“It’s certainly exciting,” Natalie said, nodding her head as she just bouncing her daughter on her hip slightly. “Everything is new for her. It’s like... experiencing everything all over again, but through her.”

“Hey,” Natalie said, leaning into her daughter’s ear, looking over at the person walking toward them. “Wave hi. Tell them hi.” Apolline laughed and picked up her hand, waving her tiny fingers in the other’s direction, telling them hello in her own way. “She’s learning,” she told the other, smiling at her daughter. “She called me “Mama” the other day. I cried.”

“I’m sure your friends have planned something though. I doubt they forgot your birthday like,” Theo pointed out as he stole a bite of one of her waffles. What? He was hungry too. He raised a brow at her suggestion, “Are you sure? Like absolutely sure? I wouldn’t want to intrude on your and your friends,” He said and smiled, “You know I’m more than happy to be on babysitting duties if you wanna go out and have fun.”

“I mean, I could maybe pull something together with them, but,” she trailed off, shrugging her shoulders. “Is it bad to say that I’d rather spend my time with the two of you?” She looked between him and their daughter. “You’re my best friends. There’s no one I’d rather spend my birthday with.”

Theo chuckled at her reaction, “I love you too,” He said in response as he moved to the other side of the bed to lay on his side with Apolline still in his lap, “Anything for my girlfriend on her birthday,” He continued with a smile, “So I’ve booked work off today so we can all spend some time together and also later on, I can look after Apolline while you spend time with your friends. I know we’re publicly and openly a couple now but I thought you might want some time with just your friends,” Of course, Theo would have loved to hang out with her and her friends altogether but there was the “newness”, albeit pretend, of their relationship, formerly student and teacher, that he worried would ruin her night. He couldn’t know for sure but it was up to her anyway.

Natalie continued to eat as he spoke, wondering what else he had planned today. It was odd, of course, to have the day off from watching her daughter. It also meant that she hadn’t exactly made plans with anyone, considering she hadn’t known what they were doing. Natalie blushed slightly, biting her lip. “I didn’t exactly make plans with anyone,” she told him, and moved the tray over slightly so she could take her daughter into her lap. “Maybe all of us can go and do something. It’d be nice to be out and together.” When she was in school, she liked the secrecy of her and Theo’s relationship. Now she loved that they could show it off to the world.

“Waffles!” Theo exclaimed as he showed her the tray, “And there’s fruit and syrup and icing sugar so you can put whatever you like on it. They’re made from scratch and it’s my mother’s recipe so I can assure you that they’re really good,” He grinned and sat down at the edge of the bed with their daughter in his lap, “There’s also a card. The artwork on it is all Apolline though I signed it for the both of us. She’s a bit insecure about her handwriting,” He joked, patting the baby’s head as she continued to squeal and tried to grab what was on the tray.

Natalie groaned in anticipation, closing her eyes as she smiled a moment before finding her gaze falling back on her boyfriend. “Merlin, I love you,” she laughed, moving the tray closer and reaching out to look at the card. She smiled gently, nodding at the artwork, and put it down to pick up her fork. “Thank you,” she said, moving to pour some syrup on top, just how she liked them. She took a giant bite of her breakfast and moaned softly. “So good,” she murmured, with a mouth full of food.

Theo held his daughter on his hip and balanced a tray of food on his other hand as he pushed the bedroom door open, “Nat,” He said in a hushed voice, wanting to wake her up gently as he placed the tray on the side table and brushed a strand of her hair from her sleepy face, “Happy birthday,” He said with a smile when she started waking up. Apolline babbled something with the same intonations he had used, clearly trying to mimic him. He laughed, “We made you breakfast. Well I made breakfast but I got Apolline a chef’s hat,” He said pointing at it with a grin.

Natalie was definitely having a good dream. She couldn’t remember what it was about, but as she woke up slowly to the sound of Theo calling her name, she didn’t really care. She smiled lazily as she opened her eyes, finding both Theo and their daughter in front of her. “Good morning,” she said, sitting up slowly and glancing at the tray and back to her boyfriend. “Thank you,” she laughed. Leaning in, she cupped her daughter’s face. “And thank you, my love,” she sighed, pressing a kiss to her daughter’s nose, which caused the baby to squeal happily. Leaning back, she looked over at Theo. “What’d you make me?” she asked, making grabby hands teasingly.

“I love you too,” Theo said, kissing her back and then grinning, “Alright. If we’re going to go public, how about dinner? We can do it tonight. I can see if Mackenzie can babysit?”

Natalie perked up, smiling as she nodded her head. “I think that could work,” she said, a little amusement in her voice. “If not Mackenzie, I’m sure Ben could take her.”

