BIOGRAPHY
TRIGGER WARNING: none
Nathaniel grew up in a loving home, with doting parents and older brothers who’s teasing always came from a place of irritated fondness. That was to be expected, with him being the youngest of the Wolfsong bunch. He was a rowdy little kid with an overactive imagination and insatiable curiosity. He was always getting himself in trouble around the house and asking his brothers a million questions about their work in the funeral home. He also had a million questions about the condition that afflicted the family, how it worked, and why it was controlled by the phases of the moon. His family could not provide him a satisfactory answer, and this ignited in him an interest in space exploration. He would become an astronaut, get to the moon, and find out himself.
His family indulged him, as they always did, thinking he would soon move on to other interests. The more he read about space though, the more his interest grew. Soon he was annoying his brothers with facts about space, turning every conversation to the subject. This went on until his oldest brother snapped one day and told him plainly that he would never be an astronaut. Werewolves could not be astronauts. Nathaniel was crushed.
He withdrew into himself following the incident. He was a lot quieter, and rarely spoke on the subject. His interest never waned though, and secretly he held on to hope. Genetics were weird. Just because all of his brothers had shifted didn’t mean he would too. Maybe he didn’t carry the gene. Maybe it would never express itself. Nathaniel waited anxiously for the day, and when his 13th and 14th birthday passed without incident, he thought he’d dodged the curse. He was not so lucky. His first transformation was both traumatic and uneventful. His family was with him every step of the way, but the event also marked the end of his dream.
Nathaniel is over it now. He never left the family home, never left Raven’s Peak, and has no plans of ever doing so. He is uninspired, doing the bare minimum required of him. He did go to University, as was his mother’s wish. Business Administration, so he could one day help run things at the funeral home. He never looked for work elsewhere, taking on the role of transport manager for the family business. It felt appropriate somehow, for him to end up driving the deceased around. He also assists in sales and during services if necessary, though his brothers prefer that he doesn’t. Instead, he spends a lot of his time locked up in his room gaming, or secretly working on his sci-fi novel. In it, the protagonist embarks upon a journey to defeat the moon, and unlike Nathaniel, he wins.
