“I would probably be lost somewhere in Colorado right now,” she joked. “Oh yeah, it definitely is. Back home we hardly ever went to the beach because, well, there’s not exactly one close. But now it’s everywhere. It’s pretty great. What about you? Are you from here?”
Nathaniel chuckled before nodding as she spoke, "I see. But the beach is wonderful so I guess that's a good thing. I'm from Vancouver, Canada and the beach here beats the ones there, that's for sure."
phoebemargo:
“Sounds like this is your second home.” She noted aloud with a smile. “And don’t mention leaving all responsibility back home. I’ll be a waitress over that any day.”
"Just about. But I don't think I would've stayed this long if it weren't for some of the people here," he nodded. "Hey, at least that means you're bound to have a blast here."
chloefml:
“No, we used Siri for most of the trip, so, even though it was long and boring, we didn’t get lost, which was nice. But you’re right about the cornfields. Once you’ve seen one, you’ve seen them all,” she told him with a small laugh. “Okay, good. I’d hate to have come all this way and then it suck.”
"Man, what would we do without Siri?" he replied with a chuckle. "I guess it's a pretty big scenery change for you then?"
derek-kelly:
“Hey, well you’re officially welcome to the back anytime you’d like! Either to learn or to eat out the entire kitchen,” he chuckled. “Piano? Shit, you must be really good, man. How long’ve you been playing?”
"I might have to take up that offer actually -- the eating part. Trust me, you don't want me to even try to use a stove," he replied with a laugh. "Since I was about four or five. If you ever want to take up lessons or something, let me know."
phoebemargo:
“How long have you been here?” She asked, “I guess it beats being at home, right?”
"Since about January," he recalled after a few seconds. "I guess. I mean, Hawaii is paradise -- we can drink juice out of fruits and we live on a beach. If that's not wonderful, I don't know what is."
derek-kelly:
“Oh man, deal,” he laughed, unsure what had him having so much fun. Perhaps it was because he hadn’t had an opportunity to in such a long, long time. “Yeah? I’m chef here, I tend to stick in the back room. What are you doing here?”
Nathaniel chuckled, glad that the two of them were getting along so quickly. "Man, I'm jealous of you. I'm terrible in the kitchen," he replied. "I play the piano in the lobby."
chloefml:
“It certainly was. But getting here was worth the hours and hours and driving through cornfields. And thanks. It’s pretty great, so far.”
"Oh, that sounds like a bit of a hassle. I hope you guys didn't get lost. I imagine that all the rows in the cornfields look the same," he rambled before giving her an assuring smile. "I'm sure it'll stay great. People here are pretty nice, for the most part."
kevintakahashi:
“I do. I’ve been playing since I was a kid, actually,” he said, smiling. “But now I don’t play as often as I used to, unfortunately.”
"Are you really good at it?" he asked curiously, delighted to have found another pianist here. "I actually hauled my keyboard from Canada here so if you ever want to jam out on it, let me know."
kevintakahashi:
“I’m Kevin. Glad to finally meet you,” he said as he extended out his hand, offering a handshake. “I must admit that you’re actually really good at playing the piano. No wonder why they call you the virtuoso around here.”
"It's nice to meet you Kevin," he replied, giving the other boy a firm handshake. "I'm glad that you think so. I guess years of piano practice did it's job. Do you play?"
derek-kelly:
“Do not be embarrassed man, seriously. You’re dancing’s incredible, show it off!” Derek encouraged, continuing to up the moves as he started dancing with the other guy. “Derek. Pleasure, Nathaniel. I’m glad you join me.”
"We're never speaking of this again though, deal?" he chuckled, dancing to the beat. "Nice to meet you Derek. I've seen you around here before, what do you do?"
chloefml:
Better to look at the good side of things rather than the bad. And it’s nice to meet you, too. I am. My sister and I just moved here from Kansas.
That's true. Oh that must've been a bit of a trip over here. But welcome to Hawaii.
phoebemargo:
“Homesick?” Raising an eyebrow before nodding, “Yeah, I’m a waitress sadly.”
"Basically. I've been here way too long to be still homesick so often... or maybe that's why," he rambled with a nervous laugh afterwards. "Oh, it can't be that bad, right?"
kevintakahashi:
“I suppose you’re right,” he said, smiling sheepishly. “Hey, you’re the lobby pianist, right?”
"Yeah," he replied before thinking for a bit. "I know you're a front receptionist, but I don't think I ever learned your name. I'm Nathaniel."
kevintakahashi:
“I swear, some of the things that I come across at the gift shop are quite…interesting.”
"You can say that again, but the gift shop probably makes good money off things like that regardless."
chloefml:
Well, they’re not exactly giraffe legs like yours, but whatever you say. Don’t worry about it. I’m still in one piece, so we’re good. I’m Chloe, by the way.
At least you're being optimistic about this. It's nice to meet you Chloe, I'm Nathaniel. Are you new? I don't think I've seen you around before.
chloefml:
I guess between your giraffe legs and my short, stumpy ones, I never stood a chance at staying upright.
Oh c'mon, your legs aren't stumpy. But I'm sorry again, I feel pretty bad that this even happened.
