He looks up from his place, looking for his pair. The girl is sat right next to him, and it quite of takes him by surprise how her hair shines, or maybe heâs still slightly drunk from last night. She has pale skin, pretty eyes and rosy lips â all of her features matching in a completely pleasant combination. In some way, she kind of reminds Taehyun of a bunny. A really cute bunny.
What the fuck is he even thinking about?
âSo,â he starts, standing up and walking towards her, âare you familiar with our theme at all?â
the amount of endearing affection she had for political science class was outstanding. who else would tell all their friends that they were in a committed relationship with a six hundred and thirty two paged political theory textbook?
"we spend a lot of quality time together and sometimes even stay up all night with each other!"
but, half of the love she had reserved exclusively for the class was thrown out the nearest window as soon as the phrase "group project" left her teacher's lips. nayeon's groans were indistinguishable among her peers'. the disappointed third year was not in the mood to engage in another fruitless assignment only to end up doing the majority, if not all of the work. she called them freeriders, leachers, and moochers. people who like parasites, only thrived by sucking up the blood, sweat, and tears of others.
the girl showed no enthusiasm as the teacher called out the pairings. as her bad habit ensued, she tuned the unwanted news out. slowly the teacher's boring droning became as monochromatic as nayeon's sour mood. reality slapped her in the face a bit too soon when her name was announced along with "kim taehyun" and "the popularity of populism in south america".
lips pursed in a tight thin line, her eyes wandered the room in search of a specific face. although they've sat next to each other all year, nayeon vaguely remembers any kind of interactions the two shared aside from the casual lending of pencils on days where either party forgets and is desperate for a writing utensil. nonetheless, the optimistic side of her hoped with all her heart that this would be different. their topic was an interesting subject and from observations made throughout the year, taehyun did not appear to be another one of those distasteful slackers. afterall, a baek ho girl and a cheong ryong boy was sure to be an academic power couple.
judging from the way he posed his question, the student walking towards her did not seem to be much excited about the project either. at least they were in the same boat. truthfully, nayeon was well informed on their topic. the effects of pulling all nighters watching reruns of bbc and cnn specials were more relevant than one would think.
"i'm slightly familiar with it," she replied cautiously, not wanting to come off as a nerdy know-it-all. phase one was to act as if she knew little to nothing in order for phase two to be successful: see what exactly the mysterious kim taehyun was all about.
