⌠ SIMAY BARLAS, 19, CISFEMALE, SHE/HER ⌡welcome back to gallagher academy, NAZ FARHI ! according to their records, they’re a FIRST year, specializing in THREAT ELIMINATION + “MACGYVER” SURVIVAL SKILLS & NAVIGATION; and they DID go to a spy prep high school. when i see them walking around in the halls, i usually see a flash of (impatient footsteps, an assortment of thick wooden hair barrettes & a fuchsia ysl crossbody bag). when it’s the (pisces)’s birthday on 02/21/2000, they always request their BAKLAVA from the school’s chefs. looks like they’re well on their way to graduation.

frankly i’ve actively forgotten to write this every day since i took naz but let’s not worry about THAT

so! naz’s parents are both turkish diplomats! no i will not be taking any further questions

j...k i lifted their careers from real people and what about it. her father is an ambassador, specifically he’s the director general of policy planning at the ministry of foreign affairs of turkey on top of doing a bunch of other things such as: teaching at universities around the world, writing books, facetiming naz every weekend to make sure she’s alive

her mother is the turkish representative to unesco (which ig is good because the real one resigned a few years ago for reasons i can’t begin to get into but naz’s mother took over recently after trying to clean up the conflict that led to the previous rep’s resignation) but primarily she’s a playwright and novelist, very well known in turkey, and she’s also the cultural attaché to paris bc mmm...i say so! anyways she’s very busy but manages to be lowkey overbearing and frankly that’s FINE with naz

although naz was born in turkey, she grew up in lots of different countries, and visited the united states for the first time at the age of eight. her only takeaway was that the og disneyland was better than the one in paris

eventually, she applied to a bunch of spy prep schools around the world and her parents said she could go to any of the ones she got into so she chose one in the states for no reason other than the fact that at least she already knew english well and she already had her sights set on some of the american colleges (u kno gallagher was at the top of the list)

her parents aren’t spies (far as she knows lol) (they’re not) (probably) but they are in politics and they get the whole spy thing as much as any semi-normal parents could. it was their idea to send her off to boarding school to begin with but they didn’t care one way or the other if she decided to stick with it

but as it turned out, naz really enjoyed prep school. she likes the life she’s had growing up, even if her parents are always busy and her siblings have been scattered around the globe since basically forever. so the idea of leading a similar life as a spy has never been too daunting or scary, she’s kind of excited about how unpredictable her future is always going to be

because she’s never been a girl who had the chance to settle into one place and it’s the settling that seems more overwhelming than knowing she’ll always be on the move

“i’d rather keep the yarn as well, actually, but if you desperately need a toy for your cat, i have an entire bag of yarn.” luna doesn’t think she’ll ever feel completely comfortable around weapons while she’s here, but she at least feels like she’s not actually being threatened. “do you have a favorite color?”

“gifts are always better when you steal them,” she states, as if this is a common idiom, before sighing. instead of handing the yarn to luna, she crouches down and rolls it back towards her. “i don’t know, red? or purple. but not together.”

        “ BE HONEST —  are enzo’s roommates better than we had been last year ? ”   jo asks, before taking a bite of her salad.  she has a feeling she knows the answer to this question, but jo feels the need to ask for peace of mind.  nothing against leila, but jo’s definitely missing their old dorm, especially having a free bed for the last half of the second semester.   “ how’s he doing, by the way ?   i feel like i never see him around anymore. ”   not that she’s looking very hard.     @nazfarhi

“be honest?” she repeats, cocking her head to the side. “that is not what i pay zero whole dollars to learn here, josephine.” naz takes a loud slurp of her chocolate milk through her straw before continuing. “maybe the same. one is so boring i don’t remember her name, one is a white man and one is pretty cool. so you don’t have a lot of competition.” naz has to laugh at the comment, making sure milk doesn’t come out of her nose. “would you have ever seen him last year if you didn’t share a room? he’s fine. but i’m thinking about hiding his tablet during bootcamp.”

– “HELP!” AYLIN CRIES OUT, dropping the laundry basket onto enzo’s bed beside where naz is sitting. “ i was trying to be helpful by doing some of julian’s laundry and… ” she holds up one of his uniform shirts that is considerably smaller than it was when she put it in – aylin would probably fit in it now. “ it’s all shrunk ! ” 

“shrink it more so i can give it to figaro,” she comments before eating another sour gummy worm. “and just buy new shirts.”

