honestly it really worries me just how much faith, trust and blind loyalty people have towards famous celebs that they don't even know. and look i get it... i grew up on tumblr fandoms as well. i've been here since i was a tiny teen who knew absolutely nothing about the world and my blog has reflected all of my celebrity hyperfixations for the past decade. so i get this. and i'm not saying there's anything wrong with fandoms or even liking celebrities once you reach adulthood. fandom is a great place to bond over our favourite stuff, that's great. it's the blind faith part towards celebs that gets me. i get that as humans, we like having something or someone to believe in. but it becomes a problem when you start believing in a celebrity so much that you start excusing their behaviours and problematic actions. like you do not know this person. they are not your close friend. they are not your family. they are a stranger whose persona or work you like. no need to send death threats to other people to defend this famous person, y'know? why not take all this blind faith and put it in yourself instead? why not love yourself as much as you love this stranger? that way, maybe, your sense of self isn't threatened because someone decided to criticize your fave celeb? just some food for thought.

And speaking of Sophia Tolstoy, her diaries are just so depressing.

She wrote this when she was 19, one year into her marriage to Leo and as she was pregnant with the first of his 13 children.

A few years later, when she was 25 or so:

“I am so often alone with my thoughts that the need to write in my diary comes quite naturally … Now I am well again and not pregnant—it terrifies me how often I have been in that condition. He said that for him being young meant “I can achieve anything”. For me […] reason tells me that there is nothing I either want or can do beyond nursing, eating, drinking, sleeping, and loving and caring for my husband and babies, all of which I know is happiness of a kind, but why do I feel so woeful all the time, and weep as I did yesterday? I am writing this now with the pleasantly exciting sense that nobody will ever read it, so I can be quite frank with myself […].“

During her 12th pregnancy she wrote about taking scalding baths and jumping from high pieces of furniture to try and miscarry.  And at one point while reading her husband’s diary (which he told her to read) she found the sentence “There is no such thing as love, only the physical need for intercourse and the practical need for a life companion.” In her own diary she wrote “They ebb and flow like waves, these times when I realise how lonely I am and want only to cry…”

A few years before her husband’s death, she published a cycle of prose poems titled “Groans”, under the pseudonym “A Tired Woman”.

i HATE self-censorship for a lot of reasons, but being in crisis work makes it even more frustrating. who are you censoring for? like i am being so fr, WHO are you censoring for? have you even thought it through? people who have been raped know that they have been raped. if someone attempts suicide or is grieving someone who did, saying "sewer slide" isn't going to protect them from any of the feelings. a murder victim's family isn't going to feel better bc you said "unalived" instead of murdered. if anything, it's just extremely invalidating and othering. it's saying "what happened to you is so bad that i won't even say the word," which is NOT trauma-informed care. you are not protecting survivors/victims when you self-censor. the ONLY things you protect when you self-censor are the puritanical ideologies that are being encouraged by rich fascists who want your money and obedience

To start out I’m going to say that literally anyone in the trans community can be guilty of this: when you see your personal dysphoria overriding your actual morals and political positions you need to step back, breathe, and reevaluate. Your discomfort does not mean you’re unsafe or that you have the right to lash out at the people around you.

If you believe you are experiencing “secondhand dysphoria” because you personally would be embarrassed to look the way someone else looks or to act the way someone else acts you just need to leave the room. Telling someone that you would be miserable if you were them is flat out hateful and it doesn’t matter what feelings you’re going through, it’s unacceptable to talk to other human beings that way.

If you see a depiction of a uterus or vulva and your first reaction is revulsion and anger you need to keep that to yourself and work through those feelings mentally or in private with someone you trust. Dysphoria over having or not having these organs is difficult but falling into the misogynistic hatred of the bodies of around 50 percent of the population isn’t productive. Again, bigotry doesn’t become ok just because you’re having big feelings.

If you find yourself being resentful of other people, cis or trans, for being gender nonconforming that is something you need to figure out. You can try to come up with a million reasons why you’re right and everyone else is an evil fake trans bigot or you can just accept that your experience of the world is nowhere near universal and actually practice acceptance.
