5 Post-Finale BBC Merlin Fix-It Fics
It’s this time of the year again. and again. and until 1: we collectively heal from the trauma that is diamond of the day or 2: he rises (more likely atp)
So here are 5 fics to read this year and celebrate the magic that is our fandom and the undying love and creativity that we carry for this show 🤍
1. The Last Letter of Arthur Pendragon by regulusrules. >1K, G.
Who ever said a fic needs to be long to ruin us? 200 words were enough for me to sob my heart to sleep when I wrote it (and sob again when I woke up next day and read it). No title needed. Just vibes. Just pain. But also just love and support that Merlin truly deserved to hear.
2. The Past and Future King by SigniorBenedickofPadua. 64K, E.
There are fics that simply hook you with just a few words in.. a few tropes. This was definitely one of them. You can see the devotion pouring out of the two in this fic. How now they get to rewrite their story but with their own penmanship. How they would defy all the odds to make their world a kinder one. It really is so very well-written, and you will love the most how @signiorbenedickofpadua made Arthur approach Morgana this time around.
3. Grand Game by begaydocrimes10001. 7K, M.
Even if it isn’t exactly post-dotd, but one of the most unique time-travel fics you will read. Usually those are written with the intent to fix stuff, but in this one I love how @canyounotexistelias wrote it as a problem they face. As a confrontation with your older self who becomes the very thing you fear. The manifestation of you either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain. I absolutely loved it.
4. Man of the Year by kiera_wesley. 2K, T.
I love this fic’s idea more than I can possibly explain. Even if it didn’t completely hit all my emotional nerve endings, I still love the concept and its execution. It reminds me of @twistedapple624’s fic idea that still lingers in the back of my mind. I want to believe both to be canon. I want sequels of their flourishing. I want a lifetime of happiness well-deserved by all.
5. My breaths are run by your compass by regulusrules. 75K, M.
Last but never the least; my heart and soul. The fic that broke generations. The plot twist that kept us gaping for days. I will never be able to get over Merlin’s betrayed eyes as Arthur flinches away from his magic. Nor will I ever get over Arthur’s reason for doing so. I will simply never tire of reccing this fic when every other day someone reminds me in the comments of just how much it resonated with them, also heart and soul.