“i  just  didn’t  think  much  of  gallagher’s  student  population  cared  about  roseville,”  —  aside  from  the  the  ones  who  get  to  leave,  which  won’t  be  them  for  a  few  years.  enzo  is  fine  with  that.  “i  was  planning  on  it  -  that’s  not  weird,  is  it?  getting  pets  gifts  for  christmas?”

“it’s different from campus so people hype it up. that’s what happens when you’re trapped inside your school for months, it makes you go insane.” naz thinks she’s remarkably well-adjusted, considering. “no! he deserves presents! but if you wanted to get me something, too, i’ll look in the other direction.” hint hint, so sorry. “speaking of which...” she grabs his hand and subtly pulls him closer, adopting her most innocent tone of voice. “is there anything specific you wanted for christmas?”

          “ SO, UM, HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN DOING YOGA FOR ? ”   he’s been wanting to try yoga for a few months now, so when ting had invited him to join her and a few others to try yoga with them, he was quick to agree. while he had successfully not embarrassed himself while doing it, he still feels a little shy around the others. but hey, he does know enzo, so naz must be nice too !    @nazfarhi

“i don’t do yoga,” she answers blankly. hopefully one day bash will learn never to ask naz a direct question. “blair does yoga and i’m also here.” they have matching yoga mats which is cute for them but naz will never act like she actually enjoys it, because that’s not really something she does. it always makes her sleepy, especially child’s pose.

      “  𝚘𝚑  𝚏𝚒𝚗𝚎  .  i’ll  save  it  for  when  you’re  not  here  to  do  that  ,  ”  they  tease  .  although  ,  blair  is  serious  about  attempting  to  play  the  entire  nutcracker  suite  through  gallagher’s  PA  system  .  “  i  think  tchaikovsky  is  a  composer  for  the  romantic  era  not  classical  .  but  as  another  gen  zer  i  have  to  say  that  dance  of  the  sugar  plum  fairy  goes  hard  .  ”

“it’s really the least you can do.” which is her way of saying thank you, a phrase that will only leave her mouth if it’s said sarcastically. “there’s a difference between the specific period and the broad usage of the term, because...words change meaning over time.” usually in ways that annoy her but whatever, english ain’t her language, anyways. “my personal belief is that you actually don’t have to say that.”

“Naz.” she says only her name to get her friend’s attention. “I’m doing a research study.” she grins, “And I really value your opinion ‘cause you tell it like it is. So be real with me, who’s winning in a fight, that dude who doesn’t go anywhere without his dog or Thalia Hall?” She’s talking about Maddox…she thinks. @nazfarhi

“What class is this for?” She asks idly, immediately after taking a giant bite out of an apple. Yes it’s an extra crunchy one! “Oh my god, thank you so much...Normally I’d say Thalia but I heard she choked in class the other day so maybe Maddox could take her now. Or his dog.” I have replied to a Maddox/Scooby starter with Naz before so she knows things.

Wilder’s hype deflates at Naz’s comment, his cheeks fill with air and blow out seconds later. “Think it was pretty alright.” he counters, but he’s not really fighting. He goes to defend himself, but instead he shrugs and nods, hand in his hair. “Yeah, I was pretty fucking bad.” She’s not wrong! “Yes, and no. Actually I don’t know? I figure someone tech-y here can make a really cool one, something personal and not some cheap amazon knockoff ya know? Like, I’m talking hunting real ghosts.” 

“Have you considered thinking again?” She offers as a helpful suggestion, this is constructive criticism and she’s very good at it. “Well, it was your first time, right? So of course you wiped out. The beach isn’t that far from here so you can practice more when you’re a fourth year.” If that’s how he wants to spend his free time. “It’d probably help if you actually knew what it was first. And I’d offer my boyfriend but I think he’s afraid of ghosts.” Just feels right.

luna’s starting to notice a trend, and wishes she would stop dropping things, because then she has to get into these situations, where she’s both unsure if the other person is serious, and how to get her stuff back without any confrontation. “well, it’s already attached to a sweater, so do you want that too?” she asks, pointing to the sweater she’s working on.

“no, i’d cut the yarn off. you can keep your sweater.” naz produces a switchblade from her blazer pocket because yeah. she unsheathes the blade but i don’t think that is the proper use of that verb in this context. she switches the blade out. like a switchblade. “it’s for my cat.”

