was an understanding by some of us (myself included) that the bears’ return (As iirc, it wasn’t actually referred to as a ‘cycle’ at that time) would be a one time thing- basically, at the end of the year, there would be one final holiday blowout, where the chosen returnable item would show up in an unspecified holiday (We didn’t know it would be NotN yet, we had no idea what sort of event to expect, since originally December (and before that January) was going to be a breather month with no holidays at all. Most people were expecting a Beastclan type thing, if we’re being honest.), and be obtainable again FOR that holiday, before retiring forever. Basically one last big smash and grab for the year for anyone who missed a festival or had just joined. I voted for the return on that understanding. I wasn’t the only one.
On the other hand, we had, well. Greed. Even as the FR new year was drawing to a close, the price of the early sprites, particularly Light and Fire, were already skyrocketing, becoming rarer and harder to obtain. A lot of people assumed that the bears would skyrocket like that as well, and still others assumed that if the new familiars returned, so would the Sprites, and wanted the opportunity to make fast fat fists of cash without very much effort. It was a general misunderstanding of how an economy works, and how this festival was going to work. Please remember, absolutely none of us had any idea what we were in for com December, and we voted way back in May, I do believe. Possibly earlier. and FR used to have quite the reputation for poor communication, even worse so than it does now.
But the thing is, we’ve backed ourselves into a very interesting corner. In June of 2017. we’re going to start seeing Joxar’s Boxes- essentially a condensed version of the original cycle concept, that staff hopes will help maintain some form of scarcity, without plummeting the value. This means that with the introduction of the limited-time brew familiar the Loga, we have not received a single genuine, farmable, limited-time item in Flight Rising since June of 2015. In fact, the possibility stands that due to our choice with the bears and with the cycling in the first place, we may never get a purely limited, retirable item again- I am of course, excluding user-made skins/accents, and unique anniversary gifts. Those are, as a general rule, not farmable- you cannot get a spare unless you are buying it off someone else, and their number is strictly limited to the number of active players in the instant of the gifts being delivered. That means that really, the only limited items in existence on the site, the only items that are guaranteed to appreciate in value over time, will come from the first two years of gameplay- assuming of course, that staff stays permanently true to their word about never bringing these things back.
FASCINATING isn’t it?!
Another thing to consider is that, even if the community had voted to never bring back the bears, the newer festival items would still appreciate more slowly.
Back in 2013/2014, we didn’t have access to Baldwin. There weren’t even nearly as many people playing (especially during the first few months of the site’s opening), so the only way to get currency for the festivals was through gathering, and coli grinding (also consider that back then, at least in 2013, dominance didn’t give you the same benefits we see now; I think the gathering turns were fewer? and only one flight had dominance at a time. Also, the coli lagged a LOT and was often unstable, making grinding more difficult or, at times, impossible). So because of a small userbase and a much more limited access to currency, those items are naturally going to be less common. Additionally, many older players who may have acquired multiples of these items have left, so they’ll never see circulation unless the player returns.
But with the addition of new players, the coliseum’s stabilization. and the dominance overhaul allowing a much larger collective amount of gathering to be done, more currency could be generated which also meant more festival items could be generated. Even if the userbase had remained the same size, there still would have been a slow uptick in currency generation, allowing for the acquisition of more festival items.
Throw Baldwin into the mix and each player is able to generate up to 1,680 festival currency during the festival’s duration through Baldwin alone. The bears would probably have appreciated some, but not nearly as much as the Sprites did.
Sigh. At one point, I would have said that the Sprites should remain retired. I don’t feel that way anymore. I think the players should be able to have a chance to obtain the old festival items and honestly? The 7000g+ pricetag for some of the stuff is pretty ridiculous and greedy, and for a lot of players, unobtainable. And maybe my philosophy differs from others’, but that really doesn’t seem very fun to me. Yes it’s good to have something to work toward, but there are other ways that can be implemented that are far more enjoyable than leaving players at the mercy of the FR economy.
I’m torn. In most games I play, I hate Holiday Items being retired permanently (ex: in WoW I accept I will never have the blizzcon pets, because they were a one time thing, but i love getting another chance to get all the brewfest pets this year since i missed two years in a row)
alternately in this game I appreciate having rare items that can be liquidate for funds and is only getting more expensive. Currency is a pain to get in this game.
alternately alternately: a lot of players, a lot, never got the chance to even get one. one just to fill out the bestiary, or to be cute and match with a dragon.
(BTW: Side note I fucking hate that i can see KS familiars, and that there’s not a system to auto exclude retired familiars from view until you obtain one so you can never truly complete the bestiary, because those empty KS spots will always be staring at you, teasing you…. fucking boolean…. I guess mmo collection systems have spoiled me but its a consistent pet peeve of mine.)
I think i’m ramblings, idk, what I would like to see hmmm. Sometime. Maybe to celebrate the official public opening of FR, when they permanently open registration, they could have a cute week-long event, and people could have the option to earn event currency and purchase one of each of the Sprites. They have the coding for a one time purchase, since they’re implementing it with the new chests in june, so they could possibly do it for familiars. and that would give all the registered players between year one and that time to fill out their bestiary more (or sell them if they don’t care about the bestiary up to them)
It’s weird they went from one extreme to the other, sprites are ridiculously rare and with no plans to come back, making them familiar god-status. while year two the bears, have been brought back and recolored so much they should feel ashamed of themselves. We are drowning in bears. I don’t hate the bears, we are just D R O W N I N G in second-year familiars. There are so many of them, their only value anymore is as crafting muck- that’s embarrassing for a holiday familiar. The third year familiars aren’t even this bad because they brought back the second years again instead of the soldiers. w… whhaaaaai?
I really just want the bears to be permanently retired now. Free the Bear.
Unpopular? Opinion: I want awakened familiars to be permanent entries in the bestiary
