idk man i think their connection as a family being purposefully made ambiguous is meant to make us question what kind of bond they really had considering the idea of a grandfather has been scrapped and the mentor role has been left vacant before the idea of wingdings could be born. and also the way his character is kind of centered around scrapped concepts
Found out Japanese fans call NormalNPC Tokuni-Hon (as in "Especially books") and was initially like oh that's cute but apparently they specifically do so because of this ???!!!
Do you have any other thoughts on the new FRIEND info in terms of what it means for Gaster’s character?

so we went from pirate to gru, huh...
i feel like when it comes to gaster, people latch a little too much on any shiny new piece of information, even if it's the vaguest thing possible. it's okay to admit we don't know what's going on for certain when it comes to him, because that's exactly the point of his character — attaching oneself to confirmation biases or loose details is exactly what poisons one's perception of a fictional character. there is a story being told, so we have to consider the big picture. To put it simply, i have a lot more questions now LOL
for instance, if we consider the forgotten man to be the wingdings from that world, isn't our Friend(s) actually being his mischievous pet(s) contradictory when he's also known to be in hiding, appearance a mystery and now has a guard dog? Either he knows what to do with those eggs to win the beast's favour, or he's at least a little scared of cats too. Which makes for great parallels with Alphys (a known cat person with a huge plural dog in her basement), as well as with Papyrus (always dealing with dogs munching on his bones rather than cats taking away his one forgettable egg). Maybe the skelefamily had a squabble over cats or dogs in a past life. Turns out, the ideal pet for them is, in fact, a rock.
as for me, I strongly believe our little friend(s) have much deeper ties with noelle and the FIND HER quest. even if I am a cat person myself and enjoy the idea of Wingdings with a horde of kitties begging him for treats... did you know eggs can make them hypoallergenic?

In cat petterz, cats are born from eggs. The forgotten man (wingdings from that world?) lent her an egg, because it is what he does for those who need his help. The egg was well taken care of and then ran off, as Noelle didn't need him anymore. Maybe it hatched out of our sight? Not because it was supposed to, but because it was well cared, it is now something. A friend. Or maybe something else just ate it and the friend aspect was assimilated, giving it shape and identity.
It is curious to me too, that the voice in the datamined lines (december?) mentions hearing scratching at times, like there's something in the deepest dark with her but there is no way for it to reach her, like a sad animal pawing at the door. Spamton, the cat's previous chase, echoes the voice. Didn't pink say they look for protein? Why is spamton, darkner of spam mail, considered delicious? pippis. pippis are eggs. The cat is many. Friends love delicious little eggs to add to their enCATeny. Having collected so many eggs will probably make it more challenging to deal with them — an issue. With Noelle, however, it could behave, since she's always been good friends with cats.
Lost where the forest would grow, the children followed the pointed tail. But when did that happen? Is it yet to happen? Because Catti says they tried to summon a demon, and we know the aftermath of that attempt was, in fact, an actual dark world through Asgore. Where does the pointed tail fit?
Roots. The shelter's dark world is especially dark, no windows for any photons to get in and so, so cold. The forest can reach there, a forest of roots. The cat is a special darkner — it isn't bothered by dark world compatibility and it only spawns in areas of deep darkness, so this might have taken place (or still will) within the shelter. It might guide us where we need to go, or ambush us as we follow its tail. As a trickster character, the line between helping and obstructing is very, very blurred. Certainly it is our friend, but it plays aggressively and will never hand anything on a silver platter. Certainly it is our friend, but it will plant doubt in your heart before you beat it and give you encouraging words. Without play, the knife grows dull.
If there is any point in common between Wingdings and the entity, is that both enjoy it when we take up on overcoming harder challenges, maybe just to see if we can FINDHER.ogg — with your heart as the ark which shall shine you the way.
Hey, didn't Ralsei mention a cat while he was baby-proofing that song? The song specifically mentioning a demon heart and a burning fight? Huh, it could be nothing.
A recent patch to Deltarune Chapter 5 adds new dialogue to Mew Mew's shop if you've beaten her battle, collected the egg AND found the IMAGE_FRIEND secret... Shockingly important dialogue to be added in a patch LOL
