I miss all of you and playing Naomi so much. It sucks none of this really worked out. :(Â
âYou really want me to try and fix this?â
Brandon nodded a little bit at her words, not surprised by them. âIâm not just saying this to be a dick, I swear, I just donât think itâs a very good idea. Something like that will stay with you forever if people find out, itâd go on your transcript. And as much as Iâm sure the money is great, tutoring or a part time job is so much easier and probably less stressful than this.â He tried to explain to her. âAnd donât think I donât think youâve considered all this already, because Iâm sure you have.â He quickly added onto the end. He didnât want her thinking that he thought she was some stupid girl whoâd do anything for money. âMaia does that for a few extra bucks. Iâm sure there are electronics stores that need people who actually know what theyâre doingâŚâ
After taking the USB out and twirling the little device around her index finger, Naomi had Brandonâs words replay in her head. It was true, things were getting much harder now, and she was going through extreme lengths to do what she did. Yet, the only reason she continued was because she found joy in the entire thing. It wasnât breaking into the office and being able to change other studentâs grades that made her happy, but more so the work that went into the whole thing computer wise. âAlright, fine, I wonât do it anymore,â she rolled her eyes before handing him her USB. âIâm even giving you this, so you know Iâm being serious. Iâll stick to fixing laptops and phones.â
Naomi began replaying his words in her head. She wasn't even a suspect because nobody was suspicious about the introverted girl who stuck to herself. It was the main reason she didn't stop, simply because she was able to get away with her illegal act for the last few years. "No, uh, I'd be pretty upset," she answered truthfully. "I haven't changed grades in a while tho. I've been busy, so you should be glad I stopped âuntil now, of course," shrugging her shoulders, she began fiddling around with the USB in her pockets. "I major in Informational Technology and Computer Science. I mean what else did you think I'd do? Fix phones and laptops?"
"I change grades," Naomi said softly, her eyes wandering around the hallway in case anyone would happen to walk by and hear. "I mean, by this point, mostly everyone knows, but I still have to be careful," by the few minutes she had already spent with the other, she could tell he highly disapproved. "You give me cash and I'll change your grade from a C to a B or something," shrugging her shoulders, she stuffed her hands inside the pockets of her sweater. "It's a long process, but yeah, gotta make my money somehow and I have no people skills whatsoever."
âIf I tell you then you have to swear you wonât say anything,â her tone was serious for a moment, by this point almost everyone knew what she did and they were smart enough to keep their mouths shut too. âI will, we werenât going to get caught anyway. Iâm not stupid enough to let that happen, but just in case, you like orange, right?â
âSee, Iâd tell you, but I feel like youâll be the one to put me in jail,â Naomi bit down on her lower lip, shaking her head, before unplugging her USB from the computer and placing everything back how they were before. âI could just hack into the system and erase the footage of me walking in here,â she stood by the doorway before looking back over at the other, her hair still tucked behind the black hoodie she had on. âSee? I was fast and youâre not behind bars.â
Brandon pursed his lips and let a breath out through his nose, looking up and down the halls again before glancing back at her. âYou have two minutes, then Iâm turning and leaving⌠this hall gets busy between popular class times.â He explained. âAnd if we get caught, Iâm saying you blackmailed me.â That was more a joke, but still⌠this kind of thing stressed him out more than it should.
âIf I never got in trouble for this, then you wouldnât either,â Naomi reassured as her fingers began typing away on the computer. âItâs their fault more than anything, really, theyâre the ones teaching me this sort of stuff,â shrugging her shoulders, she glanced over at Brandon, laughing softly at the obvious look of worry in his face. âYou need to relax. Itâs after hours, so nobodyâs even awake right now.â
âI have two projects left to complete, three textbooks to read over twice,  I have a meeting with several investors and a student broke his laptop which I need to fix,â she ran her hand through her hair. âSo much to do and thereâs not enough time.â
"I can fix the laptop," Naomi offered. "It'll at least take some of the stress off, which you already seem to have plenty of, plus I haven't fixed anything in a while."
