Howdy! I love your art style—and especially the texture and subtle color variations

How do you do those?? Is it like an overlay or a specific brush setting or something else?

Good eye! It is a kind of both, actually

I've always loved a little bit of this color buzz in drawings. And while in my fully rendered works I use a different painting technique (lmk if you want to see this one as well), with sketches I want to work faster.

So, here's the trick:

BASICALLY, you just cover your drawing with colorful spots on a separate layer, set it to overlay and lower the opacity

However, doing it manually can be quite a pain, and having it as a set texture is a little boring. So here's a quick tutorial on how to make a colorful brush in Krita and do the same thing in one stroke:

STEP 1 Find yourself a nice spotty brush. I use this one for additional texture, but any stamp-like brush will suffice

STEP 2 In brush settings find the tab Color, and then under it find Source

STEP 3 Set the source to Uniform random (Total random is just noise). Save your new brush. After that it will start acting like this:

STEPS 4-6 Then you just need to cover your drawing with that stuff, set it to overlay (i also use color dodge on lighter drawings), and lower the opacity to around 20%.

BONUS Now for a more textured look you can also add an overlay with some colorful noise

And there you have it! The difference is very subtle, but it still adds a little bit of hue and saturation variation, which is how colors work in real life
