I love it when you can pick up an animator’s quirks.

     I’ve read in old interviews with Milt Khal’s fellow animators that he did the swaggle to purposefully show off. Moving the head in 3-d space is an exceptionally hard thing to do but Khal upped the level of difficulty to a place many animators wouldn’t go.      Not only are they all doing the swaggle you’ll notice they are all TALKING while they are doing it. This is back in the days where you had to use a timing sheet to pace your animation and a head swaggle doesn’t work if its too slow or too fast so he had to figure out the right speed so it looked natural while the character finishes what they have to say while not interfering with the distinct mouth shapes.       Not only did Khal do it without any shifting weight problems or timing issues he would often do it while moving the rest of the body. This isn’t his signature move just because he was good at it.This is his signature move because he was one of the only people skilled enough to DO IT AT ALL.

Milt Khal was a MASTER.

Things I wish people understood about systems

- If one alter knows about a trauma and another alter doesn’t, do not tell them about the trauma. Ever. There’s a reason they don’t remember.

- If you’re close with an alter and they suddenly stop fronting for a while, understand that it’s likely not your fault. Even if they want to front, sometimes they just can’t.

- If you hurt a little in any way at all, expect a protector to come and promptly get angry. They can’t help it, it’s their job.

- LITTLES ARE CHILDREN

- If you wouldn’t do/say something to an actual child don’t do it to a little

- Understand that not all alters will have the same feelings for you

- alters are people not just personalities

- when grounding doesn’t work so you stand in the rain for an hour just trying to feel

- when people are clapping and you make vague efforts to but then it just does work

- when dissociating just leads to the weirdest nap you’ve ever had

- never really wanting to get high bc trauma is enough to make you feel the same

- grounding with ice-cubes just leads numb hands and more unreal

God it’s so fucking awkward for me to go from dating to just friends. Cause the breakup wasn’t a mutually agreed thing and now I’m just “I STILL LIKE YOU PRICK.”

Dating Tip

Don’t brush off your partner’s other alters, even if they aren’t romantically involved with you. Listen to their advice, warnings, and comments. They’re just as important to consider as your partner’s.

Other times, your partner’s alters can help your partner voice things they have trouble voicing themselves.