â ⢠* (1) CALL â MAX
Naomi: No, uh, I didn't go to that dance at all. You know those sort of social events aren't my thing.
Naomi: How are things over there though? Is everything okay?
Brandon frowned at the girlâs words and hesitated, looking around. âWhat are you looking for, exactly?â The british boy asked cautiously, crossing his arms. As much as he was up for helping people out most of the time, breaking a serious school rule wasnât exactly what he had in mind. âIâm pretty sure this is illegal.â
âI just need to check for what security system their using on their computer since I canât break through myself,â Naomi sighed, running her hands across her face before looking over at Brandon. âPlease? Itâs just this once. If they really had some kind of problem with me doing this then they shouldnât teach me this, you know? Please? Five minutes.â
âYouâd probably be ready to leave your first night.. but then again, who wouldnât?â Margo laughed nevertheless, and let her gaze wander as the girl spoke to her. âAlright, Iâll trust you on that then.â She then raised her brows at the othersâ words, âThatâs interesting. But why do you want in the system anyways?â
âIf you need your grade changed, then Iâm your girl,â Naomi answered. âItâs how I make money considering I have zero people skills at all, clearly,â she laughed once more as her eyes never left the computer screen. âI mean, thankfully, nobody here snitched me out yet, so keeping that little info between you and I would be great.â
âHa, so this is what you needed a friend for? Breaking rules, Talbot. Iâll call you that from now on.â
âOh, come on, I fixed your phone one time didnât I? You could pay me back for that by keeping look out,â her eyes stayed glued to the computer, typing as fast as she could to get done with what she needed to do. âYouâre not scared are you?â
Cris hesitated at the girlâs words, not really keen on the idea of getting mixed into someone elseâs trouble. âEhh..â the boy trailed off, shifting his weight from foot to foot, eventually giving in. âHow long will you be?â
âI wonât be more than five minutes, I swear,â Naomi replied as her focus was mostly on the computer in front of her. âYou wonât get in trouble. I do this sort of thing a lot and they never find out nor care half the time.â
âAlways, baby.â Hunter leaned against the wall, trying to look as casual as possible. He didnât see or hear anyone coming, but it was better to be safe than sorry. âNah, if they really knew what was up, we wouldnât even have gotten in here. As long as thereâs no security youâre good.â
A few minutes later, Naomi took out her USB from the computer and made sure nothing was out of place and was left exactly as how she found it when she got in. She leaned against the doorway, looking out into the empty hallway, nobody in sight. âYeah, thatâs true, the fact that I can just get in here and completely trash their security system really shows how bad ass they are,â she fiddled around with the USB in her hand before looking back over at Hunter. âThanks, by the way, everyone else was too scared.â
Margo laughed as well as she looked back at the girl and shook her head. âI didnât say Iâm worried about going to jail. I just said are you prepared to go to jail if we do get caught?â To be honest, Margo wasnât even a tad bit worried. She was used to doing these things solo at her high school. âYou sure you donât need help? Iâve had my share time with school systems, you know..â Despite saying this, her eyes had lifted from the girl and moved to the hall outside the office, and she leaned back nonchalantly on the office door threshold.
âAm I prepared to go to jail? Heck no. Iâm not even meant for jail,â she said with laughter. âI know what Iâm doing though and Iâm not stupid enough to leave anything that might give me away,â she shook her head at her offer. âIâm good. Iâve done this before. Itâs their first time actually trying to put up something stronger though. I guess Charltonâs finally not being stupid.â
âNot gonna lie, out of all the things that could go to jail for,  I never expected it to be just for being an accomplice. â Hunter laughed. âBut Iâm your man. And if someone is coming, Iâm good at distracting them so you can slip away.â
âI knew I could count on you,â she said as her eyes remained focused on the computer in front of her. âI didnât think Iâd have to actually sneak in here this late to still be able to change grades though. I think theyâre finally starting to take notice somethingâs going on.â
