My good friend and former bandmate headsupnick is looking for a new band. Preferably vocals, maybe drums. He was the drummer and occasional vocalist for Native Wildlife so he’s proven himself with heavy stuff, but he’s into all kinds of music. Plus he’s reliable, dedicated, humble, and relaxed which makes for an ideal bandmate. Hit him up.

Native Wildlife are currently on tour with Touche Amore. This beautiful music video opens to reveal the band in a dimly-lit, tranquil practice space, somewhere in the West. Guitars create a nocturnal soundcape to accompany the endless rows of quietly dark houses, functional neon lights at road intersections which become ornamental in the hours that no-one is driving. The melancholic peace directly before the moment when the storm unleashes the crash of the wave. The flood comes in the form of noisey, crashing hardcore guitars. Barking vocals and dissonance. This is ruthlessly modern music, without any time for nostalgia.

Man, I wish we could have toured with Touché! That was just one show :) Thank you for the kind words though! I think "ruthlessly modern" is an interesting descriptor.

Here’s our cover of “A Monster, A Tempest” originally by Native Wildlife. We met these guys several years ago and were instantly taken with them both as musicians and human beings. We had an idea to do a split with them not too long after meeting them, and thought to cover one of their songs. Even though that split didn’t end up happening I’m still happy with this cover.

Native Wildlife went on to release some profoundly honest music and we’re really sad to see them go. If you’re free their last show is in Somerville, Massachusetts on Sunday May Fifth at Cuisine en Locale, you can find some more information on that show here:
