“Does anyone around here know how to knock? I’d like some privacy.”
“I’m so sorry, I had no idea any one was in this bathroom.” He spoke, ashamed, immediately closing the door in front of him.
jackson-ahern:
Jackson’s eyes widened with panic. The last time he had gotten into an altercation with a patient he had ended up in the infirmary, unable to move from pain with more broken bones than he cared to count. “I’m not trying to make you do anything or demanding things, I was just asking in the hope that you wouldn’t speak to anyone about it,” he replied hastily, his words coming out weak and laced with fear that he never intended to be there. As the other patient’s fist connected with the wall Jackson’s entire body froze as if an ice cold substance has replaced all of the blood in his veins. “If you tell someone I’m not going to do anything I just don’t want to get in trouble, that’s all.”
This behaviour was totally out of character for Nathan, but...he had been played, used. And this guy in front of him was the main reason, possibly. He was the one that had brought drugs to Bryson, leading him to act that way towards him, and this was his way of dealing with his sadness anger. Being the person he was, there was no way in Hell Nathan would ever talk to anyone about what had happened, even if the negativity ate him alive. It only took a few seconds for his mood to change back into his usual gloominess, as he realised that there was nothing he could do now. “It’s pointless, just go...” The younger boy spoke in a defeated tone, his words coming out as a plea.
kenzie-webster-serenity:
Mackenzie most definitely wasn’t in Serenity willingly, she would have rathered be anywhere but this place. She didn’t want to die, at least she didn’t think she did, but she didn’t really have any hope for living after what happened to her sister. Part of her didn’t see any point to life, but she didn’t want her family to have to go through another death in the family. She needed to escape sometimes, that’s why she used to drink so much, and why she started cutting. Maybe she could find other things too. She smiled, following the boy. “I didn’t get your name before. Mine’s Mackenzie, or Kenzie for short.” She added as the two walked down the hall.
Maybe these two were totally different people, but there was something strong they had in common; they were both messed up and needed to escape their routine somehow. Even though Nathan wasn’t the adventurous and risky type, there was something about this situation that had intrigued him. Maybe Serenity really was starting changing him after all; “And I’m Nathan.” He responded with a smirk as he reached the staircase that led to the basement, which most knew was were the gym was located. But not only. Pacing down the stairs, the brunette checked his surroundings carefully before reaching a big door that most did not know where it led to, but he had managed to sneak in before. Pushing it with hope in his heart, Nathan felt delighted to hear it creak open, as the pool that was in there was slowly revealed.
Full of Almosts || Nathan & Bryson
brysondunse:
“No.” He mumbled quickly, shaking his head and taking another step forward. “I need to know why you were laughing at me! That’s not it! Don’t lie to me!” Bryson demanded, glaring at Nathan as he moved closer to the other. He felt as if there was some sort of power leading his actions, as if the urge to know why he was being mocked would make him do anything. Bryson felt like he was burning up, like his whole skin was too hot, and he needed to cool it down. He felt trapped and angry, the relief and happiness of the drug shyly hiding behind those strong emotions. Before he knew it, he had backed the other up against the wall again, and their faces were inches away. Without thinking, without even measuring his actions, Bryson just did the first thing that popped up in his mind; he crashed his lips against Nathan’s, mercilessly kissing him as his body pinned the other’s.
It all happened too fast. Before Nathan even had time to realise what was about to come, his body had become one with the wooden door, and his lips were viciously and suddenly attacked. Why? There was no way Bryson was interested in that way, or...was he? Regardless, the younger boy only slightly tried to push the other away, but before realising it himself he got lost in the kiss, finding himself, surprisingly, attracted to this “hateful-but-wanna-makeout-with-you” situation. There was no better way to describe these two, and at that point he was too weak to protest. Kissing the other back, the brunette felt his heart beating insanely fast as adrenaline rushed through his body, blurring his mind and logic.
jackson-ahern:
Jackson was completely taken aback when the other patient finally spoke, seemingly demanding an instant answer. He was so surprised by the question that he barely even noticed he had answered it. “Drugs.” The word had slipped out so quickly in response that he had no time to stop himself. “I mean…” he started, the sentence he wanted to say to backpedal out of the situation falling short before he could even start it. “Look, don’t tell anyone,” Jackson pleaded, his eyes falling to the floor to break the hold Nathan’s stare had on him.
