The super impressive sci-fi themed 3d creations of VictoryLuode - https://www.this-is-cool.co.uk/the-impressive-3d-sci-fi-creations-of-victoryluode/
Friday night and the old gothic ships are out of the box for a surprise mission - the Imperium demolished the Chaos pirates this time....
Long time off posting but I’ve kicked the year off with a new project to try and clear the cobwebs - 1/35 Churchill & panzer 4 diorama, current wip shot.
After a long long long break from modelling practically anything I had a bank holiday blitz on necromunda related minis - a biker gang converted off ramshackle games bike minis and a robot walker who’s going to make a fine hazard of the waste! All need some green stuff to finish yet before paint. Hopefully I’ll have another chance to do more soon!
So necromunda has taken over the painting desk just before my copy of cruel seas turns up! Motivation to get the gangs painted up I suppose :D
So first post in ages, due to life etc. Spent the new year period getting fired up for the cruel seas from warlord games, played a few games with Pash and it was awesome! It really does give that dog fighting in boats feel that the small boats need. Also seems to have launched a lively community of 3D printers so I’ve dived into that till I can get my hands on a copy of the boxed game! (The s-boats were off the cover of a Wargames Illustrated - models on the cover was nostalgic!)
I’ve still not planned a project for this printer, but the buildings print so well that I’ve been churning out a fair few now.....
And with a super quick spray and some dots of blue on the windows they look table ready!
Every. Damn. Time.
Right, after a couple of weeks of ownership I think we’ve managed to get some idea of what works well and what doesn’t on this cheap 3D printer kit - next up is seeing how these things take paint and then planning some sort of projects for it..... though I may print a few more mechs too just cause I’ve always wanted to do mechcommander on the table top and didn’t like the official battletech sculpts!
Photo from a few years back that’s floated up on my fb feed. My guard army, built in the days before stompers and knights were common (the plastic super heavy kits and valkyries were out by this point). Still not much more painting gone on it since then......
Base coats on the infantry uniforms going on….. khaki feels a bit bright at this point but it’ll darken down hopefully….

The simplest smoke markers I could think of. Cotton wool balls pva’d onto 2p’s and hit with a light spray of the Matt black undercoat when I was spraying the infantry squads up. They look like they’ll do for the playtesting use I needed…..

Well with work and home being a bit on the busy side I’ve not been posting much! I’ve made a start on the marder 3’s during dinner breaks (so slow progress...) and been thinking a lot about my ships - enough I managed to convince my 6 year old to assist in play testing (the playing isn’t quite to the rules but he had fun at least...). I’m thinking my next steps with the ships will be some smaller British destroyers - not being very familiar with them when I bought my first sets I managed to pick some of the most powerful British destroyers of ww2 when I was thinking I would be buying the ‘typical tin can’ of the war. Then I think it’ll have to be Italians! I’ve watched a few documentaries and read up on the Mediterranean campaign and it looks like there was a lot of action that could be used as inspiration for games!
A few photo’s of the weekends bolt action game, an advance on the lonely bunker. The British didn’t manage a spectacular brake-through, being stalled by German re-enforcements who themselves were then mostly driven off by artillery support. Given me a nudge to paint some more bits up soon!
Tutorial! Post-apocalyptic roads!
Ahoy hoy! I’ve been doing some cool terrain with a post apocalypse theme recently and realised I need some cool roads to go with the buildings I’ve bought from TTCombat - I have seen that folks have made roads from cork floor tiles and they look awesome, but unfortunately I haven’t found any good tutorials for making them myself. So I decided it’s time to make a tutorial! Here’s Part 1: Construction!
Ingredients you will need:
* cork floor tiles (I got mine from Wickes nine 12" x 12" tiles for £9.99)
* steel ruler
* sharp hobby knife
* pencil
You start with the tiles as they are. The ones I have are rough cork on one side and the other is smooth and treated with some sort of varnish. I will be using the rough surface for the top, as when painted it has a cool asphalt-ey texture.
I decided my basic roads would be straight pieces 12" long and 4" wide. There will be some other shapes (shorter straights, curves, T-junctions etc too). So I cut a few tiles into pieces of 12 x 4 inches:
So that’s a good three foot of road right there, but it’s looking a bit clean and tidy for me. So next, add a bit of a chamfer onto the long edges…
And then it’s time to tear into the cork and add some damage! Avoid damaging the short edges as it’ll look weird having a damaged bit butted up against an undamaged bit when you lay the road out. Just tear a few chunks from the long edges:
This looks good but a bit of extra work is worth it! Just chop into the torn bits with your hobby knife, add a bit of a chamfer to them and just try to make them look as uneven as possible!
And hey presto, some nice damage where the road surface has crumbled away!
The last step in part 1 is to give them a decent primer coat of black. I use Halfords matt black and give the road sections a couple of things coats, waiting for it to dry properly between coats. Make sure you get into all the damaged bits!
Here’s a few examples of the roads I’ve made so far! The pot-holes in the middle of the roads were done by cutting a hole with the hobby knife and then tearing around it. Plus here are some smaller road pieces with very heavy damage at the end, which I’ll mostly be using as ‘dead-ends.’
These are all ready for painting, which I’ll be showing in my next post.
Hope you all like the roads, and found this post helpful! 🙂
