I haven’t posted in a while, so here, have a thing.
This song is dark, gruesome, and incredibly bloody, as far as writing goes. However, the feeling this hits, muscially, is absolutely wonderful.
Ai Ohsera’s vocals are always a treat, but Mizonokuchi Hole Studio’s mix of Modularity of Mind does her a great service. A song written for the vocalist, and mixed for the sweet, almost bitter taste of musical dark chocolate.
Young Descendant of Tepes is an incredibly underrated theme, for its presence in one of the most popular Touhou games in the franchise. It’s where the era started, and I honestly don’t think Scarlet Devil’s stage themes get enough attention, at least compared to the big theme carried by either Scarlet Sister. As a passing note, I’m also incredibly fond of Centennial Festival, Flan’s stage theme, and I think that Young Descendant fits Remi far more than Septette does. Shame the stage themes got passed over, mostly...
This though? It hits all the notes, covers all the bases, and comes home in time for dinner filling each and every one of the 287 seconds that it has with emotion and that delectable musical taste that only this style of music can bring forth, seasoned with Ai Ohsera’s wonderful, wonderful voice.
It’s a service to both the theme, the original arrange by ENS, and Ai’s delectable vocals. Very rarely does everything slide into place so well, and I can’t help but share this everywhere when it does. I hope you enjoy this as much as I have been, the last few days.

We’re on day three of a very, very long Plug session. Come join if you want
Marasy is a nice, and Alice in Wonderland is a really nice theme. No more commentary for now, though. Just a nice, simple song to enjoy.

Every now and then, I do a thing where community members can come by and play some music, and we all listen to some neat tunes together. If that sounds like your type of thing, then click the link above and come hang out with us! It’ll be a blast, I promise!
An old favorite, from well before I kept indexed playlists. One of the first non-Touhou things that I heard of Nhato’s, and to this day, something honestly still amazes me about this. I don’t speak a lick of japanese, and. I don’t have subs for this, but that doesn’t really matter to me.
This isn’t going to be a long post, just a sharing of something slightly nostalgic. If one is not familiar with the sound of Nhato, you can get a good feel of his style from this, with heavy syths and that low, running bass accentuating the higher-toned foreground in a way that, once you hear, you can pick out of most of his works.
Nhato does a lot of collabs, and sometimes remixes of certain Touhou arranges, and his style really, really shows through in those. In his collabs, you can definitely identify his influence, as said above. As for remixes, he makes things like Dancing Dollz, a Zytokine arrange that I have favorited that was since taken down, uniquely his. You can catch hints of what the original was, but his work is truly transformative.
Then you get into his original stuff, like this, or Amygdala, or Magic. All uniquely him. There’s just something about it that I don’t quite know how to describe. Go on, have a listen. I promise, it won’t bite. It is music, after all.
Oh. My. God. This is REALLY good.
- "Having a hard time trying to hear the lyrics of this song" A vocal version of “DesireDrive” by Spacelectro. One of my favorites theme of all times. Don’t ...
Today is not a happy day, friends. We have lost a valued member of the Youtube community, who was responsible for quite a few songs in various playlists that I keep. An uploader by the name of Ammy / エイミー has had their channel removed, and certain favorite uploads of mine have been lost to the void.
“But Nabi!”, you may ask “Aren’t there other uploads of things like Personalizer? The song isn’t gone, you can still listen to it!”A very large portion of my enjoyment of things on Youtube are the background images that some music uploaders put with the songs, and that very, very strong association between the image, the song, and the feeling that the two create together. It’s an art that not many people have bothered to master, and Ammy was one of the more skilled music uploaders at finding images that fit a song well, giving them a whole new context through artistic representation.
Sure, it’s not like they made the songs or images themselves, but finding such a way to present two things that one is incredibly passionate for is beautiful. That is why I would rather use monthly data on my phone rather than negligible space on an SD card to listen to certain songs.
Now, on to this song. I don’t think the image quite fits as well as some could, but the song itself is interesting. The vocals are a bit offbeat, and you can hear in the pacing that, even though the vocalist is fluent in English, the lyricist has likely yet to master it, themselves. The pronunciation is on point, but syllables are mashed together or drawn out in awkward bits, reminiscent more of Japanese vocal patterns than English ones.
This, however, doesn’t detract from the song at all. In the first half or so of it, I think it helps develop a feeling of chaos, coupled with some discordant instrumentals. And it’s not often that you get this kind of chaos from the well and firmly structured note progression of Desire Drive’s chorus. And as someone who really enjoys the theme, it’s a welcome change.
Overall, it’s a really solid arrange, giving just a hint of chaos overall to one of my favorite themes. And though the lyricist could definitely use some practice, I would definitely like to compliment both the arrangement of the piece, from the instrumentals to how the lyrics are made to fit, and the vocalist, as 薛南 honestly blows the track away, doing really well for the lines she has been given to sing.
I haven’t heard much of Spacelectro before, but I do look forward to hearing more of them in the future. Hopefully in the coming years, they are able to improve their use of lyrical pacing, and honestly, if they can manage that, we might have another circle the likes of Alstroemeria or Shibayan on our hands.