He fucking knew it. Bryson’s condition was too much to be justified by anything other than drugs and Nathan was right to suspect him all along. But how? This place was supposed to be extremely safe, so how had they failed that badly that two patients had done drugs in here? Only then did it hit me; Nathan had been used once again. Used to satisfy some one else’s needs, toyed around with and fooled. How much stupider could he be to believe that Bryson maybe, perhaps had the tiniest interest in him? A storm of emotions over took him as the punched the wall behind him, a gesture that wasn’t like him; “Or else what?” He spoke rebelliously, unaware that he had no personal reason to be mad at Jackson.
A Dance to Remember [Dante x Nathan]
dantespersonalhell:
Dante was glad when the other didn’t pull away from the kiss. He was fairly good at reading people, but he still hadn’t been sure how Nathan would react to being kissed again. He smiled into the kiss as he allowed his hands to travel up to the sides of his neck, gently continuing to kiss the other. At the other’s comment, he wasn’t sure if it was a game anymore. It had started as a game, but now things were confusing. Maybe it was still a game, or maybe it was out of lust, he wasn’t really sure. “You know I’m always full of fun and games. But you, you’re full of surprises.” he laughed and broke the kiss once more looking back at the other, his fingers weaving through the other male’s hair. Dante wanted to keep kissing the other and his hands itched to keep touching him, but he had to remind himself that this was supposed to be fairly innocent date and that they were in public, surrounded by other patients and staff members. Besides when it boiled down to it, Dante didn’t know much about the other. All he knew was that Nathan was a good kisser. “Luckily no one has come to steal you away from me yet. What about back home though? Anyone special I should know about?”
Momentarily lost into the moment, Nathan pulled away to simply chuckle at Dante’s words. Was he making himself sound too insecure...? Surely, that teenager wasn’t one to often full around with other boys, and would never invest his time in some one that wasn’t worthy of his attention. What was about Dante that had attracted him, Nathan did neither know nor care about at the moment as it was already too late to ignore his feelings; “Definitely not.” He responded to the question without hesitation, though his face dropped without him realising it. How could he even have a normal relationship, how would he be able to trust some one again after what had happened? It only took the boy a few seconds to feel anxiety taking up his every inch, as the room suddenly got devoid of all oxygen. Both ashamed and slightly panicked, all Nathan had time to do was utter a breathless “Sorry” before suddenly turning around and bursting out of the room.

Already dressed to go, the brunette quickly placed her makeup carefully into the smaller bag, zipping it up and placing it in the position it always rested on her desk. “Well, what are you waiting for Mr. Eager? Let’s go.” Since growing closer to Nathan and detecting his more feminine characteristics, Demetria completely let loose in front of him. She was not afraid to act herself around the boy, even showing her worse and more judgmental traits at times; yet this never seemed to change his opinion of her. “Okay, so question of the day. What is going on with you and Dante, exactly? Do tell.” It seemed as though she had already beat him to even bringing it up and Demi had no time to waste when it came to gossip. Within seconds, the female had seemed to ease up, highlighting that her bad mood was nothing more than something silly and dramatic.
What was this girl, a mind reader? Before Nathan even had the chance to mention the situation with Dante, his brunette friend had already raised the question; apparently she was too busy with her own boyfriend to notice the kiss that took place in front of everyone at the Snowball. There were no words to describe the relief he felt, for not needing to come out to the girl. Honestly, what was the point? He never once hid his true, unless he felt unsafe, and Nathan had always been proud. Though he was not very good with words, the younger boy felt comfortable enough around Demi to talk about his personal issues; “Not quite sure either, but I think we’re onto something. He’s cute aand...a good kisser.” The brunette replied with a chuckle, playfully brushing his arm against her own.
demixrivers:
It wasn’t often that Nathan let his care-free side come out and honestly, this was the version of him that she preferred. Demi could remember their first meeting like it was yesterday; she was so upset about everything that happened with Aiden and Nathan wasn’t feeling up to conversation either, but here he was, encouraging her to go out and actually enjoy her day. With a light-hearted sigh and a smile sprinkling on her lips, she shot him one last look before retreating to her mirror to finish off her makeup. “How about we walk around and totally judge other people’s outfits to make ourselves feel better? You know that is my favourite pastime.”