It was getting ridiculous, but Julian maintains composure. “Maybe he doesn’t like this brand of food, given eating is pretty instinctive.” Though he’s never seen the cat not eat its food. He gives her a smile at her following comment. He knows it’s all sarcastic. “Thank you for your concern, Naz. I’ll be careful.”

“You’ve never had a pet cat before, have you?” They do what they want when they want, or they don’t do what you want them to do just because you want them to do it...yeah. “I’m not concerned. I just decided to be nice and offer you ample warning.” That she’s trying to push him off a roof.

Just because she was nervous and a lost for words, didn’t mean that she didn’t agree with Naz. It was weird that Blackthorne required their fourth years to… murder someone for them to graduate. “I always wondered–” Sunny let out after a few seconds, finally finding her grounding. “– about the people that they murder, you know? If it’s ever just someone who they had a disagreement with or if it was someone who… deserved it.” A beat as she shook her head. “Of course you wouldn’t know that! None of us would if I think about it.” Not even the recent fourth years would. 

“I’d say it was probably a 50/50 split. We should have asked the alumni last semester.” It wasn’t even a joke because Naz thought most of them would have been candid about it. If she was a legacy, she’d ask someone in her family out of curiosity. “I think a lot of people who grow up in the spy world have straight up enemies who should kick the bucket, but the people who grew up like normal probably didn’t even have someone in mind.” Naz went to prep school, but she didn’t have an elicit or spicy life history.

– “I GUESS I NEVER REALLY…put that much thought into it, it’s just what you do, i suppose. to say goodbye. but if you happen to pass away, i’ll be sure to admire your selfies instead, ” anya adds, because she highly doubts that her family would change tradition because anya told them naz said they should display selfies. then again, her family isn’t doing much of anything these days. “ well, yes, but…i don’t have that many homicidal thoughts either, i think. ” 

“how is saying goodbye to a corpse gonna make anyone feel better? it’s too late, they’re dead.” it’s easy for naz to be cavalier about the subject considering she’s never lost a loved one, at least not one she was close to. “thank you, i’ll even make it my dying wish.” because then people have to do it. “weird flex but if you say so.”

          WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS BITCH’S PROBLEM ?   it’s times like this that cecilia truly hates having to play nice. otherwise she’d be doing a lot more than forcing a smile, though there’s nothing sweet in the way she kicks the door so it doesn’t shut. cecilia’s pretty sure she’s never seen this chick before in her life – she definitely hasn’t been around the two times she’s been over, so.   “ is anya home ? ”   as if she was actually here for her sister.

“i already said nobody you want to see is here.” as if naz even believes cecilia gives a fuck about her sister -- which is why she wants to fight! “though from what i can tell, you and anya aren’t exactly best friends so color me confused. i suggest texting her with your inquiries. unless you don’t even have her number?”

“how’d   you   hear   about   that?”   this   is   the   first   time   he’s   hearing   about   a   bakery,   but   then   again,   naz   seemingly   knew   more   about   things   outside   of   his   beloved   tablet.   “to   the   pet   store,   maybe?   want   to   give   figaro   some   new   toys.”

“using my ears?” false, she read about it online. she doesn’t follow local businesses on instagram because it’s lame but she does keep track of them, for rare occasions like this. “good idea! he deserves it. are you gonna save some for christmas?”

“oh, i’m so sorry,” luna says as she cringes, realizing she’s dropping her ball of yarn too late to catch it, and watching a bit helplessly as it drops, rolls away, unraveling and landing at the feet of the person sitting across the common room from her. “let me get that, i’m so sorry.” @gallagherstart

naz ignores her and stoops down to grab the yarn, tossing it back and forth in her hands as the loose string on the ground collects dirt. “haven’t you ever heard of finders keepers? it’s my yarn now.”

“Felt like riding a tiger, man!” He can’t relate. “I went like this,” he motions, putting his arms out wide, “and then I went like this!” He bends his knees a little, and begins to wobble back and forth to emulate the motions of the waves. “And then, SPLASH!” he jumps forward, closer to the person listening, before laughing. “Knocked right off!” his grin is joyous as he describes surfing for the first time in San Diego over the long weekend. “Anyway, you got any clue how to make a Ghost Box?” @gallagherstart

“That story was very bad,” she says once he’s done, having patiently waited for him to finish before commenting. “And it sounds like you suck at surfing.” Naz has never surfed, nor will she ever! It looks embarrassing. “Isn't it literally a radio? Why don’t you just buy one online?”
