Nothing There as a concept in ACTUAL LobCorp canon is (in my opinion) about "shallow" mimicry, and the fear that something could just so ever be like you, with its intelligence, its form, yet is very obviously NOT on closer look. Yet, something that gets closer to you every time it tries.
I, for one, want to change the essence of Nothing There. It is stated that Nothing There only repeats words, and it doesn't understand meaning. Yet, is that really true?
For how intelligent seeming O-06-20 is, I find it really hard to believe that NT simply doesn't think nor understand.
Why shouldn't NT mimic intelligence? Understanding? Meaning? Critical thinking? That is why I want to make Nothing There a half-step away from true sapience.
That, however, requires me to build up Nothing There, and that allows me a lot of liberty in writing out what NT can mimic.
Mimicry shouldn't come easily. Speech is still hard, and NT without sufficient data will have a hare time saying things, despite the fact that its always getting better.
Thinking, is one thing I want to really, really want to make important. The way Nothing There connects two pieces of information. How one description changes the way it perceives the meaning of a word and the relations of the words around it.
How, with guidance, it might see other abnormalities as siblings given the correct stimulus.
What love means, when it's being given.
Nothing There shouldn't have a complex, inner thinking process. It's way more interesting to see it make connections in real time through dialogue.
NT should be able to perceive and think, and respond in kind even if it doesn't understand the meaning behind a word or what its relation is with other words.
I wish to make him truly sapient/sentient eventually, even if that doesn't follow LobCorp canon.