Success! There was nothing that made Nathan more happy than cheering others up, bringing them joy even in the silliest ways. That boy was truly kind, it just took some time for people to break down his walls, and even more time for him to consider them friends. But Demi, with her carefree and delightful personality had managed to win him over soon enough, even though the way they had met had not made things seem bright for them. “Aww yes!” He exclaimed at her suggestion, enjoying nothing more than getting to spend some time with his new close friend. Who knows, maybe they’d get the chance to discuss the spicey events of the Snowball too...
A Dance to Remember [Dante x Nathan]
dantespersonalhell:
Dante smirked as the other flirted and teased back. The two of them had already kissed, but the circumstances had been a bit off. Not to mention Demi had been staring at them the whole time and it wasn’t exactly high on his list to just have someone staring at him while he kissed another person. Maybe she was fine with being so open about her and Aiden, but Dante liked to think he had a bit more class. “I have a few things in mind,” he finally replied in a coy voice. He leaned forward and let their lips meet once more, this time it was slower and with more passion. Now that he didn’t feel pressure of having to run back to Demi he took his time, letting his arms wrap around the other. When their lips finally broke apart for air, he could feel the other’s hot breath on his face. “What now? I am your date, and I promised to make this a special night. Your wish is my command.”
Nathan’s heart barely had any time to pick up its pace with anticipation as he saw the other leaning in closer; now this was different. A kiss full of feelings that made him melt instead of causing him awkwardness, because this time it was real. Dante could say that it was all fun and games as much as he wanted, but this interaction did not seem as a mere game no more, and the other boy’s attitude towards him had definitely improved. At this moment time had frozen, there was no wrong or right, neither of them cared about whoever was watching; it was just them and the music. Feeling his cheeks turn pink as their eyes met again, Nathan couldn’t help but let his own teasing comment leave his mouth as he now started feeling more comfortable around the other; “What, is this part of your game too?” He asked with a chuckle, indirectly trying to understand what Dante’s intentions were towards him.
kenzie-webster-serenity:
Not noticing the boy seeing Kenzie kept her hand on her wrist, trying to distract herself from the conversation. She needed the pain right now, needed to distract herself from the fact that she would be stuck in here until she died, and no one could convince her otherwise. The boy seemed friendly enough, and kind of cute, but he seemed really optimistic, which was something Kenzie got sick of quickly. “That’s true, I guess” She mumbled a bit, then speaking clearly said “Show me something special about this place, something that you think would change my opinion on it.” She was taking a risk, knowing she probably wouldn’t like whatever he showed her, but she had to do something, she was bored out of her mind.
Little did this girl know of the tragedy that had taken place in Nathan’s life, of the true reason he was here, of the horrors he had been through. But still, throughout all that, Nathan was more than happy to be safe in here from all harm, and most importantly safe. He was perhaps one, if not the only, patient who was in Serenity willingly, because he acknowledged that he needed help and was planning to do his best to recover, so he could move on with his life. For now, he was doing his best to make good use of his time here. Though he had never been a very adventurous person, the quiet life in Serenity had made him often go around, searching the facility for anything interesting. And very recently he had made a specific discovery that not many knew of, neither did he know if patients were able to use freely, but definitely was worth seeing. “Follow me.” He said after a moment of silence, suggestively turning his head down the stairs as he started pacing in the front.
demixrivers:
Noticing the concern that concealed Nathan’s usual easy-going personality, Demi couldn’t help but feel bubbles of pride within her stomach growing. Taking a deep breath and shooting him a serious look, scrambling for any possible reason for why she was feeling ‘shitty’, she froze. Realistically, all she wanted was attention. Aiden was still asleep and Jackson was nowhere to be found, so instead she took about Nathan to cure her needs. “Just feeling kinda… Low, you know?” Pressing her lips together to form a saddened expression, the brunette let her head hang, her facial features morphing back into normality so that she wouldn’t have to keep her act up whilst he couldn’t see her. Demetria couldn’t just openly flirt was Nathan, like she would anyone else. He was too… Feminine to accept that.
