While doing that, we refreshed everyone's looks and did a little roll call photo shoot. Despite my general absence from this fandom, I do still love these girls so much 😌😌

marisol will come with her complete meet outfit, her complete ballet outfit, and her complete dance accessories, as well as her cat, rascal, and the retired singing star outfit, because it basically could’ve been made for her its so perfect with her. as well, as a free bonus, you will get a collection of some purple items that i only would have used for marisol anyway.

everything here varies from near mind to used condition, marisol has a lot f scuffs on her face and her legs aren’t the tightest strung, but her hair is soft and shiny. her eyes like to stick when she sits up from lying down, but they just need to be pushed back open and they’re fine. for more pictures of marisol + her items, check out the marisol luna tag on my blog.

The results are in!

Back in October, we didn’t know anything about Kira Bailey other than that her name was probably going to be Kira Bailey, and she’d be this year’s Girl of the Year. So I put up a survey collecting this fandom’s thoughts about what she might be like. 

Now that we know the basic details about her, I’ll lay out all the responses and see what we were speculating and hoping for in this year’s GOTY. Some of you had some really creative answers! And I was pleasantly surprised with how optimistic many of us were that this year’s girl would be extra special and unique in some way.

Personally, I was hoping this would be the year we see the Jess face mold used for the first time in a decade, or with a dark skin tone for the first time ever. Or the Addy face mold used for the first time ever. I see that a lot of you had the same hopes. My GOTY of choice would be an Alaskan girl who competes in sled dog races; seriously, there are so many neat accessories that her collection could have! A little dogsled, dogs, showshoes, cross-country skis, lots of heavy coats and winter clothing…. so much potential! And the books still could have addressed similar topics that Kira’s books did. Maybe that will happen some day. 

The full analysis of the results will happen after the cut, but first I have to show you what was the most popular guess regarding what Kira would look like:

The Jess face mold was tied with the Addy face mold in popularity, but my own personal guess was that she’d have the Jess mold, and so with that as the tiebreaker…… look at this, folks…. 

We made Alexis!  

(minus the freckles but I didn’t include that as an option, and with dark brown eyes instead of light brown.)

I wish I could pass this info on to American Girl and tell them that I have scientific proof that they would have hit a home run with their teen and adult fans, and tons of young kids too, by making Alexis the Girl of the Year.

it is really telling that a lot of white collectors pivoted from insisting they wouldn’t support kira’s release or collection because of american girl’s failure to stick to any of their promises about racial/ethnic diversity to falling over themselves because kira has gay aunts. like one form of representation doesn’t instantly substitute the glaring lack of poc representation present here. featuring gay family members doesn’t make kira or her story an acceptable launch in a year where the company has shown a consistent failure to acknowledge its position to champion the stories and wants of poc and children of color. like i know white lgbt people hate to acknowledge it but they see themselves in so much more media and in much less demonizing ways than a lot of poc do, and again the gay aunts trope has become a “safe” way of slipping in some lgbt representation for woke points. this isn’t to castigate every person involved with kira’s development or the gay people happy to finally see themselves represented in some way in the ag universe (although i will say this is too little too late given how long ag has been around and how many opportunities they’ve had to have a single lgbt person in their stories), but it is to say that we should really be examining our commitment to wanting Better from ag as a company and not dropping our facade of caring about real change just when our specific demographics are catered to and people of color are still left out in the cold