“I suppose we both have fair features so she’s a bit of both of us,” Theo said with a smile as she looked down at their daughter, “Of course she will. And because of the way things turned out, she’s got more people to love her like Ben and his family. She’s got us, she’s got Mackenzie, she’d got everyone who’ll ever meet her I’d say. She’ll be the most loved child in the world. How could anybody not love her?” He said with a slight joking smile though he did mean it.

Natalie knew he was right. But there was a part of her that still worried. She had been raised by nannies, and while her father told her all the time he loved her, she was still left with questions. Smiling gently at her daughter before looking up at Theo, she sighed, leaning in to press a light kiss to his lips. “I love you,” she told him with a soft smile.

“Just know, she’ll be cursing him out too them,” Mackenzie replied. “Though he is kind of a pushover. Good luck trying to ever discipline this little one.”

“Oh, I already know I’m going to have to play bad cop all the time,” she laughed, shaking her head. “Her father would never say no to either of us. I’m sure Apolline will tell him to jump and his immediate response will be ‘How high?’“

“Let people think what they want then. I think she looks more like you anyway,” Theo frowned as she talked about it, “I don’t want that for her and I know that eventually people will find out the truth. Hopefully by then, it won’t get us into any kind of trouble especially since I have no plans to go into teaching again. I’m not ashamed of her, we only want her to have her best life. We’ll make sure she knows that if anything.”

“Obviously you don’t stare at her as much as I thought you did. She’s all Daddy,” she teased, looking between her daughter and the baby’s father. She licked her lips, reaching up and running her hand over her head. “I just want to make sure she knows that she is and will always be loved.”

“He really would,” Kenzie replied. “My brother really loves you. And this little one deserves to be able to be out in the public with both her mommy and daddy, yes.” Kenzie poked at the baby’s stomach gently. “Soon he’ll be teaching her like 17 languages and we’ll be very confused.”

Natalie smiled, happy with the reminder that Theo loved her, especially from someone that wasn’t him. It made it feel so much more real. Laughing softly, she looked down at her daughter, licking her lips. “She’s going to be able to curse me out in all those languages and it’s going to be all his fault.”

“Well if I wasn’t around, I know I could definitely count on you to take care of my brother. Have you two spoke about going public at all?” she questioned. “I mean no pressure obviously, I know how important this secret is, and I respect that. I will keep it for however long you need me to. Though, I just kind of have this thing about lying with James, and I just want to make sure I’m the one who tells him that Apolline is actually my niece instead of him hearing it from anywhere else. So I just want you or Theo to kind of maybe warn me?”

“We’re going to try,” she said, nodding her head in answer. “I want everyone to know that he is mine, and I’m his. It’s not fair to keep him hidden. Though, I’m sure that he would keep it secret as long as I felt I needed.”

Theo took his daughter and grinned, suddenly feeling so much happier as she looked up at him. All he wanted was for her to be happy and know that her father loved her, “You could still try and convince people that she just inherited all of your features,” He said with a soft chuckle, “All the people I want to know now know so I’m okay with that for now.”

“That’s now how genetics work, baby,” she teased, laughing softly with him. “I just don’t want her to feel ashamed because of how she was conceived. If she has to grow up pretending that Ben is her father and you’re her dad in private, it’s going to hurt her in the long run.”

“Bo-ring!” she pouted, especially at the mention of the shop. “Let me know if she ever wants a Quidditch lesson with her cool aunt. I’m sure that’d be more fun for her.”

“Oh, we’ll have to see,” Natalie laughed, shaking her head. “I’m sure Ben would really enjoy seeing her on a broom.”

Evan looked from Natalie to the baby as if he had been asked a question that was a matter of life or death. “Are you sure?” he asked in disbelief, looking to the blonde once more.

“Of course,” she said, laughing to herself. “Just hold her like I am and it’ll be okay.”

Kenzie let Apolline grab onto her finger. “I’m glad,” she replied. “You seem really happy, despite how messy it is. I’m really glad you decided to keep her.” She looked from Natalie to Apolline. “You know, this summer, when Lucy and I, when we…” she paused. “I just, she was one of the reasons I wanted to get back. I missed a lot in my brother’s life, and I didn’t want to miss anymore, nor did I want to miss your daughter’s life.” She looked back to Natalie with a smile. “I’m really happy that I get to experience that.”

Natalie looked over her, letting her words settle in, and she smiled at her gently. She leaned in, pressing a kiss to Mackenzie’s head. “She’s lucky to have an aunt as amazing as you are. I don’t know what I would have done if you weren’t around to help me with her.”