“Aw come on now, let’s go do something. You’re the most exciting person I know, don’t disappoint me!” Nathan replied with a grin as he brushed his shoulder against the girl, trying his hardest to cheer up his closest friend in here. After all, Demi really was the only one who brought out his real personality, the one he had before he came to Serenity, before that tragic event took place in his life. Even though he knew Demi could be very flirty, Nathan was relieved that he had never acted that way towards him. A hunch, perhaps? It wasn’t like he was trying to hide his true self around her anyway. “What do you feel like doing? Let’s cause some trouble!” He urged her once more.
Aspen noticed his look at the other girls and wondered if maybe that was a common thing, or if even he had had a similar interaction with them. “Their loss, right?” she said, trying her absolute hardest to be optimistic and not think lowly of herself for their rejection. Besides, he seemed rather nice and Aspen wasn’t one to bring other people down with her even if she was sad or upset. Aspen picked up a grape from her plate, popping it in her mouth, nodding as he spoke, “Thanks, I’m not entirely sure why they picked it, I think it’s a type of tree or leaf honestly…” she said lightly. “Nice to meet you, Nathan. How long have you been here for?” it was nice to be having a simple conversation, she knew she needed to make friends in here.
“Exactly.” He responded with a prideful smirk, before turning his full attention to the girl in front of him. Even though Nathan had been here for a few months, he hadn’t made many friends since he always introverted, but this girl looked kind enough, which encouraged him to be more friendly with her. “Must be three or four months. I’ve decided it’s better to stop counting.” The boy responded with a chuckle, as humor always helped him deal with difficult situations more easily. “And you? You have to be new, haven’t seen you around before.” He added, taking a bite from his food.
A Dance to Remember [Dante x Nathan]
dantespersonalhell:
Dante looked over a little bit surprised by the other male’s answer but still smiled. “So that means I’m your first date to a dance then?” he mused and put his arm around the other as the two of them started to dance. So much of this did remind Dante of those high school dances, but there was also something different here. Maybe it’s because he was surrounded by a bunch of sick kids, but Dante knew in a sense all of them were in the same boat. “You’re better at dancing than you think Nathan. You don’t need to be so shy and modest.” he laughed as the two of them continued to sway to the slow music.
“You know, I’m glad I kissed you that day in the library. Even if it was for a dare, at least it won me a date to the dance.” Dante laughed and rested his head on the other’s shoulder breathing in slowly. “I guess since this is your first dance though, I should make it memorable somehow.”
“Well, that’s true.” Nathan replied at the other’s statement, feeling extremely glad that his first dance was with a person like him, regardless of the circumstances that had brought them close in the first place. Chuckling at his comment, it was enough for the boy to break free a little, as he started swaying around to the music with more energy than before, deciding that he wanted to make the best out of this experience.
Staring at him with glimmering eyes as he spoke, Nathan still couldn’t help but wonder about the other’s true intentions; Did Dante actually like him after all, or was this just a game to him? It wasn’t like the boy had thought much of the other from the first day they met, but after that kiss took place, he couldn’t deny that he was starting to develop a different kind of interest for the other male, one that he had never planned in the first place. “And how exactly are you gonna do that, mister Dante?” Nathan responded teasingly, staring in his eyes with a playful, suggestive smirk.
demixrivers:
Sass. A trait that Demetria had never seen in Nathan before this morning. But how? He had always come across as so quiet… so sweet. Perhaps now that the pair were growing closer and beginning to learn other things about one another, Nathan was truly showing his true side. Maybe he was a little camp but that didn’t change the fact that he complimented her and showed her a different type of attention that she had never received. Rolling her eyes as a response, Demi let out an almost theatrical sigh to accompany to look of drama she wore. “If you feel like shit, you look like shit. Fact.”
