I think one of my favorite little details about Reigen is that unlike Mob he forgets that other people can’t see Dimple so when they are talking Reigen is shouting and and arguing to the air and doing his weird hand motions while everyone else around him is just looking at him like

to be quite frank, keeping the art style simple in mob psycho 100 was bloody genius because thats kinda the point of the whole show. it runs off the fact that mob is an average everyday kid and that despite having psychic power his life doesn’t change drastically, he’s not popular for having them, he still struggles with expressing himself and he doesn’t win the girl he likes over because he has powers. and that reflects itself in the art style of how he is every normal day.

and then theres the switch where all his emotions come rushing out and he explodes when he hits that 100% and all of a sudden he looks really damn intense and cool and the juxtaposition of him changing from an average kid to this makes for some really awesome visual contrast.

Mp100 is easily one of the best examples I’ve seen in recent years that really makes use of animation as a medium to frame its story. The combination of different styles to evoke certain effects, like Op said, is one of things it does right. My favourite thing though, still, has to be the way it uses the frame-by-frame aspect to illustrate nitty gritty details so that the transition shots in fight (explosion) scenes are always fluid and visually dynamic. And speaking of cuts, pay attention to the use of “camera” angles the next time you rewatch this anime. They contribute so much to mood and characterisation.
