i am plagued by idw shockwave
shockop painting i finished. i love drawing optimus gundam cat ears…
anyway go my korg
i will always think about the "fear is the mother of disorder" whenever i read the whole fear lantern thing. like. like. like.
how did we get here
evil green lantern.
thinking about thaal sinestro in an alternate universe where the writers decided to keep on and full send on the idea of him just being evil green lantern. a world where emerald dawn ii never happened. a world where he was corrupted and became evil and blah blah, his original conception.
and WITH that context, i feel like the whole fear thing works a lot better.
like it is really interesting because if you REMOVE emerald dawn ii from his characterization, you kind of have a completely different character. not so difficult that he's Unrecognizable, so to say, but like...you don't have his need for order; which makes the whole sinestro corp make a lot more sense for his character, because rather than getting a bend of the concept of an evil green lantern--he wants order SO bad that it corrupts him--you're more likely to get an evil green lantern in the context of just, the power corrupts, he wants the OPPOSITE of what green lanterns want, which is chaos.
if you remove emerald dawn ii you also remove the huge aspect of his character that is his obsession with hal jordan.
there's still him facing off against hal jordan, of course, but its less in a comradery way(if you can even call it that, words are just failing me at the moment) and you just have oh this is my nemesis or my villain. this isn't a potential manipulator, this is just a guy that gets in the way and causes trouble and chaos. it's like-- it's in a way, less complex, but also opens up the opportunity to have a different kind of dynamic.
and its interesting to think about when considering how sinestro is written after spectre.
i don't know, i think are a lot of fun ways you can take sinestro and its one of the things that makes him such a fun character to look into because of just how different he's written by literally Every Single Writer. like i love emerald dawn ii and spectre, and how he's written in both...but i won't even lie, he is a VERY different character in both. there are absolutely ways that you can bend the stories so that they fit together; but you have to Really think about what is the important part about sinestro. i would almost say that the original sinestro, in his introduction, is closer to the "cosmic spite" of his appearance in spectre, as opposed to being closer to emerald dawn ii's depiction.
but its ALSO fun to think about sinestro with the context of ALL of those depictions being canon and trying to play mind games to get them all to fit together, and then you get into the idea of the evolution of someone's mind they go through when their entire foundation is ripped out from beneath them.
either way, i like both. i LIKE a character that is just evil for the sake of being evil, and that WAS sinestro in his original comics. but i also really really really like the more complex character sinestro gets later on. it feels like being a sinestro fan is half questioning who even IS sinestro. who is this character that we like so much, because i really could not tell you without having to do this every time.
like.
these are not the same character.
JFIODSJIOFSODJIFJOSIDF LIKE!!!!! BUT THEY ARE. like i feel like i'm going insane because sinestro is NOT the only example of a comic character going through drastic change throughout their publication, and the three examples above are from three very different eras (60s, 90s, 2000s), but also there is usually SOME connecting thread between these sorts of things to get between them. for sinestro ESPECIALLY this is even more prominent and i honestly could not tell you why LOL. it's kind of awesome. because even though they are very much, not the same, these are three of my favourite comics for sinestro; i love old cheesy sinestro at first, i'm normal about emerald dawn ii, and i fucking adore spectre sinestro.
but come on.
it's kind of awesome. it is extremely fun to do mind games trying to connect these drastically different characterizations into one coherent character.
crazy to me that shockwave has never had a Bad design. all of his designs throughout all of his appearances have literally been peak

Could you draw... Creature Sinestro... (´▽`)
A little sinestro creature for you
it was kinda funny the other day we got long boxes full of bulk books. And I shit you not there were at least 10 copies of emerald dawn ii issue 1. i can't escape
i keep thinking about sinestro this is a problem. i keep thinking about that stupid trailer. maybe it'll be like how a lot of good sinestro content shows up in bad comics. and somehow. sinestro will be good.
i say this knowing that i already don't really like how he looks and he already has a 50/50 line delivery and and and
all my favourite characters have been purple.
something horrific presented in the comics on how shockwave used to be very pastel and the implication that he would constantly be changing his colours to express how he was feeling. and how he's just. well.