Beneath all his shyness and introverted tendencies, Nathan was undoubtadly one of the nicest and well mannered boys in his town. He was never involved drugs or even smoking, never joined in harmless shoplifting or even spoke up, which had led him to have major insecurity issues. But he had always been friendly and humorous nonetheless, as long as he’d start feeling comfortable towards another person. And with Demi, he was as real as he could be. “Whoa whoa whoa, what happened?” He spoke in a worried manner and took a step closer to the brunette, not having quite expected this response.
kenzie-webster-serenity:
Seeing the boy stare at the floor Mackenzie rolled her eyes. He seemed to have wanted to cheer her up, which never really did anything for the girl. The only thing that even might cheer her up was leaving this place, but the logical voice in her head said that even out there she wouldn’t be happy. She slowly moved her right hand under the left sleeve of her sweater, pressing into one of the freshest cuts with her fingers. It wasn’t exactly new, it was over a week old, but it still hadn’t completely healed. When the boy asked her if she needed any help she nodded, smiling. “Uh yeah, I guess so. I wanted to find something to do, something interesting and not all boring like this place seems to be.”
The girl’s gesture definitely didn’t go unnoticed by Nathan, who instantly averted his gaze as soon as he realised that the other’s arm was scarred. Definitely this would not be the most shocking thing he would see in a place like Serenity, neither would he ever think about judging others, but this boy was never able to understand the reason why some people purposely harmed themselves. He already had enough problems to care about, and this girl clearly did too, so why did she go causing more pain to herself? Smiling at the girl in a friendly way, Nathan took a step towards her before replying; “Well, that’s subjective. What might be boring for you, may be interesting for another person.”
aspensaspirin:
Aspen tried to not think much of the subsequent silence. After all she did say she wasn’t going to bother the other person and if he wanted to be silent then she wasn’t going to push it. She was just happy he let her sit there. Aspen sighed, flustered at herself for having opened her mouth to say such a thing more than anything else. “Not me, don’t worry. The girls over there,” she tossed her head over her shoulder to a group of girls down the dining hall, “only 3 at the table but they said there was no room,” only reason there wouldn’t be any room is if their egos were taking up the other seats, at least that’s what aspen thought in her head. It didn’t bode well for her ‘be more social’ requirement. “I shouldn’t have said anything though, that was a rather rude comment, sorry,” she said quietly, correcting herself. The blonde looked back at the boy, embarrassed for herself. “I’m Aspen,” she tried though there was no telling how the other boy would react to her statements.
Furrowing his brows as the girl he had just met opened up about what the way these people had treated her, Nathan could not help but shoot them sharp looks. Due to him being a very introverted and shy person all his life, this boy had been stepped on too many times in his life, leading him to absolutely despise any events of disapproval that came from others, let alone unreasonably. “It’s okay, I’m sure they were boring anyway.” He responded with a chuckle as his eyes trailed back to the blonde’s, an encouraging smile on his lips while he tried to cheer her up once again. The fact that he could never have a specific kind of interest towards this girl, of course did not mean that he did not feel like being friendly towards her. “That’s a cool name. I am Nathan.” The brunette replied kindly as he pushed his trail closer to hers.
kenzie-webster-serenity:
Kenzie had been standing in a random hallway, not really sure what to do. She saw a guy walking over to her, and snickered softly at what he said. “Yeah I’m sure they could. And while they’re at it maybe they could, I don’t know save the great barrier reef or something.” She rolled her eyes at the boy. “Not saying it’s impossible, just… highly unlikely.”
Nathan’s face fell as he realised that his attempt at cheering up the other girl had no effect whatsover and he forced a smile before lowering his head to awkwardly stare at the floor for a few seconds. What was he supposed to do now, apologize? No one liked being shown pity for physical conditions that they had never chosen, so this would only make things worse. So would speechlessly walking away from her. So taking a deep breath, Nathan decided to go with the first suggestion that came to his mind, hoping that he would not fuck things up more; “You, um...you seem lost. Do you need any help finding your way around?”
