klaus resists the urge to give his brother one quick bite to the jugular. he won't be acting so cocky when he has to get on his knees and beg for the blood of his hybrid brother to save him. he could also dagger him, make him sleep it off until hope grows older and starts her own family. he should get more credit for his restraint these days.

elijah only settles further back into his seat when klaus stands, hands coming to clasp together over his middle, elbows resting on the arms of the chair. glancing towards the glass in his brother's hand and back to his angered expression, he only tilts his head. dramatic and theatrical. well, he most certainly has that part right. elijah does try to take him seriously when these moments happen, but he does tend to go off course quite a bit. give it a few minutes.

gaze never leaves the hunter in front of him. the man can't kill him, but he really doesn't want to have to buy another suit because the other believed he let his guard down. dean winchester. he's heard a great deal of him and his brother — father too. elijah remembers the run-in he had with john ... it wasn't very pleasant. he had only hoped the sons would be smarter and better than their father. so far he's hoped correctly. the stories what are whispered, the fear they've ingrained in several generations of supernatural creatures has definitely piqued his interest.

elijah keeps his composure however, no fear nor does he feel threatened. he could snap him like a twig and not think twice about it if he truly wanted to. he's sure the other believes the same. " have you now... " voice is level as he looks dean over, once again cataloging his attire and possible weapons. such awful attire. " then i'm sure you know better than to pull the stake hidden in your jacket, yes? if shoved into my chest, it may stall me, but i assure you — you will dead before your brother could pull that trigger. far too many things have happened lately — far too many things to list. the most recent one, however, cuts deeper than elijah would have ever imagined. he has felt guilt before. he has felt loss. yet, what he feels now is much more intense. he killed marcel. there was no hesitation, no blink of an eye, before his hand was through his chest, ripping out his heart to save his family — a family that he had once considered marcel to be a part of. his grief has become so overwhelming that he's considered shutting it off again. he never liked doing that, but the ache is almost unbearable.

his silence doesn't seem to go unnoticed. those around him have begun to question his state of well-being. he's fine because he has to be. someone has to keep niklaus from tearing the city apart, even if he may be on his list of victims. with the age of the two of them, elijah feels a sense of ease here ... a place he can be honest.
