Janelle Monáe: there’s just sumthing about Janelle Monáe. How can I put it?? She’s a lil crazy, lil sexy, lil cool, lil rough around the edges buh she keeps it smooth. Idk how she does it. A mystery truly. Almost factual n fiction.
I knew of Ms. Monáe 4 a very long x, I thinkkkk likeee 11yrs?? U know, her tightrope days (when she started blowing up I believe)
I knew of her thru hits, like in the mid 2000s We Are Young mv, n then ofc TightRope. Then a few yrs l8r, I got into her “again” thru Yoga. I was not up-2-date wit her @ all. Didn’t know shi about her except that her voice is like honey, her skin is phenomenal, body is a banger, n that she’s gay af (pansexual) like me.
Then in 2019?? (after her revolutionary album Dirty Computer; knew of it buh didn’t make the x 2 listen 2 it until l8 December) 4 sum reason, I felt the need 2 keep her in my radar.
Then 2yrs n sum change, she is a way of being. Whenever I think of Janelle Monáe, i think bk 2 a quote that said “In another universe, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love.” Whenever I feel uncertain or just having another identity crisis, I go bk 2 my roots. I go 2 my center (bish, she might just b my religion).

Janelle represents the rainbow. The color wheel. B4, I said rainbow was the default bcuz I am always changing n evolving buh there r x’s where being rainbow feels as if I’m going 2 explode with colors. I feel that I’m supposed 2 b somewhere, b sum1 n sumthing. The ultimate belongingness.
